Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

I have deleted the Ubisoft Assassin's Creed 3 Remaster video I had posted here. Now that I have had a chance to play it, it is definitely NOT a "random thing I love." I can not in good conscience suggest that anyone consider buying it.

Wow. I truly don’t understand how somebody thought that was a good idea to push out. Were they trying to save specs so it would run on the switch?

Lindsay Ellis was nominated for a Hugo award.

Angry Internet Men are complaining that Redlettermedia was never nominated for a Hugo award.

I know it isn't the point, but RedLetterMedia never went to the depth of either critical theory or on-the-ground interviews that Lindsay Ellis did for just one of those videos.

There's a vast difference between "I think this thing is cool" and "I think this thing is significant" and it looks like the Hugo nominators agree with me.

No, that's exactly the point. Very few movie essayists on YouTube take a serious, scholarly approach to their videos. Ellis' Hobbit series in particular is more like a professionally produced full length documentary than a YouTube video series. Nothing Redlettermedia has done comes close, even the Star Wars prequel critiques. They make some valid points, but the popularity of those videos is based more on pandering than anything else.

And here I thought it was her lack of rape jokes that garnered her acclaim.

Got to have a good moment at McDonald's today. I'm on good terms with many of the employees there , and I was waiting for my hashbrowns to cook ( I was the only one waiting), so I told my buddy (He is African American, not terribly important but it makes the end of the story make a little more sense) to let them cook the whole way. For reference, many people in my area hate having actual hashbrowns, so they make the people take them out as early as 45 seconds before they're finished, or they will actually leave their car in the drive thru lane and demand that the hashbrowns are re cooked in front of them. So my buddy and I were joking around as they were finishing cooking, and after he pulled them out and commented that they were cooked really well, I looked at him and I forget what exactly I said but it was obvious I was referencing the PITA people who don't like proper hashbrowns and I said "God Dammit white people", and he looked around for a moment or two and let out the biggest laugh I have heard in months. It's the start of a good day.

Heh! Nice.

Reminds me a bit of back when I was a student worker at a local community college. The other student workers were giving our supervisor, who was African-American, a hard time because he didn't know how to swim. When I walked in at the start of my shift they (three white girls) were like "Hey can you believe it Eddie doesn't know how to swim." To which I immediately responded "Of course Eddie can't swim... he's from Texas." Which got a lot of laughs and a hug from Eddie. We will run into each other from time to time as he works at the same university I do (different campus than before).

Continuation of the really good day: Found some Maple Creams that I haven't had since I went to Vermont on a frequent basis to visit my grand parents (coming up on ten years). Got a box and they are just as good as I remembered. Buttery cookies with a nice smooth (natural) maple flavor. Got to game with some friends I haven't seen in a while as well. Only way this could be better is if I win anything on tonight's lottery. This is probably the best day I've had since the beginning of the year. Edit: should clarify that they are like a light shortbread cookie with a maple flavored cream, not maple flavored cookies, though that would also be acceptable if done right.

Last night I watched the movie At Eternities Gate. Its the recent Van Gogh biopic. Goddam! It was good.

Some people would say, “It’s one of those movies where nothing happens.” So if you’re not a fan of those I would skip it. By that I mean that much of the story is told visually rather than through dialogue. And there’s no car chases and nothing explodes. There are some meaningful visual effects that never explained, too.

Sweet, what brand hilt is that?

He got it from Vader's Vault! They have been a great company to buy stuff from. Avoid SaberForge if you can!

Vader's Vault was my guess, as they make some great looking stuff, albeit expensive.
Too late I already have a Saber Forge, why should they be avoided?

They are a really scummy company. They lie all the time about their production schedule and keep people in production limbo. And then they act like total assholes on social media. There was a discussion on their Facebook fan page that my BF was involved in and because the owner didn't like what my BF said despite being totally inocuous, he banned him. And he acted like a total petulant child about it. Also, their build quality just isn't that great. One of the sabers he ordered from them had a totally fault sound system and he had to pay to ship it back to have it fixed, which is BS.

We actually had to do a chargeback on them the second time we ordered from them. What was supposed to be a 6-week production schedule ended up taking 7 months and the only reason they sent it was because of the chargeback. And they did a similar thing with the previous saber. We wised up the second time, though, and gave them a fat lip monetarily. Not only did we get our money back from the bank, we also got the saber since they sent it with just two days to not automatically be chargebacked. They got the chargeback anyway given the egregious circumstances. We ended up selling the saber. We weren't going to return it after they dicked us so much.

That doesn’t surprise me, I picked mine up at a Comic Con several years ago. Even the people running the booth at the cons lack in “customer service”.

Another company I recommend is Kyberlight, as they are local and have been really great with donating lightsabers for my group (Saber Guild) to give away.

Kyberlight, huh? I'll ask BF about them. He may know about them, but if he doesn't, great! Always good to know of more good saber makers out there for him to enjoy.

Kyberlight sounds like a sex toy company.

They're multifunctional toys.

Just use caution -- I'm not seeing anything that would resemble an effective base, and as the old adage goes, "without a base, without a trace."

I'm not up on Expanded Universe lore, but I assume there have been several Jedis-in-training over the years that were lost to erroneous activation of light saber while using it for "Academy-non-approved purposes."

Related, pommel goes in first. Safety first, perverts!

Weird medical stories always make me happy.

Nobody cares about this, but the silly DC Comics mobile game I play finally had Constantine on sale. I've been saving F2P "gems" for over 6 months waiting for this, because he's not available anywhere else in the game. He's a straight-up paid exclusive.

And now I have a nice shiny Legend 4 Constantine and I'm really happy. Today is awesome.

Behold!

I never thought I'd enjoy a mobile game so much. But it's been 2 years+ of daily playing, and I never get sick of it. It's an absolute celebration of DC Comics, with even the weirdest characters having their time to shine.

Congratulations, Unicycle! Here's to many good days with Constantine.
