As for starting point, RE1 and RE4 are different in their approach. If you're familiar with Revelations then RE4 is closer to the experience you're familiar with, as it has the third-person action approach. Revelations tried to implement a bit more of the Horror of the first game, but overall it's been an evolution of 4. RE1 is basically a Metroidvania in a mansion, and this HD Remaster allows you to choose the original tank controls or go for more "modern" controls. It won't really prepare you for the rest of the franchise mechanically, but lore-wise gives you a sense of where it all began. While the cut-scenes are as B-movie as ever – and RE4 is pretty much the only one that owns that B-movie element in a successfully self-aware manner without Whedon-esque attempts to convince you how clever it is for doing so – I found the story of the mansion itself to basically be the best RE's ever been narratively. Sure, it's telling the same tale of corporate conceit and irresponsibility you'd find in Jurassic Park, but there's a more personal tragedy weaved into it all that the series is just incapable of recapturing. Except for maybe RE7, from what I've seen.

I'll have to have a think about what I'm looking for then... Something I liked about Revelations 1 was that (for the most part) you were on the ship for the entire game and just exploring more and more of that one place. I liked how you had a sense of the scale of the ship from the very beginning and could see the progress you were making towards seeing going everywhere. I also enjoyed things like needing certain keys or the correct weight in coins. Would either of RE1 and 4 have more of that feeling?

RE1 is certainly more along those lines. RE4 has you doing a bit of that in the village and the castle, but they're overall far more linear experiences whereas RE1 is all about getting to know the layout of the mansion and planning your route.

I always felt RE4 went downhill after the beginning area. Or, at least, nothing matched that first fight with bag head guy. Not mechanically, at least, but in terms of sheer terror and whatnot.

Am I crazy?

RE4 started brilliantly. The first lot of hours were awesome. I too found that it went downhill from then on. I simply lost interest and failed to return at some stage or another.

I really wish that Revelations had been just the parts with Jill on the Queen Zenobia. The interstitial sequences that were more action-heavy were terrible and drag the whole game down.

In terms of terror, you are right, but that was never really the point of RE4. RE4 is almost entirely a pure action game with survival horror trappings. If you want terror, you want RE 1,2, and 7. RE4 is campy action horror to the highest degree. On that level, it was great from start to finish. I only played the game for the first time a few years ago and felt it held up beautifully. It was easy to see why so many still consider it one of the best games ever made.

I will definitely be grabbing RE4 again on Switch if the price is reasonable. That part remains to be seen, based on the current $60 Gamestop preorder price for RE Origins Collection. This same collection launched on other platforms at $40, and you can buy the two included titles separately for $19.99 each on the PS store right now. Hopefully that's a placeholder price.

No, you're not. That first village sequence is a set-piece unlike any other, and there really is no other in the game that is as tense. Of course, I'd say it doesn't give it up, either, what with defending the farm house with Luis as an example.

At the same time, the village is also not that tense once you know "the trick". I have a very specific approach to it, where I visit specific houses for specific gear and ammunition before heading into THE house, grabbing ammo, grabbing the shotgun, and then booking it upstairs. Basically just hop through a window and work your way around the roof, and you discover the basic strategy of RE4: find a spot to bottleneck the enemy. It's kind of funny, because the game feels like it should be about always moving and never stopping, but since the A.I. is designed to flank you it's often better to force them into a spot where they're bottle-necked. This becomes surprisingly easier the further into the game you get.

That said, I'd say the game has a variety of set-pieces that are all still memorable, but it leaves the tense horror behind and cranks up the action gauge more and more as the game progresses. As an action-horror, RE4 is still head-and-shoulders above its contemporaries, and while I love Dead Space it never approached the execution that all of RE4's different set pieces had. But if you were playing RE4 as a horror with action, you were bound to be disappointed as the game went on. The village is appropriately eerie and unsettling and horrific, but the castle is straight up B movie shenanigans, and with the exception of the... Regenerator? in the final compound, the final stretch is purely 80's action.

