[Discussion] Hope to Remember The Trump Administration Thread as being 'transparent and honest'

Let's follow and discuss what our newest presidential administration gets up to, the good, the bad, the lawsuits, and the many many indictments.

I've been so torn on this point. Horrible jackass that he is, he is still POTUS and this is frankly the currently best way to track what he communicates.

If he wants to communicate something he has a Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, a Press Secretary, and entire press office located a few feet from the Oval Office.

That's a lot of people that aren't saying "Mr. President this will actually create legal challenges against you" to his proclamations.

Now they just spend their time (paid by us taxpayers) to spin wild fantasies about how Trump didn't say exactly what he said or "explain" what he really meant by his toiletside chat.

I don't disagree that he should not be using Twitter in this manner, but that horse has left the barn.

Previously, pilots never made split second decisions.

Apparently, shortly after that tweet, the president of Boeing got on the phone with him.

Also, the current acting Secretary of Defense used to be a Boeing VP.

I'm just glad I'm not flying anywhere right now.

This could be the biggest problem with a single model of passenger airliner since the DC-10 and of course Trump's going to screw this up.

There is a reason previous presidents didn't make proclamations from the toilet.

Didn't LBJ hold meetings on the can?

Good acoustics in there.

Our Commander in Tweet just tweeted that making daylight savings time permanent is “O.K. with me”. So that’s it. We’re done jumping back and forth an hour, right? I mean they argued that his Twitter account should be seen as official statements from the president. Isn’t this is how things work these days.

So, here's a funny thing.

In the last few days, I've done some reading about daylight saving time, where it comes from, and who supports it (credit to garion for asking what the DST lobby was). It turns out that one of the big lobbies for daylight saving time is the golf industry, and another is the vacation industry. An additional hour of daylight after work hours greatly benefits both of those industries.

You may recall that Trump owns a number of golf courses and resorts. So even here, he is advancing a position that would benefit his businesses and him personally.

There's really no end to the corruption, is there?

And the fix for the plane software was delayed 5 weeks during the government shutdown because the FAA couldn't meet with Boeing at that time.

Yeah 45 directly contributed to the deaths of these people

Sigh. Adding it to his total.

Well you know what they say, a stopped clock... Ah f*ck it I hate the metaphor. Sure it's right twice a day, but unless you have a working clock you will never know when it is right. On the other hand maybe that's accurate when it comes to Trump...

I don't think this broken clock is right ever...

A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure. A man with three watches is probably selling them on a street corner.

A man with four watches is on duty all night.

A man with five watches is a time-themed supervillain.

A man with six watches is probably actually a 90's kid with a family of tamogotchis.

A man with seven plus watches is probably an international lawyer.

A man with no watches is probably carrying a cellphone to tell time.

Time will tell...

A man with eight watches could very well be

Or octodad.

Or four kids on each other's shoulders wearing a trenchcoat to get into an R-rated movie.

Or a 80's kid making a swatch watch fashion statement.

Senate passes resolution overturning Donald Trump’s border wall emergency in a rebuke to president

In a major rebuke to President Donald Trump on his signature domestic policy issue, the Republican-controlled Senate on Thursday voted to block the national emergency the president declared to free up money for his border wall.

A dozen Republicans joined all Democrats backing a resolution to rescind Trump’s effort to tap into more than $6 billion for the wall that had been set aside for other programs, most of them at the Pentagon.

Trump vowed to use his veto power for the first time to kill the resolution, which passed the House 245-182 last month. There’s not likely enough opposition to override that veto. But the Senate vote was nevertheless a significant political setback for the White House, which had lobbied hard in recent days to keep Republicans in line.

Republican senators such as Utah’s Mitt Romney and Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander said they supported Trump’s desire to build the wall. But they did not want to set a precedent of the president going around Congress for funding lawmakers had rejected.

Congress had sent Trump $1.375 billion for the wall this year, far less than what he wanted.

“Our nation’s founders gave to Congress the power to approve all spending so that the president would not have too much power,” Alexander said. “This check on the executive is a crucial source of our freedom.”

The sad thing is trumps cult will agree that it is a check on presidential power and that is why the government should be changed

Don’t care. F*ck them and their monarchical / dictatorial views. I’m not interested in living within their world any long than I have to and I’m far less concerned with how they feel or what they’ll do. We’ve made them the bogeyman when they’re honestly 15% at most. Lumping in the sh*tty evangelicals who will follow anyone ‘conservative’ isn’t really authentic and is disingenuous. They’d have followed Anyone with an R by their name.

I’m Sorry for the rage. I’m tired of this and the bullsh*t.

Politico's reporting that Trump got mad when Sens. Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Ben Sasse showed up at the White House unannounced last night to discuss how Trump could help wrangle Republican votes. Trump was upset because they interrupted his dinner. Another White House official was quoted calling the Senators "trespassers."

This morning Trump's idea of politicking was to tweet "A vote for today’s resolution by Republican Senators is a vote for Nancy Pelosi, Crime, and the Open Border Democrats!“ and then have White House aides text that tweet to Republican Senators and their staffs.

It would feel much better saying something like, "Ha ha, suck it, Republicans! You made this monster, now you have to sleep with it!" if he weren't also destroying the country I live in.
