The Last of Us Part 2 - Catch All

It could well be spectacular. I really enjoyed the first games combat and they seem to be refining it in all the right ways.

Seeing how much the Uncharted series evolved over the years has me really excited to see where they go with The Last of Us. I think it's going to be a universe apart from the first game.

In lieu of any news here is a particularly nice bracket fungus.

(I occasionally see mushrooms or other fungi on my travels and immediately think of The Last of Us. For want of another outlet I'll post them here unless it drives folks crazy returning to the thread thinking there is news only to find another mushroom pic. In that case I'll save them up for a special occasion.)

Not a fungus this time. This thing is more amazing (and emotional) than it has any right to be.

Gorgeous fungus from today’s walk.

A photo of a REALLY big penny.

I love these. Great visuals that also remind me that The Last of Us II is on the horizon. Good man.

A very unusual fungus taken by my mate and walk scouting partner Carol.

I hereby claim this example for science and name it the 'Crispy bacon' fungus.

The charmingly named but very destructive 'Honey fungus.'

Not a lot of good fungi about at the moment but my photo archive has come to the rescue with this little cluster.

Higgledy I feel if an outbreak or some type of apocalypse happens the clickers will originate from the area's you do your walks in :p

It does seem likely doesn’t it. If anyone makes a clicking sound on one of the walks I’ll probably flee over the nearest hill.

When do we see your stockpile of scissors, sugar, duck tape, and alcohol? Living around there is the first warning.

Shooting has wrapped (slightly different story from the last)

Was this the first official confirmation that...

Spoiler:

Joel is in the game? Not that I’m surprised. He just hasn’t been in either teaser trailer.

If shooting just wrapped, this game is likely still a ways off I would think.

Joel was in the first trailer. I know some people speculated he was a ghost or something. He’s also mentioned as looking out for Ellie in the opening scene of the ‘Kiss’ trailer so I’d already decided he was there. Gonna be interesting to see what their relationship is now and how that might change throughout the game.

He was? I totally missed him. I just remember Ellie playing the guitar and then the dance. Didn't remember him at all.

I do that with movies.

I'm wondering wether there's going to be any story repucussions after the ending of the first game where

Spoiler:

that asshole Joel doomed humanity and all it's children by stopping a cure being made.

We must have played a totally different game.

That's one interpretation (one that many share with you) another is that:

Spoiler:

Ellie was being sacrificed without consent in the name of a cure that was by no means certain and Joel stopped that.

That was my interpretation at the time and it still is. There could still be repercussions though. It'll be interesting to see.

As I recall she was unique in being immune. There was a chance a cure could be found. It's doubtful the amount of resources they were willing to sacrifice would have been wasted unless there was a chance it would work.

Spoiler:

Joel was a monster during the early days of the outbreak and probably, at heart, still was. He was certainly entirely ruthless. He bonded with Ellie, not wanting to at first because of the pain of losing his daughter, then when the fireflies were going to kill her he just could not, because of his previous loss, let it happen. He had to do all he could to prevent her from being killed.

To me, If the Fireflies had waited for Ellie to wake, talked to her about it and got her consent. Joel wouldn’t have gone off the deep end.

I know a lot of folks look at it that Joel compounded his sin by lying about it at the end of the game but I saw it as him preserving Ellie’s peace of mind, i.e. preventing her from spending the rest of her life agonising over what ifs. Whether he had a right to do that I don’t know and if Ellie finds out about those lies, we’ll intended or not, if could easily end badly.

Spoiler:

I think he also picked up on the fact that the Fireflies would not have distributed this cure or vaccine altruistically. Even if they did manage to make one, they would have used it to seize power in the U.S. at least, cheapening Ellie's death. I think what he saw in Marlene's eyes wasn't desperation for a cure, but a lust for power.

But mostly it was that they didn't even wake her up to decide what to do. That's wrong on so many levels.

Higgledy and Grenn raised most of the points I usually do in this discussion. Also worth considering:

Spoiler:

One of the tragedies of the game is there is no indication that Ellie is unique at all--she just has confirmed immunity. How many of the many murders throughout the game were immune? No way to tell.

Even if there was a cure, it doesn't seem too likely that everyone will just lay down arms and everything will go back to normal, or even not quite normal. "Joel damned humanity" isn't a credible statement in my view, because humanity was already too far gone for a cure to actually fix anything.

I knew I had this shot somewhere. Took it in September last year.

Awesome find, Higgledy. You've a great eye for these shots.

Someone say fungus pictures?

My friend and I made Clickers for a TLOU cosplay group for Fanime 2015. That shot where we are shaded under a bridge while the others get ready to 'attack' is one of my favorite cosplay pictures I've been a part of.

I'm really looking forward to TLOU 2, but I don't know if my stomach will be able to handle the gore fest it's promising to be. The first trailer involving gutting, hanging, and arm breaking was a biiiit much for me.
