Yet another headphone thread

I just got the new Samsung Galaxy buds and they are awesome. I had a "cheapy" $40 pair from Amazon before that would cut out when working out or running. The Samsungs just lasted an outside 8k, weaving in and out of snow bank, run without cutting out a single time. I also used them in my home gym with no cutouts. My only concern is they are just sweat resistant but I will need sweat proof come summer.

I really have a hard time spending that much for headphones...so I bought these and so far they are ok. They do seem to cut out and need to be reset but at 1/3 the cost is is so hard to justify the better ones.

Still I am really tempted. Do the Galaxy buds ever go on sale?

I think the glaxy buds just came out like days ago didn't they? Or is it just that they're giving them away with the new S10's?

I had to order an S10 for work. It comes with a free pair of Galaxy Buds that work doesn't care about. So I guess I'm going to see how those work with my Pixel 3? I do wish they were black instead of white, but I can't argue with the price. Wonder if they'll work better than my current Anker buds. Those are fine except when I'm at the office, where there's a ton of bluetooth devices around, and it creates interference.

I’ve got a pair of the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX like new in original box. These sold for 199 + shipping, I just don’t need another pair of headphones, so letting them go for $150 shipped in the US.

Sold!

Correct, galaxy buds just came out and they came free with my phone but can be purchased stand alone.

@farley3k

Those ones, that you have, look like a rebrand of the cheapy ones I also have (There appear to be many rebrands on Amazon that all game the review system). They were OK for walking around but cut out often when biking or running. Also, the sound is in the budget headphone category.

You are right, they are in the budget category but after my initial gadget lust of the galaxy buds wore off I realized that 1 - I bought the ones I have with a $20 coupon so they were only $27, 2 - I wear them while riding the bus or walking the dog so I really can live with what I have.

I want some headphones! Needs:

On-ear (preferably not over-ear)

Bluetooth

Not noise-cancelling

Somewhat stylish

Good to great sound quality, but not necessarily excellent

Durable (I tend to be kind of rough with them)

Use profile: daily use during work at the office, while in stores, while doing chores around the house. Most frequent content is podcasts, followed by rock music

I’d like them to not be too bulky, and cost less than $150.

Thanks!

Closed back then assume?

This is a bit confusing because the headphone industry uses these two terms almost interchangeably. If you do a search for either term this is what you get:

IMAGE(https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61SPYJUqzvL._SX425_.jpg)

Do you mean something more like this?

IMAGE(https://www.sony.com/image/73156ef56be3ec543335baa517c39384?fmt=pjpeg&bgcolor=FFFFFF&bgc=FFFFFF&wid=2515&hei=1320)

This is the style I like but they are hard to find because they are less popular and there is no good search term for them that I know of.

I call those Bose phones on-ear, where there isn’t a concave opening that your ears go into.

https://www.rtings.com/headphones/le...

Yep, that's on-ear. Those Sony headphones are in-ear. Cans that go around your ears are over-ear.

I don't have any recommendations for on-ear Bluetooth phones that are strictly for best audio quality, but if anyone wants workout headphones that are on-ear, I highly recommend the Urbanears Hellas.

On-ear headphones for exercising are hard to find. All of the "sport" headphones tend to be in-ear, and I hate hate hate in-ear headphones. The Hellas have nice washable headbands and ear cushions that are made to soak up some sweat.

Based on your description it seems like AirPods would be great for you. Have you considered them? They really are good for just walking around and when doing stuff around the house.

I've seen some good Audio Technica on ear offerings in that price range. I have the Samsung Level On and really like them but not sure about durability. Durability seems to be hard to come by this day and age with all the plastics and pleather. It feels like every headphone on Amazon has pictures of either plastics cracking or cheap seams breaking.

So I got the Jabra Elite Actives as a gift yesterday and they worked great outside for running but were cutting out in certain places in my house especially in the left earbud. Today I started to narrow it down to a certain quadrant of my house which was above my garage. Went into the garage and they pretty much cut out completely. It turned out to be my e-bike charger. Then I noticed it happened around my garbage disposal too.

My Galaxy Buds and Taotronics have no issues with it so my guess is these things are super susceptible to higher amperage electrical devices. Quite a few Amazon reviews/questions mention similar situations. Also my first search result on google was a reddit thread. Since they will be primarily for outdoor running I will probably keep them but buyer beware. Probably not good for a workshop.

