Any photographers in the house?

Thanks!

That's a fantastic shot, Tanglebones.

I seem to have the worst timing when it comes to raptors hunting. I always end up showing up too early or too late, or finding the bird who apparently never successfully eats. In Alaska I got a great shot of a juvenile bald eagle catching a piece of plastic trash in a stream....

Hoping to get luckier this year!

We went to the Butterfly Pavilion this weekend. I only have my 50mm since the vast majority of my photography is portraits, so I have a lot of blurry shots of butterflies as my camera struggled to get focus. But I did get this one, and I can't believe the detail it captured.

A couple pictures of the weird lights from the fall.

Gorgeous butterfly! Great stalking skills, too, to get that close with a 50mm prime.

Cool light photos, too! Really like the top one.

Here are some outtakes from this weekend's photography. Not sharp enough to use for anything, but I still liked something in each of 'em.

Hello, it's just me again. Filling up the thread.
This poor Leopard Frog didn't have a great weekend. Egret was pretty stoked, though.

Nice work. How often are you out there?

Thank you very much!

I try to get out to one preserve or another every time I can. After work, weekends, "sick" days.

If the weather isn't so horrible that there's no light to expose a photo with, I try to be outside. Especially this time of year where between work and the long winter I am just dying to be outdoors.

Trying something a bit different with the post production here. Feral, around the corner from my office:

I like it! Good subject separation despite the patterns and shadows. Nice and sharp without being TOO sharp / noisy. Great expression. Super good.

Cat's right (our left) whiskers look extra "thick" for some reason. Trick of lighting / processing? Or just some good-ass whisker genes?

Just the light, I think

Love the nature shots! Are you like me in that you don't particularly like taking photos of humans? Photos of people can be amazing if done right, but for me, it's all about nature and the environment.

I just don't have any particular interest in portrait photography, personally. I love looking at good portraits, because I think when done right they are fascinating. But I don't really have any interest in taking them myself. Not to mention studio lighting is expensive as hell (of course it is).

I have my wife model for me on occasion if I need foreground interest in a landscape shot or something, though.

I love hiking and being out in nature, so the alignment of my hobbies works out pretty well!

Hello, it's me again.

From the other side of what I do, some fun SFW burlesque shots from the other day; the show was themed around What We Do in the Shadows - I'll still throw them behind a spoiler tag to be safe:

Hello? No, no, don't bother getting up. It's just me again.

But at least I brought some photographs of things that aren't animals!

Spent part of the day yesterday at a local race track, Autobahn Country Club.

Fun!

Nice car shots! I've tried to get that same effect of the car being in focus and the background blurry, and it's tough to say the least.

Thanks!

Yeah, I looked up some motorsport photographers before I went and checked out the settings they recommend. I threw out a LOT of shots where I didn't pan correctly. Was a fun challenge! Most of these were shot at either 1/125 or 1/250.

Playing around with instagram filters a bit to recover from imperfect focus:

Sharpness fetishism usually ends up being a hindrance... especially given how most images tend to be viewed quite scaled down.

nice dragonfly!

Dragonflies are so cool.
