Playstation 4 Catch-All

Dang. This really, really makes the rage over Modern Warfare Remastered as a pre-order bonus look limp. I knew they'd sell it individually in time, and they did, but now it's just... oof.

"We've given up PS3 games, so here's a PS3-era game for free that looks a bit shinier."

I'm totally shocked that gamer anger over "consumer rights" or some sh*t turned out to be a big waste and vitriol over nothing.

I’m pleased as punch that I waited both games out.

The Witness is really good! I had a memorable and enjoyable time with it before burning out on puzzles. It's an aesthetic pleasure, with befitting audio, too. I loved exploring and puzzling out solutions. It was quite unique.

Had I not attempted to be a completionist I may have saw the curtain call. I think I was close.

I’ll give the witness a good go. I didn’t buy it because I was concerned I wouldn’t get on with the game (I bounced off Braid) but I can easily see myself being a convert.

I think Sony are aiming to give a couple of ‘higher quality’ games rather than more games but that’s debatable.

The Witness is a masterpiece in terms of 3D environment puzzle design. It's one of those games that shouldn't exist but does thanks to a person's obsession. Those types of games may not be healthy for the designer, but I sure love 'em. Give it a fair shake.

It might sound crazy, but I never played Modern Warfare. I'm pretty happy it's one of the free games this month.

I'm a little surprised that Sony decided to drop PS3 and Vita games from PS Plus and replace them with nothing at all. I think a lot of people assumed there would be a third PS4 game or a PS VR game or something.

I was expecting a PS VR game to show up. I remember that part of what pushed me over the edge into picking up a Vita was all the PS+ games I had gradually accumulated. That hardware hit is easier to take when you already have a library of games waiting for you. A free PS VR game each month could be a similar tipping point for some.

Me too! In fact this will be my first CoD game, assuming I do actually get around to playing it at some point.

By the way, did anyone play Obduction on PS4? I'm in the mood for a puzzle game but I remember hearing it was a bit rough at launch (yes, I already played The Witness).

Will do. Thanks.

There have been PSVR games in PS Plus in the past, right? I'm fairly certain that's why I have RIGS, TumbleVR, and the Until Dawn shooter in my library... I would definitely appreciate more free VR stuff, although Astro Bot and Tetris Effect have both been sitting near my console unplayed since Xmas (though having an infant makes VR gaming especially difficult to squeeze into my life).

For the both of you, I'll give this recommendation when it comes to the story.

Spoiler:

I've heard a lot of people call Modern Warfare itself as a big military wank, but if you consider the events that go down the game is actually a criticism of the Bush-era Shock and Awe tactics, with the title "Modern Warfare" and the nature of the story suggesting that war has evolved to be more cloak-and-dagger covert ops style missions.

Of course, as the old Infinity Ward team also like plain old fun, it's also a bunch of crazy Blockbuster shenanigans.

I played through it on PSVR, where it's butt ugly (and I think the complaints about the graphical downgrade for Skyrim on PSVR are way overblown). AFAIK, the flatscreen version is largely fine, but the main thing about it, and the reason I played all the way through, is that no one makes games like Cyan. There's some weird otherworldly alchemy that goes into their games, and Obduction's no exception. The rare bit of captured video is just as goofy as it was in the Myst games, the story's a bit ramshackle but it all coheres, and it's full of fascinating puzzles and that sense of satisfaction when you solve one and a whole new area opens up.

It did take a while for me to really get sucked into it; I don't think this is much of a spoiler, as it's true of the Myst games, too, but

Spoiler:

it wasn't until it opened up new worlds to go to that I knew I was going to play all the way to the end.

Cool insight, cces. I may have to try this Modern Warfare. The only Call of Duty I played was Black Ops, and Black Ops 2. I played one of the campaigns and found it shrug worthy. Zombies was my ticket and I had much fun there. It'll be interesting to see the campaign that started it all.

Modern Warfare was part of the 2007 crop of games where the storytelling got a lot more ambitious. Portal, BioShock, Half-Life 2 Episode 2, and Modern Warfare are all grouped together in my mind for that reason. While the remaster doesn't have it, Modern Warfare also marked a huge shift in multiplayer shooters for the next several years (though it featured a lot of things Rainbow Six Vegas's multiplayer did first).

What do you mean? The remaster does have multiplayer.

My mistake! Thought I read a while back it would not have the original multiplayer.

It didn't at launch, but it was added in later.

This is the first limited edition console that I've ever wanted: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Limited Edition PS4 Pro

Thankfully for my wallet, it is pretty much impossible to get.

Oooooh...that is nice.

Oof. I might have actually considered that had I not already decided to be responsible with my tax return this year.

That decision does not have to be a "firm" decision. You learned new information. Means you get to reconsider.

Seems like this isnt actually a limited edition but rather one of those one-off's that is essentially part of a lottery/raffle give away. Looks cool but most of those one-offs are usually pretty amazing.

Lately the suspended mode is probably my favorite feature of the PS4. I haven't used the xbox 1's version. I legitimately feel like it is the reason I actually finished RDR2. It makes me a little sad that the PC doesn't have anything similar to it.

I can't imagine playing on a system that doesn't have suspend mode, anymore. I have a small stack of Wii U games to go back to but not being able to put them to sleep is a big impediment.

Between the 3DS, Switch, and PS4, yeah, suspend mode is a huge thing, especially with kids running around. Fortunately, most of the PC games I'm playing do save anywhere, so that's almost as good.

Love suspend mode as well.

Definitely one of my favorite differences about modern consoles.

Yep, I started playing last night and had a bit of a chortle when the FMV man appeared from behind the hatch! Definite flashbacks to swapping Myst CDs in the caddy of my mate's Mac back in the day.

It seems to run OK so far, although it will often hitch for a second or so, presumably loading in different chunks of the world. Nothing deal breaking for this kind of game though.

I've been posting info about it in the Yakuza 0 thread, but looks like it's a PlayStation exclusive so why not here?

Judgment is confirmed to be releasing in the West on June 25th. Digital pre-orders, which go live Thursday, March 7th, will gain access to begin playing the full game on June 21st.

USGamer has a preview of it available, and I've seen comparisons to Phoenix Wright and L.A. Noire in terms of investigation. I don't know if I should trust those comparisons seeing as everything is Dark Souls these days, but what's clear is that this has Yakuza DNA without precisely being another Yakuza in terms of mechanics.

Austin Walker had some positive things to say about the game on the latest Waypoint Radio.
