Apex Legends - Catch All

I got salty about one of your drops I hope i wasn't that bad about it!

This isn't PUBG people don't need to pick an out of the way place to loot and work their way in. You need to pick a named high/mid tier loot area and get on the ground ASAP. There's always the risk of not finding a gun at the start, but the odds are of the whole team finding a gun/gear is higher in the named places. Not the in between spots.

Oh I wasn't talking about you, Ranalin. This pubbie was cursing me out for hot dropping.

I've generally had good experiences with pubbies in this game, even some good voice coordination. I can only recall one, sorta bad experience (a pubbie who was salty about my choice of drop location). I'm sure there are lots of awful people playing as well. It is worth noting that the game has speech to text comms if you do want to turn off voice chat.

My main problem with playing with pubbies is the frequency by which people drop the game after dying, even if I make an attempt to rez them.

Yeah, it could just be I’ve had bad luck on the draw or weekends on PSN are full of less savory types. I just know I can’t play without headphones unless I want to risk letting my kids hear some colorful language, some of which may or may not be directed at their old man. I’ve tried enabling the speech to text but for some reason that doesn’t silence the voice chat. Not quite sure why. A ps4 thing?

Update: Nevermind. Figured it out. Just view your squad mates in menu and then select the gigantic icon that says mute :p

Managed to play with my best friend and a rando. We got a solid matchup that brought us to the final two squads. While we didn't come out as champions, it was definitely the most fun I've had in a group.

It absolutely floors me that this thread has legs.
What does this game do different than predecessors?
I mean I loved Titanfall 2 but this is not that.

It's substantially quicker than its competitors. Matches where my team has won or been in the top 3 only last ~15 minutes. For a person like me, where one of my fundamental problems with BR games has always been that it seems like each round is either over in 90 seconds or a f*cking historical epoch, that isn't nothing.

The ping communication system is very good and is something we will see other games imitate in the future.

It's the first BR game (that I'm aware of) with a robust "champions" system (characters with unique abilities that have a substantial impact on gameplay), as opposed to everybody being identical or one of a few broad classes.

I agree that with the lineage this came comes from, it seems like they could have pushed the envelope more than they did. I think a lot of its popularity comes from what it's not compared to its competitors more than what it is. PUBG and CoD Blackout you both have to pay for (and PUBG is still kindof a technical wreck a relative eternity after its release). Fortnite is free but still has the building gimmick a lot of people don't like even though it's been toned down, constantly has new wacky gear and gameplay mechanics coming and going, and is held in disdain by a lot of people for appealing to a younger audience. Everything else (Islands of Nyne for example) is stuck in some form of early access development or has never had the marketing oomph behind it to achieve critical mass.

I would argue it's not as fast as Blackout, but the biggest thing is they brought in all the QoL features from all other BRs into this and made some of them better. Outside of picking where to land or starting off with a gun i can't think what else i would want.

They need to fix their infrastructure in a hurry though because all the good will they've earned is going to slip away in a hurry if they don't get a handle on their disconnects and crashes.

It's not TF2 at all, but I loved that game, too. It's a better Battle Royale. The big deals for me are that it eliminates the building of Fortnite, gives more opportunity to respawn fallen allies, and enables extremely effective non-verbal communication and teamwork.

Playing a lot on PS4 if anyone wants to add me
HBtriplesticks there as well

PUBG actually did this first, but there was outcry from the community that it took the fun out of the game. They kept it in part by just putting it on the compass. It is a nice to have when playing with randoms but doesn't add much when in a squad.

The use of the term "Robust" makes this subjective. But Rings of Elysium had a system where you chose a gear set before you started that would decide how your mobility works. Things like gliders, or bicycles. It isn't an outright "champion" system but IMO it was the first. This is just an iteration on that.

I feel that this game has a lot of steam right now, and it is fun. But in 6 months with nerf after nerf and slow bug fixes, the next big thing will be here and we will move on. And it is no fault of Respawn, it is just how these things go. Chances are the next CoD BR will take everything we have here and iterate on it again.

I have been enjoying Apex. I still like building in Fortnite, but the character abilities are fun in Apex and respawns.

Here is an interesting video.

I fixed my crashes with one of two things...
Windowed/Boarderless instead of full screen.
OR
Setting the windows service for anti-cheat to recover itself by restarting.

Whelp, this game is not something you dip into for a few hours a week eh? I got destroyed over and over tonight after not playing for a week. Bad drops are one thing, but I'm getting killed in one or two shots with full armor. I see everyone now has all the fancy skins and such so it seems the skill level required has passed me by.

