The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

For me, it's the richness of mods that make it so replayable. If you come back a year later there are additional mods that modify/improve gameplay, crafting, add characters, quests, areas, etc. I've particularly enjoyed the mods that change combat/magic.

Spot on, there's always a handful of diamonds every year or so. In fact, I just saw where the initial release of The People of Skyrim 2 just landed. Looks like its angling to be more compatible, with other mods, than the prior incarnation was.

Truly staggery. There have been a lot of mods that add a touch of the Skyrim civil war here and there, but Nesbit's approach with v1 and v2 has been expansive. Battlefields, refugee camps, ruined farmsteads, patrols, naval battles (??), and things like expanding the docks and fishery areas of Solitude to paint it as an important\central food resource and trade (note that the mod isn't solely centered around the CW). More of an aim towards, what seems like, a Witcher3 level of believable backdrop to the setting at large.

I can't wait to see where v2 goes. Some of these mod projects have hundreds of hours in them. I can't image the ~navmesh work alone that goes into something like the above.

Wow. That looks like it has incredible potential to create a whole new exploration experience in the game. (Link for the interested: People of Skyrim 2)

I've had on my list to prep Skyrim for VR and do another play through. I wonder if that mod will work with VR. And I've also been aiming to drop 10 pounds, and I just stumbled onto this: How to Burn 1000+ Calories Playing Skyrim VR

This could be killing two birds with one stone!

If you lost just a bit more, you could kill one stone with one stone.

That's clever. And quick. Less than two minutes!

One stone would be ideal as far as weight goes, yes.

I think I make this a thing: Skyrim VR Lose a Stone

I really want to dive into Morrowind again. Are there any conversion mods that improve the fighting?

Maybe try a Morrowind thread.

I grinded and grinded until I could finally make 4 enchantments that gave be a stacked 25% destruction spell cost reduction EACH so I can now use unlimited destruction spells.

Who is the biggest bad I should see if can take on? (Level 46 mage btw)

Well, enemies scale with you, so maybe a dragon, or one of those death priest guys with the special masks.

The draugr deathlords or legendary dragons are pretty spongey, but they might not spawn til after level 50. The dragon priests can be tricky if I remember right.

Lydia has always annoyed me so much. I've never had the heart to kill her off and so I've put up with her lurking around (and creepily staring at my character while s/he sleeps) in Breezehome, and managed other more suitable options in a modded PC game, but for some reason on my current Switch game, this character (a female high elf mage type) has taken her on as a companion, and it makes sense. I'm not talking build-wise, but something about this particular character seems to fit with Lydia and her irritating (lack of) "personality".

My character just became a vampire as well through Dawnguard and I would love to turn Lydia into a vampire as well, but as this particular character isn't gay and only spouses can be turned (without mods), I guess Lydia will have to remain as she is. Thinking about Onmund as an eventual spouse for this character as there are no male high elf options available, so a less typical Skyrim Nord may have to do! Was thinking Marcurio, but I've heard he loses a lot of his sarcastic personality if you spouse him.

I may see if I can use Lydia later as a steward of Lakeview and that would keep me from tripping over her in Breezehome whenever I'm not using her as a companion. That house is just way too small for a live-in housecarl and I think is likely the primary source for my irritation with Lydia in earlier games.

(Except for the modded one. I used a couple follower mods and programmed her and Calder, the Wilhelm housecarl, to spend their day at the nearby inn rather than hanging around inside the house. They only go back to the house to sleep. This character is a Nord Stormcloack fighter-bard and so her main place of residence is the house in Windhelm and she is engaged to Faendal, who introduced her to thievery as well. One of these days, I need to get back to that game.)

Can anyone recommend a big mod that overhauls the game, making it a new experience for someone who has 600 hours in it so far?

Enderal: Forgotten Stories

You could try the official total conversion mod.

Nice.

I do play Enderal - I was more thinking of some of the big overhauls that are fun, but there are quite a few of them, and was looking for someone with experience in them!

Fallout I have played as well, quite a bit

So now that I'm in a location where I have some extra free time, I've decided to actually deep-dive Skyrim followed by Enderal. I have the Steam version of the Special Edition, but the mods available via Steam seem pretty sparse. I did download a comprehensive patch mod, and was hoping to find a mod that allowed me to play in 3440x1440 but no joy.

I decided to try the Nexus Mod Manager, and I downloaded the most recent version of SKSE and SkyUI. Unfortunately, the mod manager seems to get stuck with a message that says "moving" without ever actually registering the mods. Any thoughts?

Thus far, I'm following the classic pattern of intending to play Skyrim, then having that effort die on the vine as I try to mod the game into a satisfying playing condition on my modern (and very wide-screen) system.

The Nexus Legacy API was shut down two days ago.

I'd advise using Mod Organizer 2, which is the current standard. Plus it keeps all of the mods outside of your game directory, so you can try out multiple mod orders without much fuss.

And I assume that you're using SKSE 2.0.15 (for runtime 1.5.73).

Razgon you might have more luck browsing the mods thread, since you're not giving a lot of direction as to what you're looking for.

Thanks! I appreciate the recommendation for Mod Organizer 2, as it seems to work much better, and I was able to get SkyUI working without difficulty. I tried editing the Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini files in both the Documents area and in the Steam folders to get a 21:9 resolution but it doesn't appear to be working (or indeed is ignoring any modifications I make), which suggests that something else appears to be taking priority for resolution. I can live with not using the full 3440x1440 resolution of my main screen, but it would at least be nice to center it. Haha!

Even so, I'm fine with playing in a smaller window, and I'm mostly interested in the gameplay/AI mods vice killing myself trying to get everything pretty.

BethINI might help. Plus it's useful to get better optimized presets for performance.

Wait, isn't Vortex the way to go for a Skyrim mod manager now? Isn't that the next evolution of Mod Organizer 2 and Nexus Mod Manager?

Didn't we just talk about this? Am I going crazy?

Do all of these different mod managers work with *both* Oldrim and SE?

Vortex is the replacement for Nexus Mod Manager. Some people favor it. I'm personally in the camp that Mod Organizer 2 is better for how I approach modding Skyrim, but I don't have a lot of experience with Vortex so I'm not going to argue the point too much. Though the instanced folders in MO2 are, hands down, the best way to do modding for me: it doesn't touch your Skyrim install, instead keeping the mods in a sepasrate directory. Therefore, you'll never need to reinstall Skyrim and if you mess something up its much easier to fix.

Mod Manager 2 works with both LE and SSE, and I assume the others do as well.

Starbucks cup mod. Of course.

This is absolutely hilarious.

The garlic braids are also bright turquoise in the background.

Enderal: Forgotten Stories

This looks great. However, I believe I have a saved game from playing Skyrim with mods. Those mods may still be installed. Can I simply download Forgotten Stories or do I need to use Nexus Mod Manager to remove all the mods?

Also, does Forgotten Realms continue to use the original Skyrim music?

Thanks,
Chad

It's a stand alone mod now, so it's a completely separate install.

Great and looks like i install straight from Steam.
