Great songs. Great covers.

This one's kind of weird.

At work and not a chance to watch yet. Is that new Guano Apes? I loved them back in the 90s.

Yeah, this is new school Guano Apes. Bit of a different feel.

I was thinking of this cover today:

which reminds me of the Suzie Ungerleider/Dala cover of "So Long Mariannne" but I can't find that anywhere on YouTube. I like this cover of hers too, so:

Two weird but incredibly sweet covers:

and you figure the best Bruce! cover would be from The Gaslight Anthem (or maybe The Bouncing Souls), but I just think this is uniquely special:

and the best GSA cover isn't of Bruce! or even The Who, but of a Dylan song anyways:

besides, this Brian Fallon cover of a modern classic is a heartbreakingly pretty one:

I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole and found another good Steve 'n Seagulls performance. This is their take on The Foo Fighters song Pretender. It's considerably more mellow than their take on Thunderstruck, but somehow it still works.

Hmm... the timestamp link doesn't seem to be working with the embedded version. Scrub ahead to 1:33 or try this link to YouTube.

I was listening to the Discount singles collection today, which reminded me of the song my handle comes from, and the cover I heard when the band hoped they wouldn't get sued. Let alone refrain from suing them, BB put the EP up on his website to help them reach new fans : )

wait, this is 20 years old?

This one kind of blew me away...

That was amazing.

That was something indeed. The vocalist tried his damnedest to suck all the sneering, tired cynicism out of it, and then the lead guitar just jammed it back in with that monster solo... Very nice.

Not sure if if counts but Westworld is full modern songs done it a old timey way. I love the sound track.

No, it definitely counts. I have been listening to a playlist of just the rearranged pop songs at work. As a sample here is the version of Rolling Stones' Paint It Black

Yup! Posted some at the start of the thread. Love them!

Thanks for the heads up! I just checked this out and its awesome.

Speaking of TV shows that feature covers of popular songs, after finishing the first season of Mayans M.C., the wife and I started revisiting Sons of Anarchy. Holy crap, there's a ton of awesome covers in there!

Original by the Violent Femmes

This is one of those "I had no idea this was a cover for decades" covers

Holy sh*t someone else that listens to Seven Nations!

To be fair a large selection of their songs are covers.

Yeah, I think I may have heard "Under the Milky Way Tonight" from them before I heard the original!

As long as we're on the subject of Celtic covers of Donnie Darko songs:

I'll add to this venture!

I still love these two covers:

Remember many years ago there was that viral video with the Gotye cover with the 5 people collectively playing a single guitar? It turns out that's a real band with their own music and albums and everything. They still put out weird covers though, like this most recent one. Have some Billy Ray Cyrus on friggin' handbells and improvised percussion:

That was a really good one - thanks for sharing!

After looking around at their YouTube playlists, I found this Maroon 5 5-man guitar cover. I’m not familiar with the original, but really enjoyed this one as well.

Oh, how great is YouTube for finding gems from the past! My girlfriend at the time took to me to see them on this tour! That night was *magical*!