Also, I wish there were a no voice comms or no squad baby-ass-baby mode.

Ah well, was fun for a bit. And it was free so I really can't complain.

I would respectfully suggest that your squadmates aren't using the ping system well. Pings show up on the map and in the world, so having friends who ping items you need, places to go next, and most of all enemies they've spotted is huge.

He can correct me if i'm wrong, but as one of his squadmates, we use the ping system. It's just not as needed since we're on comms.

I think it is more about where the genre comes from. BRs like King of the Kill and PUBG are about communication and well thought out tactics. A ping system detracts from that as now when someone says, "where is the enemy" you just ping and they start shooting in that direction. Or when a better armor is found you ping it and someone comes and gets it. It is in a sense training wheels.

I don't think it is bad for Apex though because Apex is a fast game. There isn't time to tell your teammate "Go into the third building on the left on the top floor in the bathroom to find a level 2 armor". So they added a ping system to make it simple. But the original comment was suggesting that others would copy it but it was a copy in itself that other games dropped to increase the skill cap. In reality that might be what kills this game in 6 months. As players hit that skill cap, they will move onto more challenging BRs.

As Ranalin pointed out, being on comms helps mitigate the need of a ping system and what Apex does really well is they made BRs more approachable with systems like ping, dropping as a unit, quick rounds.

Got my 2nd win this weekend after debating on just popping on for an hour. I love that each game can be such a toss up of what kind of experience you’re going to have! The first game I got into was a quick and easy win. The next four were a mix of quick deaths and tense, long runs.

I tried a couple times to invite people from the GWJ community to play with me, but didn’t get a bite. I’d love to try this not playing just PUB games! Add me on PSN if you want! J-diz22

I am absolutely loving Apex. The ping, the slick inventory, lots of fighting, possible respawns, classes and short games all makes this the most enjoyable BR I've played.

It does seem easier to win in this than any other game. You often see squads of low level players getting wins.

Playing with randoms has generally been good with most people just getting on with it and ping FTW.

The first thing I can see damping my ardour is getting bored of the map. I hate choosing where to land.

Yeah, I have been pleasantly surprised by being able to get a couple wins even though I only play on the weekends or a couple hours here and there during the week.

Having less play time, I’m nowhere near bored of the map yet. I feel like I’m *just* getting to where I feel sort of knowledgeable about which part of the map is which.

I have the feeling that the thing that will make me bored is the leveling finally plateauing and not feeling a sense of accomplishment as often. Also just playing with randos has me already hesitating every once in a while to just slam that triangle button and get right back into the fray.

This game, like most games, needs cross play between consoles (with PC opt-in only, if at all). Respawn has said they're considering it.

A lot hinges on them keeping things fresh with new maps and characters, and keeping a sense of progression with the battle pass that is supposedly being revealed this week.

Do they need to do new maps or just make dramatic changes to the current map? Is PUBG or Fortnite the better way for this game?

PUBG and Fortnite embrace both of those options. PUBG with new maps and Fortnite changing their existing map.

They need to address performance issues and crashes first. Plus it's not even been a full month yet since their launch. The need for a new map isn't there yet.

My post above has a youtube link with a good tip. Do not move the cursor during character selection (the game auto selects your most played character), you will never be the jumpmaster.

Yea that does nothing for a lot of folks

Apex Legends has been completely stable for me. Any issue has been immediately followed by my main connection f*cking out.

Anthem is a nightmare, but that's probably because it's heavily P2P, so I have similar problems in Destiny 2.

There's issues with RTX cards. There's the party leader has quit bug. There's the crash to desktop bug.

I've yet to go a session where if not me someone in my group has had problems with one of those at least once.

I played a lot last night and for several matches I was only grouped into a team of two. I thought someone was quitting at first but it happened so often it had to be them getting disconnected.

That's rough. I don't doubt there are issues, just saying it's been damn near flawless for me. Surprisingly so. Maybe it helps that I don't play often, or for long.

*edit*

Oh yeah, have lost our third a few times, so that's probably a disconnect. But nothing to game-breaking, happily.

What's funny is that since Anthem i've been ping ponging back and forth between them due to crashes. I'll get fed up with one then go play the other till a crash hits and so on. It's been a bit surreal way to play past couple of weeks.

Turns out I don't mind the apex crashes as much as PUBG ones because the games are shorter.
