Xbox One Catch-all

I actually have an extra launch power supply you can have for shipping if you want to try it. The fan makes noise but it works.

Thanks. Let me try EvilDead's technique and I'll get back to you.

I have had power bricks, not specific to xbox, that have had to be unplugged from wall for 15 minutes before they actually reset.

My (original) Wii does this on occasion when I don't use it for a while and this is the recommended fix per the Nintendo site. Works every time.

Sounds good. Let me know!

My XB One X had a major system upgrade Friday. Anyone know what it was? (I'm on my box everyday, so it was new).

Thanks

I was excited when I installed my Xbox One X right next to my router and thus could just plug it in via Ethernet to my router, presumably maximizing my download speeds. When I started installing games to it, though, I was disappointed I rarely got over 8Mb/s...I figured it was just slowness on MS's end. Last night, though, when I wanted to play Anthem but saw a 6GB patch at 8Mb/s meant I wouldn't get to play, I decided it was worth double-checking, so I unplugged the Ethernet and connected to my router via 5g wireless. Suddenly I was getting about 150Mb/s and my 6GB patch downloaded in minutes. What the heck?!

Why would the Ethernet be so much slower? Is it my router (Netgear Nighthawk R7000) or is this an issue with Xbox? My PS4 has always been plugged in via Ethernet, but now I realize I should probably try unplugging that too.

I have had both consoles (Xbox One S, PS4, and PS4 Pro) and my experience has been that their download speeds are... labile... regardless of connection method.

Check the Ethernet ports and make sure they didn’t configure as 10Mb instead of 100 or 1000

Gameguru, is that configuration on the Xbox's end or the router?

Router end. You can force it as well. I assume you are using a newish Ethernet cable as well

This. Also make sure you are using at least a Cat 5e cable and not a Cat5. Even if you are try swapping cables. On Ethernet on xbox I get up to 500 Mbps.

Thanks! I will check it out, although since the speeds I'm getting via wifi are actually the max Comcast is offering to me, maybe there's no real benefit to being connected via Ethernet configured at 1000 Mb.

I try to run everything wired if possible but yeah both consoles are pretty reliable on WiFi.

I have a lot of traffic on my network and I still average 150-200mbps wired on game downloads so it must be router or cable (or, possibly the Ethernet port/card on the Xbox?).

Also make sure you have plenty of hard drive space as just barely having enough often results in a lot of throttling on downloads/installs in my experience. No idea what the actual science behind this is, others may.

With spinning disk HDDs the head has to move around more seeking out the spots that are free. With more free space it can write bigger chunks of data without seeking as much.

Games with Gold for March:
- Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion
- Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2
- Star Wars: Republic Commando (Xbox Original)
- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Xbox 360)

REPUBLIC COMMANDO?! Yesssssss. I wonder how bad that is in hindsight?

My son will be delighted with Republic Commando. He loves Star Wars and shooting.

PvZ: GW2 was an amazingly fun game. Mostly multiplayer, but had a bunch of single-player stuff as well.

That's good to know. I probably wouldn't have downloaded it, since I'm not a big multiplayer person.

I bought Republic Commando when it came out, played it an hour or two, and then sold it to Gamestop. Imagine my surprise when it grew into cult classic. I'm pleased to be able to try it again for free.

Also pleased with PvZ. My son loves the iPad games; maybe his interest will cross genres.

Kind of exciting about Republic Commando. Is this the second time GW2 has been on Gold? I have it from somewhere but I don't think I bought it.

It’s been in the EA Access Vault for a long time.

The bubble hockey mode for the hit squads out to get you in Crackdown 3 are ridiculous, and I crash it at least once whenever I play. At least the bubble hockey mode is funny, and thankfully I've downloaded it with GamePass and not paid full retail.

I can't find the deals thread, but Wal-Mart has a sale this week, a Just Cause 4 is $36 in store or free shipping.

Microsoft is teasing some kind of announcement for The Master Chief Collection for March 12. I can't imagine what they'd possibly have to announce if not a PC release.

I hope you didn't buy it. Just Cause 4 is now included with Game Pass.

Even now I still can't help but read it as "Master Chef".

Adding Halo: Reach?
