I just started getting into racing games a bit about six months ago (primarily GT Sport). I'm definitely not very good, but I was on GWJ a month or so ago looking for any racing game threads and didn't find much.

I haven't heard of Racing Room Experience before, so thanks for the info on that and bumping the thread! Enjoyed the recent vids.

Here is a stream and some clips from the most recent race night.

RaceRoom is a good game to get into racing, mainly because it F2P and about 2 times a year they put the whole thing on sale for about the price of a single game. And it's very good.

We are always looking to have more racers. We average about 10 people per night right now. Join us any time. I'll try to update this thread more often.

We organize in a mostly racing themed Slack channel. If you watch racing and are looking for more people to complain about racing with it might be worth joining.

I noticed you mentioned GT Sport. Race Room is PC only, so if you have a half way ok computer (its not too demanding) you should be able to play.

I definitely second that, great group of guys to hang with.

And they can't rear end you off a chicane in Slack.

Next event will be at Silverstone on June 2nd @ 9pm est.

PC wouldn't be an issue. I don't have a new machine, but it's still going pretty strong generally. I run a (basic) wheel as well, which I just find a lot more fun.

I have mainly been in GT Sport and if there's something else out I want to play I usually can't race much as my overall time has been pretty limited recently. I was just thinking of trying to do the FIA Manufacturer's series in GT since a new season is beginning.

Overall, I can get around the track but actual racing is harder. I'm not very good at making adjustments when in traffic, so more experience there would be fun.

I'll certainly try out RaceRoom no matter what if it's F2P. I'd be interested to compare. I haven't really played any PC racers.

We have people at all different skill levels, so don't let that stop you for giving it a go. Our skill levels run the gamut from Mercedes to Williams.

Teddy's race strategy went full Ferrari in race one.

Download was a bit larger than expected, but I was able to grab RaceRoom tonight--just as I'm about to be without internet service for at least a week or so.

If I can't check it out offline, it'll be on the list as soon as I'm back online. I'm sure I'll know more once I try it out, but accumulating tracks in particular looks like it could add up. I'm also not familiar with a lot of their car classes, but I see some that look equivalent to GT3, GT4, TCR, LMP and various Formula types.

GTR 3 = GT3, that is also what we are currently racing.

Anybody have thoughts on Assetto Corsa? I notice it's $10 on Humble. It doesn't look like it includes more than a couple tracks that I don't have in GT Sport, but I swear I've seen streamers doing all kinds of crazy stuff, like F1. Mods maybe?

Yeah, there's a pretty wide array of mods available.

It's a solid crunchy sim.

A number of the mods look paid, which is interesting. It all looks cool, but I think I'll hold back since time is always limited and I might end up wanting to get a little content on R3E.

There are a few paid mods for AC - I've bought a couple from RSS (the F4 and classic F1 mods), but for the most part they're free and readily available from somewhere like Race Department. RD also has a rating system, which lets you avoid the shoddier work.

Our league is on its second season with RRE and it's hard to state how much better it is than Project Cars where the league spent the first three seasons. It doesn't have weather options, but clicking on menu items actually means something, (not always the case with PCars), and the netcode allows some very tight wheel to wheel racing without anyone being fired into the scenery for no apparent reason or, say, driving upside down.

I gave RaceRoom a try tonight. Lots to say--the gist is that I liked it, but found it pretty different (and probably harder).

Braking in particular seemed WAY less effective than I'm used and I couldn't away with getting on the power as early out of most corners--although I have no idea what kind of tires I was on. The free cars weren't really types I was familiar with so hard to compare. I also lost sight of the track somewhat frequently in cockpit.

It would be fun to try more, but I'd need to practice quite a bit to even get around the track. You guys are racing GT3 cars this season? Remaining scheduled tracks look spread out over various packs. I might wait to see if the premium pack/virtual currency has a sale sometime.

If you are coming from GT Sport, yes Raceroom is a lot less forgiving than it. When I go back to GTS it feels almost like an arcade game to me.

It is worth the trouble to setup R3E's web overlay.

Spoilered because text wall.

