Nintendo Switch - Games You Can Play Right Now

So, no one picked up Dragon Marked for Death? I may be picking up the game since no one else did.

Best advice I've come across is that the game is designed for you to replay levels in the hopes of getting better drops before moving on to further levels. If you don't do that you'll always be too weak and struggling.

Also, the game is def a coop/mp experience.

I won't be picking it up any time soon, though I'm certainly interested.

Well I was considering picking up Dragon Marked for Death, but after that description it's now a hard pass.

I did, I like it, but I've spent more time with other stuff right now. It's very similar to Dragon's Crown in terms of progression but with a castlevania type of gameplay instead of a beat'em up.

Tried Tetris 99 this morning for two rounds. Got placed into the 20s both times but I have no idea what is happening, it seems around 30th place each time a bunch of the gray lines just started appearing and I had 20+ of them within about 30 seconds. Maybe I am just dumb but it doesn't seem like the game explains what is going on very well.

Still fun of course because it is Tetris.

You were being attacked by other players. When you clear lines you give garbage to your opponents.

Like they targeted me? I get the random lines throughout the match but they don't come that frequently. This is like a flood of lines that fills up the screen within 30 seconds. Maybe I just got unlucky and it was coincidence that it happened in both of my first matches around the same time.

Most likely. You can switch whom you're targeting with the right stick.

What probably happened is that you got into a spot of bother, then a bunch of people targeted you in the hope of getting an easy "KO".

Makes sense. I guess I don't really pay any attention to other players' boards, but I did switch my targets to be attackers instead of random.

I played a couple of more rounds this afternoon and I was surprised at how much it speeds up, when you get in the top 10 it really gets going and top 5 it is almost too fast to even spin the pieces. I am not sure I want that much stress in my Tetris.

Per the Reddit article on strategy - part of the reason it gets so fast is that you're not racking up enough KOs.

OK I guess I need to go read that link... I think in the match where I got 5th place I had 4 KOs when I checked the stats screen. (again it would be nice if the game explained this, or anything really)

Woo I remembered to hit record! I KO'd the right people at the right time so I had +100% attack power down the stretch, which is quite a luxury.

I’ve put about 3 hours into the FFIX deluxe edition. It’s been mostly positive.

I really like the QOL improvements. There are some annoying parts about the original game that they smooth over. Being able to fast forward and auto-battle makes learning abilities much less of a chore. Being able to temporarily make yourself invincible makes stealing boss items a snap.

The redone character models are really nice. The PS1 models were rough enough that the fine details were sometimes hard to figure out - particularly on side characters. This was later exacerbated by the small PSP and Vita screens I would try to play the game on.

However, they do throw some of the less-stellar backgrounds into stark contrast. There are some darker dungeons that look really muddy in comparison.

Tetris 99 has finally gotten me to try Nintendo's online service, and I'm quite liking the game so far. My highest rank is 8 at the moment, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pull off a full victory because things just get way too fast and frantic at that point and I panic.

I also need to try the couple of demos released last week. Lots of great stuff coming to Switch this year, which is good. I didn't play it much in 2018.

I'm more into the end-level stuff of Octopath even though I still have a lot of story left. I got the Sorcerer job. That was fun.

I've been working on Octopath since about November, with small breaks from it because life. I've finished a couple of the third round of stories.

I feel like I'm hesitantly interested to continue. The combat is good, but not fantastic like some people rave about. I enjoy good JRPG mechanics, but Octopath seems to also maintain the required grindy-ness of them, and I was never a huge fan of that. There's a lot of it I feel.

Most of the characters have interesting enough stories to tell. My desire to finish the game is waning though. I think I'll try to finish it so I can sell/trade it without feeling like I missed much. FOMO

I still find it funny that people bring up grindiness and I never once grinded in that game. I beat every boss except for the super final ultra optional boss that probably would have required I spend more time with character builds. Otherwise... no grinding whatsoever.

There have been a few pretty difficult bosses for me. The character's story we're on hasn't been used since their previous story arc, so they're quite a few levels below the rest of the team (some who are also quite a few levels behind my main, the Thief).