It really is a weird combination of different tones and concepts, and yet it never feels like the game is indecisive with what it wants to be. Not to me, at least, and I suppose not with a lot of others, seeing as it is still hailed as one of the best games ever made.

And as Dyni is noting, right now it looks like the RE games are gonna be quite costly on Switch considering their price on other platforms. While they certainly add to the grocery list of games I've already played re-releasing in April, I'm in no rush. RE games always go on sale, and these will be no different.

I'm out on the RE ports, these are the kind of games I will definitely just stick with getting on PC instead.

Did anyone here pick up the Genki bluetooth adapter or anything similar? I was thinking about it so I could use my AirPods, but I'm seeing report of substantial audio delay.

I have the Genki and don't have any audio delay. Not in handheld and not while docked with the Genki USB adapter. I'm not suing my AirPods, though, just a $15 pair of bluetooth earbuds. I have heard that you can get some delay if you connect two separate pairs of headphones (which is supported and works) that are connecting using different protocols. But I've had two of the same model connected without issue and without delays.

I have this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075JBLGLB... and it is good but a little annoying because it needs to be charged and it rather large. Still it works.

Took my time replying to this...but I have the Genki and the Dock Adapter. I think it's great. I can't pick up on any delay. I find that initial pairing can be slow, but once they're paired they reconnect instantly. I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking to primarily use bluetooth earphones in handheld and/or docked mode.

So the talk of adapters caused me to go look into my 8bitdo wireless adapter (looks like a Mario brick) and it seems the firmware version (1.17) I had was known to cause controller disconnects, which then locked the console. We'll see how this goes. Last time I looked, I couldn't find anyone talking about it for some reason, but I'm happy to see it was resolved.

I've been saving for a Switch since January, while keeping an eye on e-bay type sites. I found a great deal at €300: a Switch still under guarantee until December, with 3 games.

Here's the kicker though: one of those three is a download. Assuming the person has no other Nintendo devices, could I suggest to him to change the e-mail address to 'hand over' the game through the account? If he needs the account, are there any other ways to transfer the game or should I just assume that game is 'lost' and renegotiate?

I have a Nintendo account myself, for my 3DS, with a couple of NES games on it. But I wouldn't mind opening a second one on another e-mail address if that nets me Mario Kart 8

Thanks everyone in advance.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's no way to transfer games to another account. If you don't reset the Switch to factory settings, you may be able to log in to your account, set it as your main Switch, and as long as the original owner doesn't use his account, you could possibly continue to play Mario Kart.

Even if they changed the email address and password on their account to give you access to it, they could still legally recover it through Nintendo or get it locked out, because accounts themselves are non-transferrable under Nintendo's terms of service, and the game is locked to their account.

In general, don't count on digital purchases sticking around when you buy used hardware. Even if you work out an arrangement with the seller, you have to assume those games can go up in smoke at any time. If they don't want to "give" you the game with the Switch, have them factory reset it before they send it to you.

Solid advice, thanks. I hadn't even taken the Nintendo angle into account, and their ToS. There's a bit too much risk involved in taking over his account by my standards. If I use that account for my Switch, and start purchasing other games (hello, Celeste!) I could lose it all if anything happens - be it the current user trying to get it back, or Nintendo noticing that everything changes including the account holder's name and physical address and deciding to block it.

I'll have an open discussion with the seller, and see what happens. Thanks again for your feedback.

Just to note, in the event that you do "transfer" the seller's account, you can simply make all subsequent digital purchases on a different profile, with a different Nintendo account, I think.

That way, if they do pull a fast one, you don't lose subsequent purchases you've made.

How many Nintendo Accounts can I have on one Nintendo Switch console?
Up to 8 Nintendo Accounts can be linked to a Nintendo Switch console at a time.

Can I link my Nintendo Account to more than one Nintendo Switch console?

You can link your Nintendo Account to multiple consoles. You can play digital games you've purchased on any Nintendo Switch console that has been linked to your Nintendo Account..

Please note that you can register one primary console per Nintendo Account. Once you've registered a primary console, your digital purchases can be played by anyone that uses the primary console. Other players will not be able to access your digital games on a non-primary console.
