Hanna is pretty good. I havent finished it yet, but so far it's intriguing.

I enjoyed it, felt it could have been better though.

I am trying to think of an example where they took a middling movie and made it into a TV show and the show was good. Anyone?

Of all of the movies to make into a show, how did they arrive at Hanna?

Your premise is flawed. Hanna is an outstanding movie.

As for why Hanna, the showrunner is one of the movie's screenwriters.

Yeah I remember liking Hanna quite a bit at the time.

I liked the movie until the end.

Yeah Hanna was great, dunno what you're on about.

Can't wait to see the show.

Different strokes I guess... it wasn't bad, but it was just ok.

Stargate?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Gunsmoke, I think?

M*A*S*H

MASH was a movie? Didn’t know that.

Buffy and MASH definitely.

Westworld also.

MASH was a book, then it was a movie, then it was a tv show

I liked all of these movies including Hanna. A ho hum movie for me that became a tv show might be Alien Nation.

Another movie liked that became a tv show would be Highlander. The cartoon was terrible but the live action version was pretty good.

I recently rewatched Hanna (the movie) because I realized that Saoirse Ronan from Lady Bird was the lead actress, it still held up well.

The series did some things that I thought were good- like expanding the vacationing family role. In the movie they were last seen being interrogated and left with no resolution, but I can't imagine it things ended well for them. So it was great to see them expanded on post vacation.

And it was interesting how they muddied up the dad's and Marissa's backstory to make things more morally complex.

And it was great to see Mireille Enos again. I loved her in her lead role in The Killing.

Overall, it wasn't the next Killing Eve, but it was worth watching.

Good call!

Weird Science

A show I will never watch again, because it's 99,99% sure to be horribly sexist and a reminder of how horrible nineties hairdo's were.

The entirety of John Hughes output is a primer in 1980s rape culture. Avoid all of it, outside of watching explicitly to remind yourself how far we've come.

Yeah those scenes in Home Alone, Ferris Bueller, and Planes Trains & Automobiles are so cringy.

You may joke, but I challenge you to go re-watch them with a critical eye. My bet is you'll find plenty to cringe at, with the possible exception of Home Alone.

Mostly I just wanted to tag in for updates, but while I'm doing so I might as well do some good in the world.

It's been mentioned a time or two in the last few pages of the thread, but it really cannot be emphasized enough just how good Patriot is, despite the fact that no one has ever heard of it. Seriously, it's absolutely criminal how poorly Amazon has promoted the show since it's probably the best original content on their service. You can bet your ass that if Netflix or HBO or AMC had this show, the cast and production team would be drowning in Emmys, and that you wouldn't have to spend five minutes explaining how you aren't trying to get people to watch that crappy Mel Gibson movie every time you tried to recommend it to someone.

The title is horrible, the cover image is useless, and I haven't seen a lick of promotion for it. AND ITS SO GOOD!

My hope for the ending is that everyone just leaves the poor guy alone and he gets the help he needs.

For those of you that liked Corner Gas, after we finished up the series recently I discovered there is a movie and it is also on Prime! It was an interesting watch as it was made years after the original show and everyone had visibly aged, but it had some laugh out loud moments and was like a big long episode with better production values.

For Patriot, is it more on the comedy side or the drama side?

Its mostly very very very dark comedy. I wouldn't call it a drama really. Dramatic things may happen but they're for creating the possibility of darkly funny things. The most dramatic part I think is that you'll feel for the characters.

Bosch season 5 finished. Might be my favorite season, also I need to rewatch some of the previous seasons.

Nice. I am on episode 3 and am really enjoying it.

Just started episode one. BOSCH is an immediate watch as soon as a new series arrives.

Its a series that has always surprised me, everything about it should be a turn off; not a fan of California normally or the LA culture, the lead actor has a certain smugness that has wound me up the wrong way in other shows, but I find Bosch to really solid and engaging. Music used in and around the show is great too. Highly recommended.

If you really like the show, you should definitely check out some of Connelly's books. They are super tight thrillers with amazing characters.