I have once or twice, after trying the boss a good 5+ times, decided to just return later when everyone has a few more levels. Because yes, there's always another story you can follow and return later.

I suppose my definition of grinding in this context is how everyone's levels can be so off, so you need to have them in battles. And I suppose also just the amount of battles that happen between travelling from one location to another, including the obligatory forest/cave/path to get you to the boss that will inevitably have 10 or so battles. It's not grinding in the truest sense, but it's a lot of required battling in every section of the game.

I can see that. I think after everyone's Chapter Two I started to not only swap them out, but I swapped out secondary classes as well, and I feel like that might be something people don't do so much of. It made a big difference going into Chapter Three, though, and as a result I think Chapter Two was actually the most difficult part of the game for me. Otherwise it was simply a matter of keeping the characters swapped in and out and choosing the best secondaries for that character and for the dungeon.

I didn't grind either, and I still did the optional advanced job bosses. I will agree there are a lot of encounters, and there's almost no such thing as a quick battle because you have to break them and probably save up some BP to finish them. I'm currently stalled out with three final chapters to wrap up.

I’m about 20 hours into Octopath. I’ve done two chapter 2s. I’ve enjoyed it but... I kind of feel like I’ve gotten what I’m going to get out of it? I don’t know. Trying to figure out what’s striking me differently about this than RPGs I’ve put 60-100 hours into.

I’ve been scouring the Internet for any tidbit of information on a firm date for Slay the Spire’s release? Any better internet detective out there??

I'm an interested when this comes out. I haven't played the game yet so I'd like to try it for myself. The best I could find was this from the 5th:

Which boils down to, not yet, we'll know more at some point!

Thanks for looking. Great deck building choose your own adventure style game. I played a bit on PC but held off, like I did with Dead Cells, when I heard it was coming to Switch.

I picked up Moonlighter a few days ago, and I'm loving it so far. I can't remember who sold me on it here but I appreciate the recommendation. It's a really fun game, and I'm enjoying the loop of dungeon crawling, selling my loot, and upgrading my gear. It really reminds me of
Steamworld Dig 2's loop. I've beaten the first boss, and I'm kinda taking my time getting some upgrades for my shop etc. before I try the second dungeon. To anyone who's played it, is the date important? Like, do you have a limited number of days to complete all the dungeons or anything like that?

I finished Captain Toad too! That was a lot of fun, I'm really glad I picked it up. I might pick up the DLC at some stage down the line if I feel like spending a bit more time with it.

Fiancee and I stared Degrees of Seperation tonight. Played for about 2 hours and we're really enjoying it. The puzzles have all been in the Trine / Brothers vein. Great calm couch co-op so far.

I'm probably the only person who got The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince aren't I? Well, I'll hopefully have some first impressions of it soon. I just couldn't resist that weird-ass wolf design.

It's on my Watch List for now so I look forward to hearing your thoughts. I like the art-style, and it seems really cute. :)

Alas, I can't recommend it. I played through the first world (of five, I think?) tonight, and while the still art is great, the animation isn't so hot, and the gameplay is uninspired. They don't really do much that's interesting with the premise. You could do a lot with puzzle design where one protagonist can't reveal herself to the other, but there wasn't really any of it on display. I doubt I'll keep playing.

Buy the art book, avoid the game. I hate this about NIS lately.

I thought Yomawari was interesting as a kind of chibi Silent Hill, but otherwise, I agree: NISA has been such a mixed bag lately. They've absolutely knocked it out of the park with great special editions with good feelies (something that Atlus has really fallen flat on over the same time period) but the selection of what they publish has been underwhelming, and even when the games themselves look interesting, they're weirdly priced.

I dont think so. I played through I think 3 of the dungeons and the game doesn't seem to present any time pressure at all or escalate any thing that would mean you can't keep up if you don't (for instance) raid the dungeon nightly or open your shop every single day.

Does the Switch version have the newer content? I think the most recent addition PC got was a stable of familiars who could join you for dungeons to give you different benefits. There were also some mini bosses added. Im curious how well the Switch version keeps up to date, since other games have a hard time keeping Switch in sync (cough Binding of Isaac cough)
