Can I buy a Veloxi bobblehead for my cockpit?

Hah, I wish, but I've seen about half a dozen so far, including Bucky from Buckshots (in-game fast food chain), a hula guy, a baby falcon and a little robot guy at least.

They could link it to his Steam/Epic account and it could just be whatever ship he is flying at the time.

Even during combat? Or does it drop you at the nearest base when you start again?

Envisioning a save with the proton torpedo inches from the cockpit glass.

I think so, I quit once during a bad combat scenario thinking it would dump me at a base, but nope, I was right back in it.

Apparently if it's bad enough, you'll be teleported to safety if you save and quit. I'm not 100% clear as to how it works. Travis explained it to me, but it was kind of over my head.

Ever since then, if combat gets really bad, I just let myself die.

Half-way through the 3 hour dev Twitch stream and I am sold.

This looks so good. If they can make the PC and Switch use the same cloud saves, I’d probably double dip.

Is there any game that does that currently? That would indeed be amazing if it's possible.

Yeah I don’t think there is, but just saying.

I kinda wish you hadn't shown us this! Now I gotta wait an unspecified amount of time! I hate that!

Oh damn. I might be in. I haven't enjoyed a good space sim since Wing Commander 4. Is this similar to that or Rebel Galaxy? I didn't really like Rebel Galaxy much. Not sure why. I didn't give it a good shot though.

This = Privateer properly remade with lots of new features.

I am just stunned that this is a 5 man studio.

Yup, it's Privateer with 2019 sensibilities.

Is there much in the exploring, mining, trading side of the game? If I'm only somewhat into dog fighting, how am I likely to fare?

All of those things are in the game but I've not done them myself. There are mining lasers and scanners, any you'll get tips from bartenders as to where to go exploring to find loot, but you can also explore on your own as well, which is fun.

So I have to ask the question most important to me, are there ancient alien artifacts and ruins and lore to find and explore?

Only thing I've seen is a cargo labeled "artifacts" which can be sold for quite a tidy sum.

Also, is this a serious question? You can't do this in any space combat game I can think of.

It definitely was serious. It's my favorite part of Elite and Mass Effect Andromeda. Ancient aliens and lost civilizations is my favorite science fiction theme and trope.

Oooooookay.

What?

Oh . . . nothing

Don't be passive aggressive! We're squadron mates.

Yeah no judgment in the space thread. Some people probably even like Eve Online. To each his own.

It's just...this is a game very heavily in the Wing Commander/X-Wing mold, and none of them had alien artifacts or ruins to explore. So expecting this to, and being saddened that it doesn't, just strikes me as very out of left field, as it were.

It's like asking for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sad that one didn't get a crabcake.

Maybe I'm misremembering but didn't the plot of the first deal with ancient civilization tech, sort of like Mass Effect?

There is room in my heart for both ancient aliens and privateering.

Two series I had largely skipped in that generation.

Have you played Halo, Destiny, and Anthem? Pretty much every big budget sci-fi game has that trope.

No, yes, no.
