NieR Automata (aka Nieronetta) Catch-All

I can only assume that the soundtrack is setup like a '90s album with a "secret song" after a few minutes of silence on the last track. Except there are, like, five secret songs.

You can only hear them if you re-listen to the album a few times, though. I'm not sure what tech they used to make that possible, but it's pretty neat.

Nothing fancy. They just copy/pasted the entire soundtrack a second, third, and fourth time. There are some small differences if you listen for them, though.

Two songs, five hour play time.
Actually, I just described Prog Rock there...

This translation on the liner notes has some pretty hilarious stuff said by Yoko Taro:

Thanks for sharing that. Love that crazy bugger.

The Flare 2B figure is finally up for preorder. There are two editions, with the special one having more outfit options and her Pod.

Both are beautiful!

Yesssssssss!

So, I've been ripping the discs tonight, and the special disc has 4 tracks listed in the liner notes but this comes up:

It's very strange. The first four tracks ripped correctly, but then it failed as of track 5. I wonder if there is some weird hidden data on the CD. Googling didn't come up with anything.

Suspicious.

Yoko would totally hide some kind of ARG inside of a $200 collector's edition that like 5 people would by. Sounds totally like him.

2B will be a new DLC character in Soulcalibur 6.

Huh.

I cried a little from happiness.
(I have the season pass).

edit: also great news, I got a new pc so I should be able to actually finish Nier Automata.
Also apparently androids have souls! This makes it official, I hope.

Just finished Route B, which I enjoyed a hell of a lot more than A. Definitely warming up to it.

It only gets more interesting from there! Usually Route B is the longest slog for people on the fence.

I decided today while I got some time to give this a second playthrough, but also figured "why not try Hard Mode?" I'm somewhere between ready to give up and just play Normal again or stubbornly go back because I was oh so close.

Enemies can deal a ton of damage in that prologue mission, starting with eating maybe half of your health. The first Razor Arm thing has at least one insta-kill attack. So at least twice I died needing to figure out Razor Arm. Other times I died due to stupid mistakes. I was nearly finished the prologue mission, when you're fighting the Goliath on foot for the first time. I failed to dodge one punch, and I didn't have time to heal or dodge before the second punch landed and killed me.

Basically, I just spent an hour trying to beat the prologue mission. I'm kind of sick of that opening segment. I cannot imagine playing this game on Very Hard, where you are instantly killed by any hit.

I might give it one more try but dang, this might just be a bit too tough for me. I'm reminded of Halo 2's Legendary mode, where people said once you got past certain parts of the opening level it became a lot more manageable. The problem was getting past those points.

Hard mode gets a lot easier further in, but yeah, the prologue is really hard. Probably the hardest section of the game actually.

My fear was that the game would only get worse, but if this is the toughest part I might be willing to push on through. I liked Normal, obviously, but I'm curious if Hard will have me choosing and swapping OS chips and my weaponry differently. I'm already far more cautious and rely more heavily on my Pod.

But dang that Goliath hits hard...

I thought hard was fun and not too punishing apart from the beginning, which definitely is.

You can kinda spam dodge to get through a lot of the tough stuff. It can get time consuming, but I always loved the feel and look of the dodge, so it never got old for me. It definitely makes you think way more about how to stack chips! You'll often sacrifice a ton of non-critical niceties just to do more damage and whatnot during certain sections.

Loved the game, rarely a fan of new game plus or even backtracking in games, but this one had me under its spell. My only bugbear was not being able to get that one irrevocable ending Y; I'd missed the point of no return and had no appropriate save to redo it; it definitely has a lifelong place on my shelf of favorites, so maybe one day I'll start over.

Nice, I'll check that out.

I'm also here to post a Nier video. It's on the less serious end of the spectrum, but still very good:

Wow, thanks for sharing. I thought it was a great review, and bonus, literally laughed out loud.

That channel is one of my favorite recent discoveries, so happy to help

Side note, is this E3 too soon for a new Yoko Taro project reveal?

I would almost be surprised if there wasn't a reveal. It's been a long time!

In my dreams, they let him make a Final Fantasy game. Most likely, it's another Drakengaard or Nier. I'm fine with that.

Personally I find it too soon for a reveal, but everyone else seems eager. I just don't know if I see a new game from him fitting the 2-3 year dev cycle a lot of people seem to expect. Then again, Drakengard 3 was 2013, four years before Nier: Automata. So if they announce now but don't launch until 2021 maybe?

Automata was revealed back in June 2015 with that concept art and a new song. The game came out in February 2017 which was crazy fast. I guess given it's been over 2 years since Automata's release, I'd think something would at least be revealed. If nothing is, maybe Yoko Taro's working on a Final Fantasy game. That would be so weird and so damn cool.

Let us not wish Taro-san retirement as a chocobo farmer, there is so much wealth to draw from between Drakenguard->Nier->Automata timelines, so much that Emil and friends must have seen and done

Started Nier this weekend. I was scared that I would die before I could save, so I turned the game on easy and turned the assists on. I am a baby.

I’m looking forward to exploring this thread when I get through a playthrough or two.

Important thing is you've begun. Sit back and enjoy!
