Rutger Bregman on universal basic income | #ANTIDOTE | Sydney Opera House

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the regular video, but erring on the side of caution. i really interesting report on what went on with the 737 MAX 8 crashes.

I'm shocked.. just shocked.. that a corporation would put profits ahead of safety. I'm sure this is all the Governments fault though.

The market will take care of it. People will start asking what kind of plane their flight is on and cancel their vacations if is a Boeing plane. This will create a huge pressure on airlines to buy different planes.

Depends on how many white people die.

Eh, I dunno. Depends on how much money the rich make. The rich don't care how many white people they get hooked on drugs: as long those are legal drugs and the drug company profits go up. The rich don't care how many white children get shot and killed: as long as white people increase gun company profits by amassing arsenals, they don't care if a couple of them go crazy and shoot up schools.

It's like rich people figured out how to be the heads of a cartel running drug and guns without risking jailtime.

That's a great and pretty accurate video, but she's got one thing wrong (well, two, but I won't go into the second). Bombs are much, much easier to obtain than guns. When you learn about improvised explosives, you realize that virtually anyone can make them, anywhere, using a wide variety of components that are readily available in your local hardware or grocery store. It's not a safe "hobby", but it's very easy to pick up. This is why bombs and IEDs are the weapons of choice around the world for people fighting on minimal resources like terrorists and insurgents.

Realistically a lot of people likely already have enough components lying about to make a smallish bomb. Most farmers probably have enough to make a rather large bomb.

Reminds me of this guy that showed people how to make bombs on the public access channel. He blew off a couple of his fingers.

Man public access channel use to be crazy. They had the nazis spreading hate. They had the porn guy that I would always see downtown. They had the guys playing rap videos. I always wondered what would happen if they met the nazi guys. They also had the atheist group that talk about how all religion is bad. Of coarse they had the christian group doing the opposite.

I guess it was early look at youtube.

Well, as we learned from 30 years of the Troubles, you can certainly make bombs easy enough. Actually placing them near your intended target and detonating them is a whole lot harder. And Columbine proves that as well. Bombing making is a skill that is highly sought after. Guns are just a whole lot easier to deal with. Helps if you have access to them as well without having to "homebrew" them.

Also, the IEDs in Iraq were at the very least supported by Iranian knowledge if not actual men on the ground. It's took the IRA years to get road side bombs working and the Iraqi insurgents were up and running in no time. As an aside, I'm still of the belief that this knowledge originates from the Troubles as there are direct links with the IRA and Iranian governments. They certainly turned up elsewhere that we know of. Seems FARC, for all their resources, were willing to pay for the IRA's knowledge, for example.

Of course, suicide bombers solves all the above problems but the the mass murders in the US can't choose that option because that's not as socially acceptable.

Oh, suicide bombing was also popularise by the IRA but what they did was worse. It's called a Tiger Kidnapping where the IRA kidnaps your family and force you under duress to commit a crime, like planting a bomb. The victim would often live but would be left with the guilt. They were, however, highly effective. And others took note of that effectiveness.

Depressing, no?

So, while yes it's a lot easier to throw some stuff in a bin and ignite then buy a gun, Columbine itself proves that it's far easier to just shoot people than to try and blow them up. So, her point is right in a practical sense.

Stand down nice NSA man who is reading this. Purely hypothetical discussion

Iraqi Quds were known to be active in training AQI in construction of IEDS (pressure plate, command det., VBIED) and EFP.

In theory, any idiot with internet access can figure out how to put an IED together. However, as Axon nicely discusses, making them effective weapons is a whole different thing.

They can be dangerous and lethal but are generally indiscriminate without training and practice.

As to the idea that IEDs or bombs are more easily obtained, that’s laughable.

You can go to virtually any gun show or, really, anywhere guns are owned or sold and purchase sophisticated hardware for cash, little to no questions asked.

Axon. Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?

How so, Badken?

We are on a public forum. I think it's safe to assume we're being monitored by, at least, some algorithm that ties what we say to our real names.

Even if it'll just be used to sell us more stuff.

Ah, sorry. Never watched the show. Still haven't started season 8 of Thrones yet. I'm quite time poor. I appreciate the banter though

And sorry for the false positive, Mister NSA Contractor.

Dammit, thanks now I won't even both to watch Star Wars since you ruined it.
