I honestly have no words... I mean I do have words, but they’re all bad.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said Tuesday that the solution to climate change is having more babies.

In a speech delivered on the Senate floor, Lee argued that climate change would be solved not by laws but by innovation, and that innovation will come from having more people.

Ridiculous! Humans cause major climate change issues, so...lets continue to overpopulate and make more humans to cause even more climate change issues!

The utter stupidity of these people is insane. The R next to their names must stand for "Reason-less".

To be fair, he is from Utah. I think “more babies” is their solution to just about anything.

Is it wrong to assume he really means more /white/ babies?

Ha, ha, of course it's not.

LOL good point.

I’m struggling at posting an article link but I saw charges were dropped against Jussie Smollet.

The whole incident seemed odd but I’m happy for him and I’m sure he feels vindicated. I suspect something fishy with the Chicago PD made this a no win for the prosecution, likely a police cover up to hurt a gay, black man. It seemed strange that he would fake this story and now I think it’s pretty clear that he didn’t.

The whole story is so 2019 that I've given up and accepted that we just live in a weird, weird world.

Has Aetius tried to blame the Boeing disaster on government regulation yet? If not, here’s some bait:

They didn’t buy the DLC: feature that could’ve prevented 737 crashes was sold as an option

This is why when I buy a plane, I always get the season pass.

Except he clearly did fake it.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel took issue with Jussie Smollett telling reporters earlier that he was innocent, while "still running down the Chicago Police Department."

"How dare him? How dare him?" Rahm said.

"This is a person now who has been let off scot-free with no sense of accountability of the moral and ethical wrong of his actions," Emanuel said.

He admonished Smollett for "using hate crime laws that are on the books to protect people who are minorities from violence" only to "turn around and use those laws to advance your career and financial reward."

"Is there no decency in this man?" the mayor said.

I don’t always buy the season pass but I do buy the extended warranty and coverage plan.

I am usually pretty good with my stuff but one time I loaned out my Airbus to my youngest brother. He wrecked out the whole thing and Geek Squad replaced it with the newest model, no questions asked.

I don't see anything on that page that conclusively proves anything. The state dropped the charges, so they either didn't have enough evidence, or had evidence of police actions that would have torpedoed the case. Records are sealed now, so unless they were there on the night in question, nobody can say what happened.

Even the person responsible for dropping the charges admits he was guilty.

Jussie Smollett's lawyer, Rahm Emanuel fired up about case on 'Good Morning America'

USA Today article wrote:

Joe Magats, State's Attorney Kim Foxx's first deputy assigned the case after Foxx recused herself because she had contact with the Smollett family, told CBS News he sides with police.

"So you believe he's guilty?" asked correspondent Adriana Diaz, in a segment shown Wednesday on "CBS This Morning."

"Yes," Magats quickly replied.

"Our priority is violent crimes and the drivers of violence," he added, explaining why he dropped the charges. "Jussie Smollett is neither one of those."

Magats also said he feels community service and the $10,000 bond money (10 percent of $100,000) Smollett is forfeiting that will be given to the city is enough to make things right.

Then why all this bullsh*t? What does Chicago or the State of Illinois or the State’s Attorney office gain by this?

Dropping the charges by saying, "we've got bigger things to worry about" while publicly insisting that the guy is still guilty... doesn't really convince me that you've got a good case against him and that I should believe you over him.

I reference the simsons Skinner aurora bit going around lately...

"You've got a ton of evidence that he's definite;y guilty?"
"Yes"
"Can I see any of it?"
"no"

He really should have had William Barr look over the case and write a memo. It works for trump to be completely exonerated of all wrongdoing for all time.

At this point, I'm not sure we're ever going to find out what the truth is. Whatever information comes out, there are going to be people who doubt it. It'll mostly come down to who you trust less. Which should be enough that no one will use it as an example, but I'm going to have internet arguments try to throw it in my face for the next decade.

So that unanimous support for fully, publicly, releasing the Mueller report was bullsh*t?

The stakes are slightly different. In one case a counterintelligence investigation might have proof that the president isn’t working in the interest of the country he serves.

Gremlin wrote:

Er, I should clarify: I don't think we'll get good answers about the Chicago PD and Jussie Smollett. The Muller Report is still up in the air. I don't know that even if we get the released report that we'll be all that happy with it. (Particularly if it is significantly redacted.) But we've got a better shot at figuring out the big picture there, if only because a number of the people involved couldn't figure out how to delete emails and text messages.

Someone who recused themselves believing he's guilty isn't the same as "admitting" he was guilty.

Remember, this is Chicago. We aren’t talking about the heights of judicial propriety and governmental integrity. There is money to be made here.

That should streamline our justice system: if the white prosecutor thinks the black guy is guilty then he's actually guilty. I mean who needs a time-consuming trial that just wastes taxpayer's money?

I just can't fathom a system in which the cops and prosecution think a suspect is guilty.

Sarcasm? I mean that is their jobs.

Now OG_slinger said "if the prosecutor thinks the black guy is guilty then he's actually guilty" which is a lot different.

Like farley said, it's their job to seek convictions. That seems to override justice in many cases.

Watch "Making a Murderer" or any number of forensics shows that overturn a conviction based on DNA evidence. I challenge you to find a single instance where the prosecutor ever changed their position.

This is incredibly disingenuous.

He was indicted on 16 felony counts by a grand jury.

Between this and the Trump “exoneration”, things seem pretty bleak in this country when people are only interested in truth when it fits their agenda.

OH! You know what, this makes me think: it was a Pro-Life dogwhistle, wasn't it? It's a riff on the whole "what if the baby you aborted would have grown up to cure cancer?" line.

IL has a specific "Offender Initiative Program" that sounds like it fits this situation. I haven't seen if it has been, or needs to be, specifically announced as what happened in this case.

Sec. 5-6-3.3. Offender Initiative Program.
(a) Statement of purpose. The General Assembly seeks to continue other successful programs that promote public safety, conserve valuable resources, and reduce recidivism by defendants who can lead productive lives by creating the Offender Initiative Program.
(a-1) Whenever any person who has not previously been convicted of any felony offense under the laws of this State, the laws of any other state, or the laws of the United States, is arrested for and charged with a probationable felony offense . . . the court, with the consent of the defendant and the State's Attorney, may continue this matter to allow a defendant to participate and complete the Offender Initiative Program.
