Assassin's Creed Odyssey RPG-all

I am pretty excited to finish this story line in the new DLC. Although based on past games there is a solid chance we're not getting a 100% happy ending I still want to see where this goes.

Had to turn things down a bit from the streaming version to get a good frame rate. Still looks good though.

Getting better with fighting but I'm not completely in the zone yet. I think other games have corrupted my thought process on combats. No backstabbing, no coup de grace after a parry, no big move on stunned guys. Combat just feels a little off compared to skyrim heavily modded and dark souls. Note I'm only level 8 and just got the ship. Once I get some more skills maybe it feel better.

One thing I do like that I just found out about is you can make your gear look like any other gear. I thought I had wasted some of that free store credit on a outfit that was now to weak to wear. However, I can just make my new gear to look like it.

One thing I hate is having one button do multiple things based on how long you press the button. I have a mouse with a billion buttons and a keyboard with a billion buttons. Make stuff for the PC not console ports.

One fun moment. I was in a little nook or corner. I stealth kill someone but the guards gets alerted. I go back into my corner and proceed to stealth kill four more dudes by repeatedly popping out from the nook and going back in. I know I saw her around her. No you didn't you only seen death.

One bad moment. I commanded my dudes to board a ship but none of them followed me over. I had to murder them all by myself. I guess I'm not understanding ship combat at the moment.

The hold down button longer is on purpose not because it’s a console “port”. You get a significant multiplier for the critical Assasination but the risk is it takes longer to execute. The same with dodge and dodge roll.

I guess I'll post this here, because it came free with the AC Odyssey season pass...

Assassin's Creed III Remastered is out now, and it is godawful. I was going to make a video like this, but someone else did it for me. There was supposedly a day 1 patch that made things look better, but the game looks exactly like this video for me on PC and PS4.

Do not buy Assassin's Creed III Remastered.

Are we sure they didn't accidentally switch the "Original" and "Remastered" tags in that video? The "Remastered" version looks worse in almost every instance except for some shadows on the ship and one time where the skybox is nicer.
Those faces are....haunting.

Luckily I'm getting the remaster for "free" with the season pass. Hopefully they improved the gameplay, since I understand III is one of the most disliked games in the franchise because of it.

Side note: Odyssey is my first AC game and I'm loving it. Over 20 hours in and level 16.

They did the exact same thing with the previous remasters. It is nearly impressive at this point.

Old game + lighting. Then increase saturation. What could possibly go wrong.

Nope. It really is that bad. I went back and played the first sequence of the original after playing the first sequence in the remaster. The remaster is just shockingly bad. Lighting and shadows are completely messed up. The most astounding thing to me was that the interior of the ship during Haytham's crossing has no internal shadows whatsoever. None.

Look under the table and stools here.

Here the post casts no shadow, nor the table on the left, nor anything in the doctor's area on the right.

Oh hi there, my first AC game too! I'm about 50h in now. Please allow me to give you one tip the internet doesn't want you to know: don't stick to any one place for too long, keep moving on. (Only applicable if you have completionist tendencies like I do)

Well, move on after you do all the gold quests. The side activity stuff you can safely skip. Though watch out for the markers that look like a silver V, those are worth doing.

Good tip. I'm starting to realize that the side activities are totally skippable unless I just really want to up my experience level....which isn't all that useful since enemies and lower level quests level with me.

I'm trying not to repeat my recent Saints Row the Third "mistake" where I finished most of the side activities and reached max levels by the time I was 1/3 through the story.

Do those stone tablet clues show up as quests? I've been ignoring them thinking they will unlock a quest maker but since they spent so much time making them like riddles I'm thinking I should have been looking for them on my own.

No, you have to just keep an eye out for what the tablets are referring to.

Yeah they're not quests more like textual treasure maps. Solve the clue and get some goodies.

If you like the exploring, they added several level scaling options you might want to play around with. This is separate from the overall difficulty level chosen.

Made it to Chapter 6 this weekend, and level 40.

I think they finally made an Assassins's Creed game that's just too big. Or, at least, it's the first in the series to break my completionist tendencies. You could try to sweep through every area and clear every icon, but it's like eating a giant bowl of M&M's. All you end up with is a stomachache and lingering regret. It's telling that in Origins, the achievement for clearing the map is called Old Habits. That was just foreshadowing for Odyssey's drastically increased scope. Thank goodness they're not releasing a new entry this year.

The overarching story is feeling a little stretched at the moment, but the individual quest lines are still enjoyable, and there's still fun to be had meeting historical characters like Hippokrates, Sokrates, and Herodotus.

I'm not sure if it was added as part of a patch or by the DLC, but they added an ability that makes assassinated enemies' bodies disappear and it's trivialized the stealth now. For a while, forts were nicely intimidating due to the time it takes to work you way through them and complete the objectives without alerting the entire garrison. Now I'm an avenging demon slaughtering everyone and leaving little trace.

Yeah, I agree that it's just too big. I really like this game a lot! But after, I dunno, 35 hours, with countless more story missions and cultists and other big objectives to go, I just got exhausted with it. I do want to come back at some point and get closer to finishing it, but it's not only so big that 100%'ing it isn't reasonable, it's really so big that even completing the main story seems like too much. I imagine Ubi developers would be irritated to hear a complaint of "less content, please" but it's true. Too much value in this package!