Spoiler:

Raceroom New Overlay Setup Guide:
1. Go here: https://github.com/sector3studios/we... scroll down to 'Quick start' and click 'Extract public/dash.zip'
2. You'll begin downloading a zip file called 'Dash'. Once downloaded, unzip the file.
3. Once Unzipped, you'll want to select 'dash.exe' or 'dash'. I only have 'dash' as an option to choose. Open 'dash' and you should get a black window with a message 'looking for R3E process...', which is just the software waiting for Raceroom to be opened. I recommend 'pinning' dash to your task bar.
4. DON'T OPEN R3E YET.
5. Next go to 'Steam' -> Library -> Right click on R3E -> Properties -> set Launch Options -> paste this into the box: -webdev -webHudUrl=https://sector3studios.github.io/web... -> 'ok' to save -> close steam
6. Open R3E.
7. Once in R3E turn off all in-game HUD options EXCEPT FOR MIRRORS (you can leave the track map on if you'd like)
8. The in-game overlay will not show up until you're racing session begins. Once in a session give the overlay a couple of seconds to appear.
9. Once the in-game overlay appears, you'll see a 'gear' and 'eye' symbol. Clicking the 'gear' allows you to change the widgets you want to use. Clicking the 'eye' will hide/show the in-game overlay.
10. You can select/deselect the widgets you desire in the table.
Couple of notes:
1. You can move any of the widgets on your screen by just clicking and dragging them.
2. You can also change the the size of the widgets by scrolling your mouse once you have the widget selecTed.
3. To make the 'gear' and 'eye' symbols disappear, move your mouse to the right.
Trouble Shooting:
1. Not seeing an overlay? : Make sure you have 'dash' open and running in the background while R3E is running. (edited)

It gives you more features than the in game overlay. One of the best ones for someone new to the game is the pedal indicators. They show you how far you are depressing the pedals, and I was surprised how far off I thought halfway depressed was. That could help a lot when accelerating out of corners.

You can tune down the throttle curve a bit too, to help out with going out of corners, same said for braking. Cockpit camera is fully adjustable, I would try the FOV calculator, then adjust seating position a hair.

Or if you are like me, adjust seating position A LOT.

As a single-monitor peasant I have my view all the way forward. The left side of my screen is the McLaren A pillar.

A lot of the free cars in Race Room (notably the Saleen and the Silhouettes) have more power than their rear tyres can handle in low gears. Corner exit is very easy to smoke the rears into significant oversteer and then RRRE has a weird out of control moment happen where nothing is bringing the front of the car back.

The GT3s have traction control to help, but on first and some second gear corners you can try being a gear higher on exit for help.

Take it from me, Captain Spinnypants, car choice is important too. I struggle in cars that are spin-happy, hence why my car in the current season is one of the slowest (but most hard to spin) in the class.

Try the WTCC cars if you want something more forgivable.

And i echo the advice to tune the throttle sensitivity down if you're finding youre spinning on corner exit due to over-application of gas. And brake sensitivity up of your finding your not getting enough breaking coming into a corner. Honestly, I found tuning the pedal response to how your feet naturally operate is much easier than re-learning the biting points of the pedals.

If you go into the store in the game, you can test drive any car before purchasing. Great way to try out a few things before committing

Appreciate the tips--I'll bookmark this to come back to sometime soon to try things out. I was certainly missing the brake and throttle indicators while driving and based on the options screen I had to press the brake quite hard to get it to register 100%.

I didn't realize I'd be able to test drive any car either, so I will certainly try one or two I'm more familiar with. One of the last things I did in GT Sport recently was some laps in a BMW M6 GT3 with hard racing tires and that thing was damn hard to control exiting corners as well.

I'll drop back in once I have more to report.

What's the cheapest you guys have seen the premium pack (or 10k vrp) run? 64.99 USD currently. I assume new content released after buying a pack would cost extra.

During Black Friday last year I bought everything available at the time for around $60. That was a prorated price based on things I already owned though. However, I only owned 1 car and 10 tracks at the time.

Bookmark the page below. It is always cheaper to buy their digital currency directly from them instead of making purchases from within the game. Their currency is called Virtual Race Points (VRP) and when you make a purchase they email you a code IIRC.

Going to check out raceroom this week. I got a wheel a couple of weeks ago (my first) and I've been dabbling in Assetto Corsa and Project Racing 2.

Welcome to the rabbithole.

Downloaded Race Room last night but didn't get a chance to fire it up. Hopefully, I'll get to it this weekend. Any quick tips for a new player (besides wait for a sale to buy all of the content)?

Set up proper FOV and customize brake and throttle sensitivity.

Here is a FOV calculator.

Make sure to go through your settings and remap functions to your wheel. Take the time to setup the alternate HUD spoilered above. Download the program Crew Chief. It acts as your spotter and crew chief to let you know what's going on around you and around the track in general.
