Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Catch All

Thanks for the links. All four of those were really interesting. I was surprised to learn how the Czech fencing/swordfighting scene was nearly dead until recently.

Now I'll never respect the "test of strength" type sword clashes (typically with dialogue between the opponents) in movies and games ever again

I'm about 2/3s through the main quests based on the number of quests I saw. I have to say it's not gripping me like some. I'm starting to get a bit bored with the story and running around. I just find it a bit slow and skewed too heavily towards non gameplay elements. I can see how this can be a plus for some, but not so much for me and I usually like fairly heavy story games.

!!!! spoilers, by the by!!!

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is getting a 'Royal Edition' in May that'll include all of the game's DLC.

The final expansion, A Woman's Lot, is yet to be released, but that'll apparently also be part of the package.

Kingdom Come currently has four additional adventures: Treasures of the Past, From the Ashes, The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon, and Band of Bastards. Naturally, all of these will be included in the Royal Edition when it launches on the 28th May

I really like this game! Yeah, it has some flaws, but for a first major outing from a developer, it is quite a treat. My biggest issue is that having to hold shift with my pinky is causing some serious nerve issues. But that isn't unique to this game.

Recommend using something like autohotkey or a mouse macro program to help with that. Especially for single player games. Have to be careful on MP games because it can sometimes be against their ToS.

Thanks, ranalin buddy! I'll look into that. Stupid nerves!

I really think this game is terrific. I love the world, the story, the gameplay, etc. It's buggy and rough around the edges, but considering how ambitious this game is and how an unknown studio managed to create this diamond in the rough is just...beyond words. This is what I like. This right here. I respect what they accomplished and how they did it.

A lot of people seem to have trouble with the combat system, but I love it. It's bloody and visceral and rewards skill. Some of my favorite games are Monster Hunter: World and the Dark Souls games, so I like games that reward investment and skill. And this game definitely does. You start as a nobody and you suck like nobody's business, but through time and effort you grow into become a formidable person.

This is what has KCD consistently as a potential next purchase. The combat system looks so appealing.

The combat system is great, but it takes some practice to get the hang of it ... which conveniently you can do early in the game by practicing with the arms master guy (I forget his name).

I *really* enjoyed what i've played of KCD so far, but I hit a point and stage of the story that just got me really bogged down and I ended up taking a break.

It is! Just beware that various combat abilities are unlocked in a really early part of the story along with a another coming later on as you get better. The combat really opens up then. It's really beautifully animated combat, too, especially as you and your enemy engage in chained attacks, ripostes, feints, and clinching.

I am gonna have to put this game down due to my hands. I've made it halfway through, but the persistent nerve issues are just getting to be too much unfortunately. And playing with a controller doesn't seem like the best setup. Sucks as I was enjoying it.

I just can't get over the save system in this game. I would really like to give it a shot, but the whole save potion thing... ugh! [shudder]

There's a mod that removes the save game 'issue' - or maybe it just gives you loads of the potions, I cant remember. Personally while I thought it was a terrible idea, I haven't actually found myself in many situations where it was a problem. not far in to the game, money is easy enough to come by that you can just buy a few whenever you need them. The game also saves when you sleep, when you exit the game, or automatically at certain points in quests etc.

Yeah, there's a mod that allows quick-save. I wouldn't have played the game without it, to be honest.

Oh, man. I LOVE the lack of quick-saving -- it makes the consequences of a failed attempt at anything so much better. Rarely does failure result in an end-game state, and I adore rogue-likes (and permadeath) systems just enough for this to really hum for me.

Different folks, strokes, etc...

And, to be fair, getting Saviour Schnapps is ridiculously easy and cheap as you get deeper into the game.

So this is currently £10 on PSN. I’m somewhat interested but what was the verdict on the PS4 port? Worth that?

Is it weird I have no problem with the save system? Need to save? Sleep in my bed. Away from bed? Drink some schnapps. Getting low on schnapps? Make some more. Boom free alchemy xp.

it didn't particularly bother me either. i never was in ap lace where i felt like i needed to save but couldn't, it just meant i couldn't quicksave every 15 steps like i might do in skyrim

The Skyrim comparisons are another odd thing to me. That game seems worlds apart to this.

Yeah it is nothing like Skyrim it is more like Dark Souls. Or if it was a tv show it would be like Game of Thrones.

Skyrim is a fantasy game. KCD is a 15th century life sim.

There is still some fantastic elements involved, particularly in the creators concept of what the 15th century Bavarian population looked like, but I don't want to reopen that can of worms.

I just said skyrim because it is also a first person story driven combat game w swords and bows. They are at least genre adjacent.

Decided to pick this back up after putting down the immensely disappointing Cyberpunk 2077.

KCD is so good, though. I'm sad I didn't beat it last time due to my nerve issues; however, this time I'm playing with just a controller, so I should be able to do it. It has already grabbed me again and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead!

Finished KCD yesterday, looking forward to the obviously hinted at sequel. The combat and questing is great, but it is in the depiction of a peculiar timeframe in such an inmersive way the thing that really stands out for me here.
