This will probably be my next big Switch release, although I'm disappointed that Nintendo won't have their own levels in it. The user created stuff should be extremely creative and challenging though.

What? Nintendo isn't doing any levels? That sucks. Not the main draw and all, but boo.

They're doing 100 levels as part of a Story Mode for the game. They look like they're shorter, bite-sized levels to introduce different mechanics and concepts, but they're there.

That's good news. Tim Gettys of Kinda Funny said otherwise on a recent podcast so I'm glad he's wrong

I'm not sure where he got that idea.

The Mario Maker 2 Direct was this afternoon, by the way, and had loads of cool-looking stuff in it. I was already pretty excited for the game, but I'm really excited for it now. There were a lot of course ideas I had for the first one that I just couldn't do because of the limitations of the system, but it looks like many of them are now much more do-able.

Yeah, Mario Maker 2 is gonna be an easy full-price purchase for me.

Does the Mario 3D World mode in Mario Maker 2 count as a 2013 Wii U game? Asking for a friend.

I didn't really connect too much with the original, but that Direct presentation certainly made it look like a lot of fun. I might be tempted at some point.

I had no plans to pick up Mario Maker 2 either, given that I'm not really interested in making my own stages. The direct made it look cool though...it would be fun to see what other people come up with. Maybe I'll hold off for a while and see if the general quality of user-made levels is worth the purchase.

Mario Maker 2 will be a day 1 purchase for me! The original was my GOTY a couple of years ago.

The 3D World mode took me completely by surprise, as did the multiplayer.

The ability to create custom objectives for courses other than just "reach the goal" should be pretty neat. I had made a couple of "find all of the coins" levels for the original game, but of course only "honor system" actually enforced those rules. Now that should be fully supported.

I am hoping for a couple of features that weren't mentioned in the Direct:

- The ability to create a "world" of connected courses (and upload them as such);
- Or at least, the ability to set the list order of courses that I've uploaded (without having to delete and recreate them).

Farscry, if you are around, please get this game and make another complete set of classic-style worlds for us to play!

Just want to remind everyone this gem comes out today on the Switch. It is terrific. One of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. You'll be shocked by how scary a 2D game can be.

Honestly, if I had never made any levels in the first one I would still have gotten my money’s worth out of it. It’s like having a never-ending stream of new Mario content, not to mention seeing cool things my internet friends make.

I think this week I’ll try to do one play through of the original SMB. Then in August when my world settles back down I will try to recreate it from memory. I had fun with that general approach with 1-1 in the original.

Ok that's a good point and I am almost certainly going to purchase it now.

I like these kinds of videos.

I am super mixed on themes. I love how snappy the switch interface is and I would hate to see that impacted on the other hand the home screen is a bit drab.

Finally, some actual gameplay footage and not weird cutup highlight reels with weird camera angles. Now it looks like an Ultimate Alliance game and not an over the shoulder musou title.

I don't understand why they keep showing all the gameplay with the UI/HUD elements removed.

It's a bunch of footage dev/intern recorded while putting together clips of moves, etc. They likely reused to that as b-roll instead of capturing actual in-game footage. The stuff was probably shot a while ago and the UI wasn't finished. Probably from when they were trying to show off individual characters and moves to producers, publishers, etc.

In general, most of this stuff all seems very amateur. Budget on this is likely a lot smaller than we think. Lots of money probably went to the art, which is why we're seeing some stuff (likely) being reused for hype.

I'm completely spitballing here for scenarios why so much of the released footage looks meh.

This looks better:

I have a tendency to keep saying this, I feel, but we'll no doubt get plenty of actual gameplay footage from Treehouse during E3, with the UI included. They'll actually play the game and so you'll probably get a chance to see what it looks like closer to its actual final vision than you might otherwise get from an E3 presentation.

For someone who's never played a Marvel UA game, are they a critically-multiplayer type game, or will soloing likely be just fine?

Just as a rider to Antichulius' question, is it basically Diablo with Marvel characters?

Yes you can solo just fine, and no they're only sorta diablo. Unless this one is different there's no loot and you're running with 3 AI companions. They are isometric action games like diablo, but the main focus is on your teams, your skills and the combos of those teams.

X-Men Legends had loot. Just stats equipment if I remember. I think there was leveling up and skill trees. But yeah not a loot grind like Marvel Heroes Online.

It has been stated that MUA3 has 2 camera mode options. The top down "isometric" and the over the shoulder. Either one can be selected in solo play. And the "loot" in this is xp cubes. There's also health and stamina drops, just like past MUA games. All that's from some of the gameinformer coverage.

From the Pokemon catch-em-all:

At first I thought this might be to avoid the negative response last year's E3 Direct had by focusing so much on Smash. However, this is a 15 minute Direct, which... isn't nearly as much time as Smash got last year. So I'm not quite certain why Pokemon is getting its own Direct a week before E3, as I cannot imagine them having E3 without Pokemon there.

We'll see.

Doesn't Pokémon always get their own?

Assuming you claimed the first 3 months when this deal was first posted, you should be able to claim the remaining 9 months now/shortly.

The first one of these was cool so I am posting the video.