Just had a big patch or maybe they are all big but it added loadouts. I was surprised that wasn't in from the start.

Yeah, to be clear, I like this game! And the series as a whole. I love when a new Assassins's Creed comes out.

Maybe the intention is for players to just dip in and out when the mood strikes. Play a region, do a quest or two, tackle that cultist on your map. Play something else for a while, then come back. That's certainly how I've been playing it, without meaning to. Maybe they finally made a single player game with the same stickiness as a multiplayer game? There's certainly the feeling that everything you do in the game goes down really smoothly. There's barely any friction to any individual activity, and there's always some goal to work toward. They're constantly putting things in your path to distract you from the "main" quest.

Kassandra is a charming protagonist, but she's also kind of empty. The search for her family lacks urgency and the role-playing choices boil down to how horny or greedy you want to be. This also makes it easy to dip in and out of the game, because the characterization isn't deep enough to feel like you're forgetting anything when you come back to the game after a hiatus.

Thanks for the tip. I adjusted it for the Kalydonian Boar, since that fight was getting frustrating.

I assumed that skill was part of the skill tree all along. I picked it up around level 18 (22 now) and have loved it. Lately the forts have become fairly samey, so I was glad to not have to do the "kill guard at point X, carry body to nearby bushes, set back up near point X, wait for next guard to wander to point X....repeat" - loop.

It's been a productive few days. I've now met both

mom and dad

and have spent several hours down in the southern regions of Pephka and Messara. I also made a point to rank up nearly to the top of the mercenary tiers. Only two mercenaries left - one in an area I haven't explored yet, and the level 50 top dog that I'll get to once I have a couple more levels. I blasted through nearly all of the arena, and just have the level 50 champion left.

Pephka and Messara will definitely go down one of the more memorable areas of the game. Everything surrounding the minataur stuff has been either funny or interesting. I'm close to getting what I need to unlock the door under Knossos Palace, and I suppose that'll be my first mythical boss fight. I wasn't crazy about them in Origins, so we'll see how it goes here.

The boss fights are brutal, but the Minotaur is one of the easier ones. Just dodge your ass off and

Spoiler: build tip

rework your build to do massive ranged damage

and you'll be fine. Fortunately it's easy and relatively cheap to customize your build for any encounter or mission (including those annoying Artemis beasts!).

You had me worried, but at least in the case of the Minotaur, it was pretty trivial. The fully tricked out Hero Strike assassination ability would take out large chunks of his health. Same with the overpower attack. Huge pauses in his attacks let me get in and poison him frequently, while building up my adrenaline again. Also several of his attacks seemed to do very little damage, and I'm not sure why. I had collected a couple pieces of Theseus' armor, but I wasn't wearing any of it like the quests leading up to it made me think I'd need to.

Looking forward to having my overconfidence punished in the next boss fight.

Yeah this.. for all the bosses it seemed the overpowered Hunter/Ranged builds are the way to go.. in fact once I realized that a good Range build is ridiculous it made the entire game trivial.. even the toughest merc's go down with a few shots before they can even get near you.

As beanman101283 said, Hero Strike and high power generation makes bosses pretty trivial too. Just need to dodge some attacks, get in a few strikes to generate power, then Hero Strike. There are a few different ways to make the game incredibly easy, though.

Still amazed by how much content there is. Got to Kythera, one of the smaller islands in the southwestern part of the map. I expected it to not take much time. Instead, I spent hours tracking down a cultist, finding a legendary animal, getting another artifact from a mythical boss fight, along with other miscellaneous side quests.

I can start the Legacy of the Hidden Blade DLC, and I basically still have the entire upper right portion of the map to uncover. I have something like 3 or 4 cultists up in that area waiting for me to get to. Any recommendations for when I should start the DLC, or does it not really matter? I'm wondering if I should make a point of going after those cultists before the DLC, or just wait until later.

Yeah, that was a surprising trailer. I was not expecting that at all. Now I'm hyped!

I got goose bumps!

So it's AC Odyssey's version of Origins' Curse of the Pharaohs. That was fantastic and this looks really good.

It's a shame the main game is so long. I have no draw to play any of the DLC. 150 hours completing everything and it should have been edited down from that.

For the last several sessions I have been turning off all map icons except for historical locations and I don’t track the quests to get an icon. Also, I’ve refrained from using the eagle. For the most part I enjoy playing this way quite a bit more. The world feels much more engaging. I had to scan the terrain as I walked around to find the marshy area and then search for the pig. When entering a fort, I can’t just tag everyone and play follow the icons, seeing people through walls, etc. I just have to pay attention to the world much more.

Now for the negative. It makes an already long game take even longer. I just have a difficult time staying as interested in the game. I think if I continue playing this way I’m just going to burn out, but if I don’t play this way it’s going to revert back to a game where I just run from icon to icon, hoovering up quests and such along the way.

My guess is that I’ll probably start playing with the icons on, but I can imagine how good the game could be if it were designed to play without those things.
