DC Catch-All [Spoiler Zone]

Finally got a chance to see Shazam and it was good. Formulaic, but still one of the better DC movies.
I'm not SUPER familiar with Shazam, I've read a few of the comics but he was always the lesser of the Captains Marvel for me. I was distracted throughout the movie by the implications of the character, though. You give hormonal teens/preteens that power set and the ability to avoid repurcussions by becoming anonymous at will and it's basically guaranteed that in a few years they will be a monsters. Ironically the only time this happened in the comics was when an adult (Black Adam) was given the powers.

Presumably that's where the "Wisdom of Solomon" is supposed to come in, yeah? Then again, you look into the implications of Superman and you often get Hyperion or the like.

Maybe it’s portrayed better in the earlier comics because the movie Shazam definitely isn’t wise and the current comics run is a literal extension of the movie, picking up with the same characters a year after the movie events end. Also they accidentally start a magical apocalypse because “hey look at this cool stuff.”

I wasn't really digging Doom Patrol but wow the last few episodes were fantastic.

I find the show keeps ramping up for me and with the introduction of Danny the Street I've just been grinning from ear to ear. Dare I hope for Flex Mentallo and how the show would rearrange him to fit into the tone they're going for?

Yea keep in mind when this was created. The average teen back then had a lot more to worry about and to temper them than today's.

yeah, today’s teens only have to worry about a world where society is quickly unraveling at the seams and an impending climate apocalypse casts doubt on whether they’ll even have a future.

Doom Patrol has been a lot of fun! I have not read any of the comics so this is all new to me. Jane is definitely a standout. She's been really great.

Beard Hunter! hilarious! So many other great moments on the show so far. Love it!

Doom Patrol is one of my favorite DC Comics properties and the show has done a really good job of adapting it. I was a bit hesitant at first about how quickly they’re plowing through the more popular parts of the source material rather than letting it breathe, but it’s still become the media consumption highlight of my week.

Their take on Beard Hunter was actually better than the comics, he was essentially just a straight parody of The Punisher but the show turned him into a much more interesting character. Hope we see more of him.

Really looking forward to seeing Flex Mentallo as well. I fully expect to see his “Hero of the Beach” aura at this point.

Watched Aquaman the other night. It was decent. We enjoyed it, but it was a bit disappointing given some of the hype we heard.

I really didn't like that movie, and I saw it before a lot of the hype. I can't even imagine.

Also, I was really disappointed by the trench scene. I heard so many people hype it up as being scary and such. And then I saw it and was so disappointed. I was so excited because I was like, "Holy crap, James Wan doing a scary scene in a superhero movie? I bet it is going to be out of this world." I'm a MASSIVE fan of The Conjuring 1 and 2, so my expectations were hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. And then it happened without any buildup and never really amounted to much. I was really hoping the movie was going to make a sharp ass turn from boisterous superhero movie into "WTF why does this movie have a terrifying horror scene in it?!"

Battinson.

Interesting they've gone from oldest Batman to youngest. Not a bad casting though, he's a decent actor.

I just hope - pray - that since he is so young they don't make this an origin story.

Dude’s in his 30’s, he’s older than Christian Bale was and only a few years younger than Michael Keaton was during his stint.

But he looks so young....I guess he ages well.

Saw him in High Life recently, and they did a good job of making him not look so young in that one. I imagine makeup and lighting (in a Batman movie?) can do a lot for him.

He positively sparkles.

He's not Christian Bale, so he's not the worst Batman by default unless he goes full Jared Leto in the role.

Speaking of which: is Jared Leto's Joker in this movie? If so, that's an automatic skip for me. It's rare that I've seen a performance so thoroughly wreck a movie.

I hope whatever they produce will be good but it seems like they often want to do the origin story when they switch actors. We really don't need that with Batman.

IGN has the full first episode of Doom Patrol available on their youtube channel for the next week.

You're the worst!

Animated Batman Hush comes out in July. Streams in AUG.

I like Christian Bale, but I can't take umbrage to this take. I don't think he did a great job in the role.

I also don't think we'll see Leto's Joker again. Apparently even Suicide Squad 2 is going to be an all new cast.

Alas, I think the winner in the race for a new a portmanteau has gone to "R-Bats."

I was under the impression he was above average. Most people will associate him with Twilight for understandable reasons; but I had heard he had done great things with (Cosmopolis, Good Time); although, in full disclosure, I haven't seen him in anything since he won the Goblet of Fire

Depends if it was him or Nolan pushing the ridiculous Batman voice