Can not stand in-ear at all.

After posting that RTings link, maybe I should try that Marshall set they have as the top on-ears...

AKG Y50s are pretty okay. But they're not super durable.

Friend of mine recently went through a wireless earbud testing spree trying out options from Apple, Beats, Jabra, and a few other brands and he says that the Tranya T3 are some of the most comfortable and best sounding out of the lot.

Alright, you convinced me enough to get a pair for biking. I don't play on high volume and the Taotronics lack bass so can be hard to hear with the wind noise. The other cheap pair I have tried cuts out all the time (Enacfire E18) and I don't want to use fancy ones because there is a good chance of them falling out and breaking.

Just to clarify, in-ear often means there's something wedged into the ear canal, which is something Airpods don't do. They sit in the bowl just outside your ear canal, like regular Earpods do. If you're dead-set on on-ear, you might find the JLab Neon Wirelesses decent enough once you flex the headband a few times. The Bose On-Ears are great, and comfortable, but unless you have some kind of warehouse discount store membership, they're just slightly out of the price range you've set.

I bought a pair too. Sound quality and seal is good. They also seem to stay in place. I'll give them their first work out tomorrow (the arrived late Saturday).

Yes in-ears have always been uncomfortable for me too. That is why I like the Airpods as they don't actually stick in like the most of the competitors with the projector dome tips do.

I received mine too and it will get the connection quality test this evening on my run (if it isn't raining).

A few quick thoughts:

-The play pause button is really hard to push. While it's in your ear the only way to do it is make a claw with the index and thumb and press with pointer. I noticed the right one is quite a bit harder than the left one.

-Sound quality is much better than other "cheap" truly wireless pairs I have tried but heavy on the bass. Leaning towards really heavy.

-These things are huge. Frankenstein effect to the max.

-They feel OK but look pretty cheap with the plastic chrome and noticeable seams.

-Huge earbuds mean larger batteries. Supposedly these things can get up to 8 hours out of the case.

Bose has their on-ear model on their factory renewed Outlet.

Anybody have a recommendation (based on experience) for either the neck wire bluetooth or true wireless cheap-ish ear buds that have a decent mic? Not looking to spend a bunch, because they're mainly for audiobooks and calls with an occasional video.

Requirements:
- Preferably sub $50
- Good mic - A lot of the reviews say they sound horrible on phone calls but have decent audio. I'd like to be able to make phone calls.
- No lag on videos
- Decent play time
- If true wireless, ability to use either earbud independently (some only work that way with one side).
- At least decent sound. Music will be a lower priority, but from experience, some of the low price stuff can sound pretty good. I've got better headphones if I need good sound.

I've had some Anker's and Soundcore's, but the set I've had since December broke (probably can warranty), so I need another pair.

So after 5 years, I think my headset is finally starting to give up the ghost, so I am looking for some good recommendations. I use it for playing PC games while on voice chat with friends or playing D&D if that makes any difference. I currently have a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2100 and have really liked them as they are comfortable for long gaming sessions with a seemingly good mic.

So here is what I am looking for:

  • $150 or less is my preference but willing to negotiate a bit.
  • Lightweight and comfortable, as I can possibly wear them for 10 hours straight.
  • Wireless but not Bluetooth.
  • Over the ear design.

Anyone have some good suggestions that meet those criteria?

As much as I hate to say this... you just described the Sony Gold Wireless Headset. The 2018 model is more sturdy than the earlier model. It includes a non-bluetooth dongle you can use with your PC, and you can use it with a wired connection to anything else. It even has a mic built in. I find it quite comfortable for long play sessions, even wearing glasses, but I have read that people with Sputnik-like heeds who need huuuge pillows may find it a wee bit tight.

And it is under $100.

HyperX Cloud Flight.

This is the standard recommendation for this now as far as I know, although the Steelseries Arctis series wireless headsets does have its fans as well. I just don't like Steelseries' software.

If Logitech comes out with a wireless version of their new G Pro headset with the Blue Microphones mic built in it's probably a new winner but for now that thing's wired only at $99.

I've had ok success with the anker workout buds I bought for phone calls. I'm understandable if not the best quality.

I’m told my Sony Golds produce muffled voice from my mic. Otherwise I like them. And mine are from 2016, for whatever that may clarify.
