I'm with you on this, I don't get it. That just looks like bad parenting to me...
First I'd heard of it, but even sans dog to catch it, I doubt any babies are being hurt or even mildly distressed by tossed cheese slices.

I think you're underestimating how easily a baby of that age can become distressed.
And, again, why throw a cheese slice at a baby? Or use a baby as a prop in a stunt that involves a dog jumping at the thing you're throwing at said baby?

A girl I know posted a video to Facebook of her throwing a slice of cheese at her one year old and he thought it was hilarious. Obviously if you know your kid and they aren't like 3 weeks old then use your best judgement.
