Apex Legends - Catch All

And... I think I'm done. This game needs a single-person squad option. 'Nuff said.

I just won one with pubbies for the first time since Escher and Ran carried me to two wins in a night. I even got the winning kill after the last guy downed one of my squad mates.

The intensity is real, and the reward extreme. It really does make up for the times I need to immediately restart after getting wiped ASAP.

:old:

Which makes no sense because it's structured around team play.

I enjoy playing this game, but I really should move on as I hardly feel accomplished when reflecting upon my time I spend in it, and I have a ton of games I would like to play through story content. But I keep playing this. It's just easier to jump into a round here and there than think of being tied into 30mins+ to get through a story mission in Monster Hunter World or something.

This is where I'm at. Sometimes it's hard to commit to diving into KH3 for a couple of hours when I don't always have that kind of time set aside.

Won my first game today so I'm now confident enough to jump into the Discord. Hopefully I can hook up with some GWJers and get another W!

I got my fancy A badge after hitting 100 last night!

Out of interest Ran, how many hours have you clocked? It'd be good to know how big the experience deficit is between me and the inevitable cluster of L90+ squads I'm hot dropping in with every game

160+ on my main account.

Okay, progression sounds a lot more linear than I was expecting. I'm L17 with about 12 hours and I'm terrible so it seems the gap is definitely skill rather than time-based :p

Some other stats: All my characters have 20k or more damage, and each one has at least 1 win. Have 130 top 3 finishes. Each one averages around 250-300 damage per kill.

Had a crazy random day.

Normally, I play 95% of the time as Lifeline. I used to try to get R99, 301, plus a shotgun. Now I just want two guns I can spray with, that have different ammo. (and yes, Spitfire/301 ideally, or some combo of R99, 301, fully spraying prowler, or turbo havoc).

A couple days ago, I thought I would go for xbox achievements, since none of my friends were playing. Figured I'd start playing a new legend until I got a win with that one (days and days later), whenever I was on my own. Things went a bit better...Got a recon win with bloodhound on second try, offensive win as bangalore on third try, and defensive win as caustic on first try. So that was six games. And not cause I'm great. Mostly luck and ideal circumstances.

In one of the games, I kept running after these two guys with 1200 kills each, and the few times I caught up to them, i got 4 finishing kills (they had like 15 kills each by game end). They did not need or really notice me.

In another game as Caustic, we almost wiped in first minute, and then very surprisingly the random guy I was with snuck in under fire to get our banners. We spent the rest of the game on the edge of the circles trying to find armor and weapons. In the final circle, three teams gutted each other, we went in when the last one was healing up, did the caustic ultimate for the first time with results, and won. With 2 kills between all three of us.

I've been using my time with random folks to guilt-free practice Jumpmastering, to practice going into Skull Town, Market, or Bunker, with 3-6 other groups. Mostly learning to be calm and aim at the jumping little kids, which has greatly improved my beginning game with pistols. Even Mozambique kills...

The R45 aimed at their necks is...terrifying when they have no shields. Killed my first whole squad by myself that way.

I have not been this fully addicted/excited with a game in years and years. I have made some new Xbox friends with finding people who are great teammates and inviting them, or being invited, to play more rounds. Never done that before.

The fun for me really is setting my own goals for a round. Being in the top 3 has only been my goal for the cheevos, otherwise I try to get better at something, try out a gun, try out a zone, try to be less self-conscious about f*ing up the Jumpmaster thing...all fun, all the time, so far.

My main frustration is looking through my GWJ friends online and seeing they haven't even downloaded it. What are they thinking?

Roo, I saw your messages but only some time later. If you see me online it is often my kids though they don't play Apex. Don't be shy with the invites- the kids will ignore them but if I'm on I will team up unless we already have three.

I was playing with a friend who is much more advanced than me. We were in a squad of two from the start (which seems more common now). I was called on urgent IT support by my wife so I handed the controller to my 16 year old daughter who had never played the game before. One kill and second place.

PC is better

I've been having a ton of good runs lately with pub players where everyone contributes a fair amount. Pretty much getting 1 or 2 wins a day with randos.

On another note, I think the key to this game is to just keep moving and be aggressive. If you hear shots, run towards it for the surprise advantage. If someone is running behind cover, pursue them because they are probably healing or rezing. If they are sniping, chase after them because they will most likely panic at someone running after them. If you sit back or separate or lag behind staring at loot you're at a disadvantage.

I agree. Only success (and very limited for me) has been doing exactly as described. Hiding in the corner for fights doesn't work well.

Agreed and 3rded. At least that’s what I prefer as well.

Note several pages back, where if I want to play this on my PC, I will have to upgrade my CPU for 65 euros or so, as Apex won't even try to run on my CPU (that runs everything else just fine).

Now, when I am done with teaching for the school year, or maybe for my birthday...that might happen. I am...obsessed.

One more tiny story:

My two rando teammates were having a sniper competition with two guys from another team. They were all crouched, in cover, with height. I ran up next to the other team and mowed them down with one mag of not-upgraded spitfire, while in my head making some sort of witty one liner from Expendables. Something about how they liked being crouched behind a rock now. Something...funny.

I saw. Just teasing.

Those moments are great and definitely keeps you coming back.

Had a very confusing win last night where two members of the last squad both had golden revive shields. Not being able to share that caused our random to plug a mic in afterwards, and then we played a few more and won a second one.

It feels like it's gonna be a long time before another game distracts me from this one, but we'll see. Battle Royales already tickle my love of exploration in games, and this one being so focused on teamwork and communication really work for me, as well.

I got a legendary Longbow skin from a pack and now every time I see a Longbow, I can’t help myself but to pick it up. I admit I have a problem...

Also had fun playing some rounds with TLHero! I still can’t pull myself away from this game either. I keep trying to play Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, but I can’t stop going right back for more Ape Legs!

One of my most bizarre games with 2 pubbies was one that 2 of us had to repeatedly get a guy to pick up purple armor. We fought 2 squads and rezzing the guy multiple times so he could get it. Ended with the win with me and one of them combined with over 3k damage and the tag along with only 17 damage.

Sounds like my kind of damage.... the 17 part.

In case the purple caustic is here.

So I got a Heirloom set for Wraith yesterday. Apparently this has a very low chance of dropping.

Is this supposed to be something cool? Looks strange as one of the items is a melee knife? I would have thought that something this rare would include a cool skin at least... Meh

I've hardly played any Wraith up to now, so somewhat wasted on me...

I think I read an article about someone wanting to buy 500 Apex boxes to get that so...somebody wants it.

Yes, some people are spending $500ish to get that. Maybe start playing Wraith?

Edit: Nevermind this, see my next post:

LOTS of rumors that the Battle Pass will indeed release today, including people having seen graphics about the update using data mining. I would expect to hear around noon Pacific, as I think that's when they've released things in the past. That's soon!

Please, it’s not like they are known for surprise releases and stuff...

No Battle Pass nor Season One today!

**IF** the data mining is correct, the Battle Pass will cost 950 Coins. You can currently get 1000 Coins by being a member of EA Access on Xbox or Origin Access subscriber on PC. One month of EA Access is $4.99 plus tax.

I just did it and got my coins (and a Flatline skin), although I had to force quit the game and restart it.

The promo is advertised as being good for several more months, so you could just wait until the Battle Pass comes out.

I'm not aware of anything on PS4, so just come on over to Xbox!
