Post a picture of your pet!

I'm thread-hogging, but never fear! I'm almost done. If I don't post these now, I'll never get around to doing it.

These are the "besties". Kaylee on the left curling up with Suki. Kaylee has forced herself onto Suki to be her best friend. Anytime Suki is in the bedroom napping, Kaylee has to lie down with her and be touching her. The other cats wouldn't put up with it, but Suki is an angel in a cat's body. She's the sweetest danged cat and allows Kaylee to be her bestie.

And now for the sad one. This is Violet, our 18+ yr old cat.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/ciposP7.jpg)

She was maybe 3 in this pic, lying in the grass in our backyard at the previous house. She's our "snake catcher". At the old house, our cats were indoor-outdoor cats. Violet would dig up garden snakes and bring them in to Kit. Kit would praise her, go to the screen door and wait for Violet, then toss the snake out in the yard. Violet would then take off and go fetch it, bring it back in the house via the cat doors in the garage, and they'd do it again until the snake gave up the ghost.

Violet would also bring birds in. Not to eat (like Misty, Misty would eat the damned things in our dining room), just to give to Kit. We got to watch her catch one, once. Violet was out front, lying in the grass patiently watching a mockingbird. The bird constantly yakked at her and flew near her and even landed kinda near her and tease, tease, tease. It finally dive-bombed her too close and Violet unwound like a spring and leapt straight up, grabbing the thing. I knew she could catch birds but seeing it in action was pretty cool. She went from zero to 60 in a couple milliseconds.

Violet got heavy, I think up to 16 lbs at one point. In the last 2 years, she's been steadily losing weight, and now she's down below 5 lbs. She has multiple health issues, and we know she isn't going to last with us for too much longer, so our goal is to make her time here the best possible for her. She's quite active and still plays with toys and chases the laser pointer. She mostly just sleeps and eats, though.

I don't have a recent pic, but here's one from 10 years ago, napping on the old couch with Kit.

I'm going to miss the hell out of her when she goes. It will be worse for Kit. She's had Violet's head on hers for almost 19 years every night when we go to bed.

Probably one of my cats on my account. Kaylee, most likely, the little rascal.

Adorable. I love the Then and Now contrast pics.

This is the best. Reminds me that I miss getting to see you at random GWJ meetups in Portland! So little time these days...

That's a sweet thing to say. I agree. We should have a Portland meetup sometime soon.

I enjoy seeing all these other black cats. Kit says that black cats have the lowest adoption rates. I'm not sure where she gets that stat from or the validity of it, but I could see it being true. I love the look of black cats, personally.

It's true. The shelter we got all 3 of our cats from usually runs a half price adoption event for black cats, around Halloween, to help them out.

I really want a black cat and have a name picked out if it's a girl. But my wife thinks we don't have room for another cat right now. I've been pushing for a year or so. Maybe she'll relent eventually.

Here's a recent one of Sammie, to add to the parade of black kitties:

Thanks for the info.

Snowflake?

We have 5 (plus the nephew's cat) and we always want more, but we know we can't/shouldn't. If we lived outside of town and our cats were inside/outside cats, I'd relent and eventually get 2 more when Violet passes.

I love black cats so much.

Me too

Here is spinoza, the first black kitty i had who passed a couple years ago:

More black kitty. Our cat Mochi hiding in some packing paper she wrecked, this is like the best toy we don't buy her.

She's been a real butt lately. The last 3 nights she's woken us up at 4, 5, and 6 am meowing at us. 100% normal behavior otherwise.

I love black cats too. In my purely anecdotal experience, they also seem to be smarter than average. My totally baseless theory is that superstitious humans have caused selective pressure for higher intelligence.

This is an odd coincidence. I was looking in Google Photos for a pic I took of Jewel Staite I took back in 2014 and saw something in there called "Collages" that I'd never noticed. It only had one pic in it that I guess Google made from a couple pics it deemed as related.

It's Violet in her normal sleeping position.

Great pic of Mochi. Sad news about Grumpy Cat.

Funny, I’ve always had a similar theory.

We’ve had two already (Opus and now Sydney) and in my experience they’re very sweet and affectionate. So I’ve often wondered if selective pressure chose black cats with better temperament.

My black cat is skittish as hell and only rarely affectionate and then only to my wife. When she was younger she was much more of a lap cat and craving attention but she seems to have grown out of it and completely changed without any kind of trauma or anything.

She'll walk up to you like she wants to rub your leg and get a pet, except she wont actually touch your leg (goes through the exact same motions though) and then deftly avoids your hand. She's an oddball.

We love her anyway.

Hahahah!

Lol

They Can Talk is an amazing webcomic. The author just released a book, too, Kindle and Real World. With about 40 new comics not published before.

I came across an old picture of my cat where, for three days, she only left my bed to eat. She realllly loved the new blankets.

Realized I never updated on our Maine Coon boy Hamilton since the initial pictures.

First off, here are some pictures of his first vet visit, where he pulled down on the top of his cardboard cat carrier and escaped while we were driving.

Finally, we eventually got Sydney and Hamilton integrated fairly smoothly. Here they are with Hamilton as a kitten and then later on.
