2019 NFL Offseason Extravaganza

Well that was unexpected could the Browns actually win that division this year? Browns vs Patriots in the playoffs? Tom Brady lasted so long that the Browns were relevant again....

Barnwell is poopooing all over the Packers moves from an efficiency of $$$ spent but honestly f*ck it. I'm not sure if Rodgers actually wants to pull a Brady and play forever.

Chiefs trade Dee Ford to Niners for a 2020 2nd round pick. Ford agrees to 5-year $87.5 million deal.

Finally some pass rush for the Niners. I'll be very happy if Ford is at SAM and the team is able to draft Bosa to play LEO.

LOL

Breshad Perriman now wants out of his Cleveland deal after the OBJ trade.

I am SO not bored now!

-_-

Panthers replace C Matt Kalil with C Matt Paradis from the Broncos. I'll take that. Now if we can an edge rusher and a tackle or two in the draft, we'll be OK.

Not as good as the Browns, tho. Nobody can be that good.

You're welcome, Legion.

And as expected, Le'Veon Bell discovered his holdout only hurt his value.

He rejected 5 years, $70 million from the Steelers. $14m average.

His contract with the Jets is for 4 years, $52.5 million. $13.125m average.

Not only did holding out cost him a year of earnings, but the new contract doesn't even live up to what he snubbed, let alone exceed it and let him make up some of the lost money

All he did was cost himself millions.

Bell, last offseason:

The Jets apparently put their best offer on the table, and didn't budget from it. Bell and agent tried to drum up competing offers from other teams, but Jets didn't bite and avoided upping their offer.

The plus side for Bell in all this is that the Jets offer supposedly has more legitimately guaranteed money in it that the Steelers offer last offseason, but we're still waiting on details to see how true that is.

Odell Beckham Jr is reportedly going to Cleveland.

If true then I may cancel my NFL GamePass subscription for the next two years, because there'll be nothing Giants-related that's worth watching.

Odell has diva-ish tendencies, but his value to the Giants is clear. He's arguably there most valuable player (I think Saquon Barkley is probably their best). They need to draft stupidly well to make up for this.

By my reckoning they need a young QB, another top receiver, a couple of very good O-Linemen, a very good edge rusher. That's likely two Draft years, no?

Forbes have written a persuasive article about this, but I can't help thinking that a young QB would want to have Beckham Jr to throw to. Although that probably won't be until the 2020 Season now.

EDIT: Just wandered upthread and discovered how late I am to the party. Wot Tempest and Wispa said, basically.

Eli should have been given an understudy a year ago.

Also, I'd argue that Beckham Jr - for all his diva tendencies - was super-valuable to the Giants, and shaping up to be a Jones/Brown/Fitzgerald level of receiver. At that point, so long as he turns up to work and produces, then you live with the 'issues', no?

Don't go canceling your sub, they can't be much worse to watch than they've been. If anything they'll be different in the coming season and next, which had to be a better reason to watch than before.

I think the Giants are in a fairly enviable position now. So many teams have young QBs now that there isn't a mad rush for them like in the past. Granted the talent pool this year isn't as exciting, but you play with the cards you are dealt. Then again, Gettleman is the reason the Giants are still looking for a QB for the future, so it's a shame he's still at the reins this draft.

The Giants need pass rush and there's no better draft for that than this one. They've already picked up a stud OG. Now it's time to find some OTs.

I think the Giants are possibly in a better position for the future than they were before they traded OBJ, which is really weird to me. I didn't think I'd feel that way, but I do.

BTW, Breshad Perriman did indeed back out of his deal with the Browns and signed with the Bucs.

My predictions regarding the Great Baltimore Fire Sale

1) The Ravens will win between 2 and 4 games next year.
2) Jax will get get hurt before week 5 but play through and suck
3) The fans will turn on him and blame the season on him.
4) Idiots will say we never should have gotten rid of Flacco
5) After two years of rebuilding, they'll draft another QB

@garion333,

Oh, I think they can be worse. They can lose their slender leads in four playoff-critical games on the last opposition drive of the 3rd quarter, instead of the 4th quarter!

I still don't think they're ahead in a stronger position today. They trade a proven game-changer for a 1st Round Pick, a 3rd Round Pick, and a Safety. In order to be 'up' on this deal, they still need to draft a wide receiver, plus another player who fills an urgent need else where. And both need to be day one starters, I think. I don't think the 3rd round pick is enough to do that.

And this ignores the cap hit.

It would surely have made more sense to let Beckham go last season.

It would've, certainly, but this year will be all about young, draft talent and next year they'll reap the cap benefit. They'll then be able to add more veteran receiver help.

This year will be the Barkley show, I'm sure. It'll be great for his fantasy value!

The weirdest part of this whole thing as a Browns fan...

For the first time in years, I don't care about the Draft and I'm legit excited about the team as constituted.

In Ozzie DeCosta we trust.

Yup, injuries (and OL) are likely to be the biggest problems this season.

Edit: DL starters are Olivier Vernon, Larry Ogunjobi, Sheldon Richardson and Myles Garrett. That's one heck of a massive upgrade over last year.

Ozzie was a genius, but boy did he have a blind spot for Flacco's value.

He fixed it in the end. His biggest blind spot was WR. He did okay for QBs over the years. Flacco was far from perfect, but deserved to be on the team until they won the Super Bowl. Boller was a piece of sh*t from day 1 (still bitter), but the later round picks of Tyrod Taylor and Troy Smith were great pickups.

As far as WRs go, he drafted...no one notable. I mean, look at this list. Torrey Smith and Brandon Stokley. That's it. Last year's crop of Jaleel Scott and Jordan Lasley were inspired, at least. Heck, part of the problem is they didn't draft nearly enough WRs and have always relied on aged veterans. Always.

Sadly, this is likely to be true. And I fear for Barkley's health because if it. Last year, he was the number 1 rusher (of course), but he was also the number receiver too! 91 catches for 720 years (OBJ was 77 for1032. But Shepherd - the better comparison - was 66 for 872.)

We saw how often Eli would try to force the ball to Beckham because he was meant to be one of the the two main sources of yardage. What will happen next year when/if it's mainly Barkley? I can see Barkley being broken by the second half of the season. (Have we learned nothing since Todd Gurley, people? Won't someone think of children, etc.?)

Gurley's injury history is way worse than Barkley, right?

Anyway, he's a young stud and I see no reason for them not to overuse him again this season with a rookie QB taking over in week 6.

Just saw that Teddy Bridgewater turned down and offer from Miami but stayed with the Saints instead. Smart move on his end.

Does anyone know what's up with Clinton-Dix? Is he on his way out of the league or something?

He's waiting to get signed by whichever team loses the Earl Thomas negotiations.

EDIT: And Baltimore is landing Thomas. So Clinton-Dix will probably be getting a call from the 49ers soon.

Draw Play Dave is not taking the OBJ news well.

Ravens also land Mark Ingram.

Huh, didn't expect that.

Damn, Colts retain Pierre Desir. I was hoping for him to become a Niner.

OK, I'm bored again!

He made a comic version of that Tweet, btw.
