[Discussion] Hope to Remember The Trump Administration Thread as being 'transparent and honest'

Let's follow and discuss what our newest presidential administration gets up to, the good, the bad, the lawsuits, and the many many indictments.

Woah, woah, woah. I don't think this section of the forum is the appropriate place for something so volatile and controversial.

I tried to like this post and the site went down.

And the only words that won't be blacked out will be the ones Barr quoted in his summary memo.

So Trump's thing is we need a wall at the border because the majority of the drugs and illegals come in over the undefended portions, not ports of entry. The only way to stop them is a massive wall, nothing else will work.

So if that's the case, what good will shutting the border do? The criminals will keep coming over in between the ports of entry, and the legal traffic will be stopped.

I mean, obviously I'm thinking more about this than he has,but it's just so goddamn stupid.

Media is so cowardly. This morning NBC said "Trump mischaracterized death of immigrant girl.". No, he f*cking lied like he always lies. Stop using other words and call the liar what he is.

Falsehood, spoke in error, $%#@ news (Trump has forever ruined the English word for faux for me), misstatement, untruths, controversial, deceit(ful), aspersion, dishonest, distortion(of the truth), myth, inaccuracy, fib

Anything but calling him a liar and calling out his lies immediately and directly...

Last night he announced that he's cutting off all direct assistance funding to the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

In December the State Department had pledged $5.8 billion in public and private money to help politically and economically stabilize those countries to help reduce the flow of migrants to America (the Triangle Countries make up the bulk of migrants reaching our southern border).

Trump's reasoning yesterday was "we’re not paying them anymore because they haven’t done a thing for us."

So now he's punishing countries for not preventing their citizens from fleeing to America, which will do nothing but cause more people to flee. But I guess he's OK with that because cutting off funding makes him look tough to his racist base and will increase the flow of migrants, which he can then sell to his base as an invasion of America.

I can't get over how many of the administration's policies are directly sabotaging the things that they claim to want.

Of course, the president literally doesn't believe in the concept that two parties can both come out ahead from a deal, despite that being kind of fundamental to economics working at all. If he's not cheating someone, he thinks he lost.

The day North Korea talks collapsed, Trump passed Kim a note demanding he turn over his nukes

CNBC wrote:

On the day that their talks in Hanoi collapsed last month, U.S. President Donald Trump handed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a piece of paper that included a blunt call for the transfer of Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and bomb fuel to the United States, according to the document seen by Reuters.

Trump gave Kim both Korean and English-language versions of the U.S. position at Hanoi’s Metropole hotel on Feb. 28, according to a source familiar with the discussions, speaking on condition of anonymity. It was the first time that Trump himself had explicitly defined what he meant by denuclearization directly to Kim, the source said.

A lunch between the two leaders was canceled the same day. While neither side has presented a complete account of why the summit collapsed, the document may help explain it.

The document’s existence was first mentioned by White House national security advisor John Bolton in television interviews he gave after the two-day summit. Bolton did not disclose in those interviews the pivotal U.S. expectation contained in the document that North Korea should transfer its nuclear weapons and fissile material to the United States.

The document appeared to represent Bolton’s long-held and hardline “Libya model” of denuclearization that North Korea has rejected repeatedly. It probably would have been seen by Kim as insulting and provocative, analysts said.

...

After the summit, a North Korean official accused Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of “gangster-like” demands, saying Pyongyang was considering suspending talks with the United States and may rethink its self-imposed ban on missile and nuclear tests.

The English version of the document, seen by Reuters, called for “fully dismantling North Korea’s nuclear infrastructure, chemical and biological warfare program and related dual-use capabilities; and ballistic missiles, launchers, and associated facilities.”

Aside from the call for the transfer of Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and bomb fuel, the document had four other key points.

It called on North Korea to provide a comprehensive declaration of its nuclear program and full access to U.S. and international inspectors; to halt all related activities and construction of any new facilities; to eliminate all nuclear infrastructure; and to transition all nuclear program scientists and technicians to commercial activities.

Calling it the "Libya model" is a pretty terrible way to sell it to Kim, given what happened to el-Qaddafi. But Bolton has made no secret of his position, even though it pretty much completely undermined the negotiations.

So maybe when he said Mexico would pay for the wall he wasn't being specific about which Mexican country he meant?

Not to mention that those countries are in dire situations specifically because of things the US did to them.

Can we get him to say Mxyzptlk (kltpzyxm) now?

White House Whistleblower Tells All On Trump Administration Security Clearance

A Trump official has come forward with major concerns about security at the White House, according to a House Oversight and Reform Committee report.

Tricia Newbold, the adjudications manager in the Personnel Security Office, came forward with what the committee is calling “grave breaches of national security” at the White House that she has witnessed over the past two years, including 25 individuals who were allowed security clearance despite recommendations that their applications be denied.

“I would not be doing a service to myself, my country, or my children if I sat back knowing that the issues that we have could impact national security,” Newbold told the committee, according to a letter from Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) to the White House counsel to the president.

The whistleblower’s report highlights the Trump White House’s inability to attract top-level talent. Previous administrations, both Republican and Democratic, were seen as prestigious places to work, giving hiring managers large numbers of applicants for every position and letting them screen out candidates with dubious work histories.

But highly qualified Republicans have largely avoided Trump administration jobs for fear that working for Trump would hurt their reputations and careers. Republicans who dislike Trump disparage many of those working at the White House and in top agency jobs as “C and D list” staffers who would never have been able to find work in a normal GOP administration.

....the crazed and incompetent Mayor of San Juan have done such a poor job of bringing the Island back to health. 91 Billion Dollars to Puerto Rico, and now the Dems want to give them more, taking dollars away from our Farmers and so many others. Disgraceful!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 2, 2019

$91B is a lie. Nobody knows where Trump came up with that number.

According to the Washington Post, FEMA has spent $5B on debris removal, road repairs, and restoring power. HUD has been *approved* to spend less than $10B, but has not even spent all of the $1.5B they were originally authorized last summer.

So... $91B is off by at least an order of magnitude.

Also, Puerto Rico is not "them." Puerto Ricans are US. Americans.

He likes making up numbers. Ask the NFL. Or Deutche Bank.

Isn’t 90B the GDP of Puerto Rico?

The problem is that his cult will believe it and disproving it doesn't help.

They don't care if he is lying. He feeds their already set perceptions that brown people are getting tons of their money.

(and don't for a second believe that if this was a largely white area the conversation would be completely different - f*ck just look at the response to Iowa's disaster declarations)

He's adding the highest possible estimates going out over 20+ years and saying it's being spent now, per the WaPo fact checkers. It's not *quite* a lie while still managing to be completely inaccurate BS.

No, it is a lie.

If I say I am a millionaire and I do not have a million dollars it is a lie. It doesn't become true because you assume my current income until 72, and all my retirement funds - and assume the best return on those. That doesn't make me a millionaire.

Some day I might be but it is a lie now

What he said is a lie.
