The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild Catch All

Ok... Now I just feel like an eejit for big-ing up my journey through Trial of the Sword so much... I went straight into the Final Trials after the Middle ones and ended up beating it on my first try. So turns out I was right to think that the Beginning ones would be the hardest. I've made a number of attempts to beat the Beginning Trials and always gave up because I wasn't making progress. In the last week alone I put 10-15 hours into the them before I finally beat them. Then I beat the Middle and Final Trials in about four hours... Anyway, it doesn't take from the sense of achievement that I get from having finally done them. In my experience, these Trials in Master Mode are as hard as Zelda gets. (Apart from maybe Zelda II without save states...) I'm really proud of myself for having gotten through them, and running around Master Mode with a permanently powered-up Master Sword is awesome! :D

Congrats! I wouldn't say you were silly to big-up your journey. You probably got through the second two trials because you hit the first so hard and skilled up!

I just recently fired up BotW again, but on the switch this time instead of the WiiU. I’m realizing that it is probably going to be one of those perennial games that dust off and play every few years. This was the last big capital-G Game that I played before my second daughter was born, and even though it’s only/already been two years since then, playing it again is taking me back to that time in my life in a really interesting way. And I’m blown away again by how fantastic this game is.

This also gives me the opportunity to again remind my kids that Link is not Zelda

So you know that Labo VR thing Nintendo is coming out with for people who want to dabble in VR for $40? Well you can also just play Breath of the Wild in VR with it if you want to.

Well damn. That's either the worst idea ever or it's going to get me to do a full playthrough again. I was on the fence about picking up the blaster VR kit just for curiosity's sake. This might get me to give it a try.

Nice, like they added the steering handles support to Mario Kart.

Have you noticed any differences between the two platforms?

You can play one outside the house

I'm not chixor7, but I played Breath of the Wild on both platforms. I put about 40 hours into the game on Wii U and 80 or so on Switch. The biggest difference between the two are resolution and frame rate, with the Wii U chugging a bit in places like Kakariko Village. Otherwise, I honestly couldn't tell a difference between them.

Nice. I've only played it on Switch, but my friend has only played on WiiU and I'm wondering how hard I should convince them to double dip. Sounds like not worth it.

Speaking as someone who did double-dip, you're probably right. The game really is excellent on the Wii U.

I double-dipped because I saw the game on sale slightly and I had a friend who was about to be laid up for a month recovering from foot surgery, so I largely bought the copy to loan to him.

Yeah, as others have echoed, I have not really noticed any differences in performance between the two (granted, it has been 2 years and a baby since then). I played it on WiiU first because I didn’t have a Switch at the time. I put in an unseemly amount of hours on the WiiU, and my husband did a full playthrough on the Switch once we got it. It plays great on both.

And both work equally well as a handheld when the TV is occupied with Daniel Tiger, though the screen is superior on the Switch.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever beat this. I mostly enjoy the shrines. I'm not great at the combat. Last weekend I beat the last of the Great Beasts and headed straight for Gannon. Big mistake. I don't have enough hearts yet to slog through all those Guardians. Nor am I good enough at combatting them. Any tips?

Should I grind for rupee and ancient cores to buy better armor and weapons?

I'd just grind shrines for hearts. You should get decent weapons from them, plus you already have the weapons from beating the great beasts. I would definitely not worry about buying weapons.

Good luck!

Practice shield parrying to reflect their shots. Tip: get to the distance that they stand still and when you hear the noise, press the parry button. Other than that, get in close and slice the legs off. And if all else fails, an ancient arrow will one shot guardians. My first suggestion is a requirement to beating Ganon, though.

Yeah, once you can reliably parry, the guardians are trivial. Rather than the sound, I used the bright flash of light as my signal to hit the parry button.

I alternately tried going off both visual and sound cues, and I never did get the hang of parrying guardian beams. I managed to beat the game handily. I handled the guardians by running like a mofo, going for the legs when I could, and giving myself permission to actually use Ancient Arrows from time to time instead of just hoarding them. I still had to fall back on the shield champion power a bit, but I was successful enough with other approaches that I didn't usually have a problem with it being on cooldown.

IIRC, once I defeated the last of the great beasts, I made my way to Gannon mostly by just dodging past the guardians. I don't think I defeated more than 4 or 5 the whole game.

For the amount of ancient cores (small ones, I had more giant ones, for some reason) I got, you'd think that's what I did. Beat them every which way, and almost hardly ever got them to drop. Watched my wife beat some guardians and get cores almost every time. I was quite upset that RNG was against me the whole time I played.

145 hours into this game and I just now realized that you can hit the mineral deposits with a hammer. I'd always blown them up with bombs, leading to many gem chases as they (and me) went off of cliffs. Hit 'em with a hammer and the goods just drop to the ground.

It also damages the hammer, though after 145 hours you might just have figured out where you can get replacements.

Ha! I think I only ever used bombs.

Not just a hammer - pretty much everything, though it'll blunt your swords right quick.

To be fair to the hammers and the rocks, you can blunt the fricken master sword on a small pack of basic moblins. Apparently in this version of hyrule the smith's guild is INCREDIBLY corrupt and incompetent

This goes for anything that's harvestable after damage. Use a sharp item to cut trees, axes are best. While a hammer will do the job, it will cost you more durability than a sharp item. Using the right tool for the job is more effective.

I hate it when I'm tapping in a nail, miss the head, and hit the floor / wall instead. Might as well just throw the hammer away at that point

Just finished this game. Loved it. The ending was mehish..... but overall very satisfied.
Looking forward to the sequel.

I will now graduallly every now and then work on the DLCs

Well, at any rate, you can respawn Amiibo stuff each day, so you can get that item back.
