Monster Hunter World Catch-All

I jumped on the GMG deal(without seeing this thread).... starting to play(5 hrs), Im using an xb360 controller.... is this the real way to play this game??, or should I switch to mouse/keyboard??.... right know it feels great and controls great with the xb360 controller.... please advise experienced hunters....

It's great on a controller. I pretty much always default to controller for any 3rd person action game that's not a shooter. I can't imagine playing MH on K/M unless I was playing one of the ranged classes.

Yeah, been using a PS4 controller. Button prompts are still tuned to xbox controllers, though. There's a mod out there to change things to PS4 button prompts, but I haven't done it.

I can't imagine playing with a mouse and keyboard, but to be fair, I've never tried. MH has always been a dual stick game for me.

Controller here, too. I use the PS4 controller, but the PC thinks it’s an XBOX controller. Meh. It’s fine.

Mouse and Keyboard works just fine, you get a bunch of extra buttons to do things with but I also prefer the controller. I use the Xbox One controller on PC but I also played through the whole thing on PS4 and there's little difference between them.

Xbox One controller on PC for me. Works great.

I'm assuming that they don't let you fully keybind your item pouch? It would be pretty rad to map a max/ancient potion to the spacebar while still using a controller.

Ooo, I'll check that tonight.

Looks like the most they give you is options to use items, open the radials and quick link between the 4. So there's no built in way to directly use something in 'item x'. But I'm sure a creative person with macros could do something like that.

IC. Too bad. Looks like I'm just going to stick with the radial menu.

I could not imagine playing a MH type combat on keyboard. Even if I played on PC (do not currently) I'd be using my controller.

I got used to it because Dauntless didn't have controller support (not even sure if it does yet). It's really not bad and is actually really nice for the fps-like weapons.

But DPS weapons are not a Hammer.

Or hunting horn. Doot doot, motherf*ckers.

And you can't infinitely run back and forth with those weapons....

New Iceborne trailer. Nargacuga returns!

Console release date is September 6th! That's much sooner than I was expecting. I'm excited.

Sadly, PC is just slated for Winter now, so they weren't able to line up simultaneous release dates. At least that's a much smaller gap than the original PC release.

And if you really want some nitty gritty details, here's the 30 min developer update:

Looks cool. I need to finish the game before Sept...

Define "finish."

New MHW content is very welcome. I've put in so many hours into this game already and the only things I still want to achieve is making the Behemoth equipment, making the Witcher equipment, and getting the last couple of crowns to finish of the achievements for the game. I'm pretty sure that the crowns are the only things that are reasonably doable solo however the more I get denied the crowns for monsters I have left the more annoying it becomes.

More content coming in 4 months is really good. I'm excited for the large elk-ish monster and the expanded combat abilites could really shake things up too. I'm less excited for Nargacuga and maybe Tigrex if that is what the roar is from at the end of the trailer. Neither monster has been high on my favorites list and them being pretty similar in design doesn't help matters.

I haven't yet gotten back into the game because toxic content from Gamefaqs was messing with my head. I know I should avoid that place like the plague, but there's a bunch of useful hints and tips from there that's nice to know. Hm. Might be good to post some of those things here without the toxicity.

The toxicity comes because I can solo the Arch-Tempereds and I want to be able to play with others, but no one I can group with regularly still plays the game on PC and the last time I tried to play with randoms, we never finished a single group hunt. This normally doesn't faze me, but the content on Gamefaqs about "stupid randumbs" got into my head and I was starting to rage. And that's why I stopped.

Ummm... I think I haven't fought everything yet. And I'm still capped in High Rank, I think?

It's been so long I don't remember.

You should remember the stupid thunder pony. If you don't remember the stupid thunder pony, you're not finished yet.

oh yes, i did the thunder pony. I think there's a few after that though. Double Bagels, I think I have to do? Something like that, I can't remember.

My plan, I think, is to go back, and pick up a weapon I haven't used much, practice it on lower rank monsters first, and then build it up so that I'm ready for the tougher fights. I'm thinking maybe Charge Blade. Or maybe Bow.

That way it's not as tedious to go backwards a little bit.

The thunder pony comes first, then the Double Bagels. The stupid thunder pony comes after the Double Bagels. After that is a straight shot to Rank 100 for the last official quest of the title. Then you can run Arch-Tempered runs and various collaborative events as you please.

OK, see, I knew there was something left!

I never did the double tempered bagel hunt after the credits rolled on either platform. Need to find some time to finish off that quest. I have been thinking the same thing as gamerparent though for all the optionals I have left to do. I have done greatsword and SnS quite a bit and want to really dig into the charge blade at some point. A lot of my time is eaten up by the jrpg club right now though.

Recommend ranged weaponry for the bagels. It was the first time I put down my hammer/great swords down.

I played about 20 hours or so (after the first giant boss battle that takes you to your second base and spent about 4 or 5 hours there) and just found the gameplay loop just not enjoyable. Seemed like just too many different systems and not enough (in-game) guidance on how to properly use them.

Funny thing is Monster hunter world is 10x more approachable then previous iterations. However, you are 100% correct in a lot of systems and they only can give you so much information. As someone who generally enjoys struggling along and figuring things out on my own I don't think this is the game for that. I 100% recommend either using this forum or another forum or probably best is finding an experienced player to play with. I would of 100% bounced of MH4 if it was not for Dyni/Doak showing me the ropes. Not sure what platform you are on but at least on PS4 imagine a big wave of players will be back when the new DLC drops. We often had a party up with bunch of people doing all sorts of things that you can always just ask questions in.

I mentioned this in Slack, but I started this the other night and just had a tough time getting going with it. The opening with lots of cutscenes and cinematic action sequences just didn't work for me. Dyni described the classic Monster Hunter opening as "dump 'em and stump 'em" and I guess that's more what I was expecting, not poorly-dubbed knock-off Tomb Raider. Then my power went out, so I just went to bed.

Does it get to that Monster Hunter gather-hunt-harvest loop pretty quickly, or am I going to have to suffer through more story sequences and more holding run while exciting things happen around me?
