stuff

I love how you went from being disillusioned with the Choose Your Tag stuff to re-embracing it and becoming the change you wanted to see in this world. It was a whole movie's worth of character arc in one post.

garion is my savior!

Garion is but a prophet for the true savior to come. He is John the Baptist to the Christ that is an unidentified Wii U game from 2013.

If it makes you feel any better, merphle noticed my CYT status, created a thread that had a bunch of suggestions made, and I didn't even know it was happening until Eleima poked me via PM and said "hey, dude, pay attention!" (It was more polite than that, but the message was clear!)

Thanks Feegle I was actually kind of afraid that happened, so I did do a quick search for something like that before posting to this thread.

garion: Tag Prophet to the Gods (And a Couple Regular People)

I already had my tag picked out in advance

Historically someone will start a thread for yall, suggest choices and then you'll pick (by PMing Certis).

Lately there's been a rash of people who haven't chosen a tag and just sit with the "Choose Your Tag!" for months and years, which has partially killed off the entire enterprise to me. Some people have multiple tag threads because of that. I've unfortunately come to ignore the "Choose Your Tag!" designation because of that.

Guilty as charged. I've finally gotten off my butt and sent a PM so it should be fixed presentlyalready.

So, yall have likely fallen through the cracks, sad to say. Eleima used to keep track of all the tags and their threads, but I don't know what happened with that endeavor.

Still, someone should get some tagging threads started for yall... Hmm. Who could do that. I dunno... Hmm.

Edit: Hmm. What's this I see?

Edit: Edit: What's this I just found?!

This is kinda why I’ve let up on my efforts. I’ve even sent PMs and stuff in the past to the taggees. It’s come to the point where I’m thinking I might have to change my own tag.

"I'm resigned to your lack of tag. Whatever."

Eleima is getting Tag Ennui.

How bad an idea is it that my home office desk is in a dingy room, right up against a bright window?

I kind of love it as my actual office at work is in a windowless factory, so getting more daylight is wonderful. But am I setting myself up for eyestrain?

which way are you facing compared to the window? if it's shining in your eyes from any direction, my guess is your poor little irises are going to get exhausted trying to adjust the light level.

From what I remember from ergonomics training back when dinosaurs roamed the earth (THERE ARE KIDS IN COLLEGE THAT DIDN'T EXIST THE LAST TIME I HAD ERGO TRAINING! ARGH!), it's generally best to have a little bit of light behind your monitor so it's close to the same brightness, and no distracting lights to the sides.

Even with not-ideal lighting, there may be techniques you can use to avoid eye strain. I'd ask Dr. Google.

If the monitor wasn't there, I'd be looking directly out the window.

In my defense, that's a north-facing window in Seattle, so I don't get direct sunlight at any point in the day. I also have the brightness on my monitor cranked fairly high.

Wh... What is in th... the sh... shed?

People don't talk about that shed. There's no shed.

Jonman. Something else typed this question.

Definitely no corpses.

That's likely to give you a headache in the long term (days, weeks...). A shade or drapes (don't need to be blackout) would be best. Partially drawn blinds might even make it worse!

I had a similar setup for a while but I had blinds like Ken said. I had them mostly closed but one raised about a foot so I could see the sidewalk and street from my desk (I was on the second floor). The light never bothered me, also was north facing.

Did you know that Jonman has both a shed and a detached garage?

polycondous?

The garage and I broke up and it moved out.

But I started dating a carport, so we're all good.

I want to pick up a Warhammer 40k starter set. I've played 40k once in my teens, and have a passing familiarity with the IP.

A buddy has picked up a set (space marines and death guard), and I'd like to get one too. Anyone care to suggest one? Under $100, something like 15-30 miniatures.

Jonman it really comes down to your preferred play style. For general value in that $100 range I'd recommend any of the "Start Collecting" boxes that they've released in the last 2 years. Maybe Tyranids or T'au as they're somewhat different than what your buddy has.

If you want to throw down a little more money you could move up to the Battleforce sets. They're a great value, but still almost $200 most places.

North facing window in Seattle? So, you get what, 3 sunny days a year and never any two in a row? I think you're fine..

I am making a bad joke. I feel bad. I am also amusing myself quite successfully.

Setup like that would make me want to put a webcam behind the monitor and set the camera's feed as my desktop if it didn't kill the performance of the PC.

Permit me to spin a little tale...

This morning I woke up to two text messages from Chase asking me to verify a couple of charges for $119.99. Unless I had been shopping online in my sleep, I had not made these charges. I contacted the biller, who told me that someone in my city with an email I didn't recognize had used the card to subscribe to Brazzers, a porn site for which they did billing. So then I called Chase, and they told me about a third charge that had happened while I had been investigating all this: a $100 payment to some online charity website. So I got the card reissued, all the charges had been declined so I hadn't lost any money, and everything was kosher.

Then I started thinking about it... I don't use this card very much. I have had it for a while, though, and I know that the online trade in credit card numbers is quite robust, and that they can come from compromises pretty much anywhere. But the fact that it was a local charge combined with the fact that I had used the card yesterday at a local Wendy's that uses a card processing system I've never seen elsewhere, makes me wonder if that Wendy's is skimming credit card numbers.

Am I being paranoid? If I wanted to act on my suspicion, what might I do next?
