Giant Bomb Bomb-All

I feel like Charge by its very nature encourages shotgun use because it plants you right in front of things. That's my bias, though, I didn't find Sentinel all that compelling until 3 when you could make yourself into a walking detonation platform.

I went soldier for my first playthrough of all three games. I just wanted the combat to be over for the most part and soldier let me shoot things until they were dead.

Just coming in here to say that Mass Effect 2 was robbed during the year it came out for GOTY. Vinny is (justifiably) still angry about that.

Yeah, Charge was always my favourite power in those games because it is literally a great implementation of risk/reward. Using it without thinking meant almost a guarantee of instant death, at least in the first half of the game. But if used strategically it was great at instantly breaking a crowd of enemies apart.

ME2 won GOTY when it came out.

Yes, Vector's right; I think the thing you may be thinking of, Vrikk, is that I believe Vinny often references ME2 as game of the generation for that generation, which there was some argument at some point about whether it was Red Dead Redemption or Burnout Paradise (though I don't think they ever actually made a pick, I just think it's a discussion they've had a few times).

I was pleased to hear at the start of this week's Bombcast that people had registered to Brad the complaint I was feeling--that, in his absence, we were getting subjected to way too much wrestling talk. The Jeff/Jason/Ben/Jan combo is probably the least appealing crew to me, as it means talk of wrestling, fighting games, anime, DOTA, Pokemon, expensive retro game stuff...really just a classic collection of topics in which I have zero interest. Yay Brad's back!

Hell yeah, Mass Alex Season 2. I'd love time in my life to play this game again, but watching GB play it is close enough.

Also Vinny + Alex play off of each other so well. I'd listen to the 2 of them play almost anything.

I'm starting to suspect that Altered Beast might be really sh*tty.

Heheh... I kinda wish they'd just take a cart out into a field and hit it with baseball bats.

Episode 14 was absolutely hilarious. It's amazing how bad this game is compared to how good I thought it was back in the day.

The Left Alive quicklook is one of the best I've seen in awhile. So funny.

I'm half way through, but the enemy on the roof of the van/truck had me cracking up. There's something special about Vinny's ability to break video games.

Vinny is the Everyman Dad that we strive to be.

When are they doing a quick look of Sekiro?

Edit : Never mind links
Sekiro Quicklook.

Of course Brad is driving. Why do they make bad decisions.

Ok, how long has Alex been splayed out in the background of the Die Another Friday banner like the creepy gold spray painted woman in Goldfinger? Because that's pretty, uh, golden.

I also expect Dan thinks that jacket passes as a tuxedo.

The entire time, actually.

I'm not too surprised I never noticed.

I am also starting to suspect that God Hand might be sh*tty. Not in the same way Altered Beast is, but still sh*tty.

God Hand is supremely difficult to play the way they are doing it; one hour every two weeks. There’s a lot of flow, combo tweeking, and understanding what your abilities do that they just haven’t been able to internalize anything. They are, essentially, trying to brute force their way through a game that actively punished you for doing that.

Fair enough, but there's also repetitive music, rip-off fusion Devil May Cry/Fist of the North Star aesthetic, and lack of a proper lock-on to contend with. I also hate the way the dude runs.

Great Noclip vid interviewing Jeff Gerstmann for an hour covering his entire career. Also available in podcast format.

Is the WWE wrestler who had a guest appearance on the Beastcast someone who is famous outside the world of wrestling? They only introduced him as "Jack Gallagher" without further explanation, so it took a while to figure out he wasn't like a Rock Paper Shotgun editor in town for the weekend or something. Even when they started talking wrestling in connection to him I wasn't clear whether he was like a commentator or someone who covers wrestling, but I eventually pieced together that he was a wrestler. I'm inclined to say that they (/maybe just Dan) assume too much about the general population's awareness of who wrestlers are, though I guess I can't say for sure this guy isn't some sort of The Rock/John Cena level performer who might be known for stuff outside of wrestling.

To further criticize Dan (a popular activity in this thread I don't usually participate in!) he seems to be backsliding into more of his obnoxious Old Dan stuff, such as with his bad faith defense of his bathroom line-cutting. I loved when, after Dan took everyone on some tangent about not knowing what egg yolks were and Alex pointed out that wikipedia could solve this for him in 30 seconds, Dan responded something like "well I don't care enough about the answer to actually go and look it up" and Alex replied "and yet you want to devote 10 minutes of our podcast to talking about how you don't know the answer!" Alex is on point as usual.

Alex is at his best when he's making fun of Dan.

He's been a guest on the Beastcast before, I think they assumed we'd know him from there.

The latest Mass Al'ecks hits a critical milestone: the introduction of the single dumbest character in the ME universe, Kal'Reegar, the Quarian who inexplicably talks and acts like an American Marine to the point of shouting "Ooo-rah!" because he's played by noted piece of sh*t Adam Baldwin, who apparently decided he should do Marine sh*t whether the character calls for it or not, as his Green Lantern in the first Injustice has a similar problem. Reegar "doesn't do technical stuff," despite his very survival depending on the highly technical suit he wears, and the idea that his nomadic space-faring people should be prepared to repair their ships at any moment. It's fun watching Alex do things I didn't, but he really should have let Reegar die.

I'm through part 7 of Mass Alex. Does Alex ever figure out reloading his gun? I am constantly watching him sit back in cover with "reload" flashing on his screen because he has 2, 1, or even 0 shots left in his magazine, and he just sits there waiting for enemies, stands to fire, and then immediately has to reload. It's maddening!

Not at all but it hasn't affected his combat.

They are playing the game exactly like I do so it really tickles my fancy.

PokeMonday Night Combat is my favourite thing on the website. It's extremely relaxing and Jan is a delight.
