Yeah. It will also keep me busy for a while. I bought that plus another book on Amazon that looks fun. I might pry apart my Las Vegas set this weekend (or buy a second one) to start to mess around with the clear / empty space in the meantime. The technique they use to create what look like windows is really cool to me.

What is the cheapest way to get lego scooby doo Velma? She was in only one crappy expensive set so prices are 50 to 125 on ebay. Is there any cheaper way to get her? Maybe a custom built one? I'm not sure what custom mini figs go for or where to get one.

Bricklink (what Robear showed me the other day) says $45.

TBH when it comes to minifigs I would buy a knockoff

That new theme looks great. I love anything spooky!

I just finished up a really neat Technic model that came out a few years ago as part of the Lego 40th anniversary. It has to be one of the coolest models they've put out.

My daughter has gotten really into Lego recently (the Architecture sets specifically), and it's something that I'm trying to encourage. However, we don't have a big house or room to display all of these completed sets.

Has anyone had any luck selling used sets on eBay or perhaps somewhere else online? I figure if I can recoup the cost of some of the sets she completes, I can use that to buy new ones.

I'm meticulous about making sure I index all of the pieces before I box the set up, but couldn't a buyer simply claim a piece was missing and use that to require me to issue a full refund? I guess I"m just not sure if reselling these sets is worth the hassle.

I worry about that too... Anyone know the score, from experience?

Lego is pretty good about keeping its value over time but as a set you will only get super value from retired sets that are either super nostalgic like Star Wars, Tehnic, etc or bigger sets that are part of collections like Modulars. All of those types you can get close to new money if it is still an available set and usually more if it is retired. For example I bought both the Black Pearl and Queen Anne ships for >$200 (each) used when the new sets were around $80 because they were retired. A brand new Imperial Flagship is up in the $600 range. A lot of smaller sets you can still sell but probably not for the price that you purchased them and definitely not for close to a new price. A lot of people will sell that type of stuff per pound if you want to get rid of it.

My suggestion is to keep all the Lego and disassemble it. You'll have the instructions so you can also build it again to rotate displays AND you can maybe get into making MOCs. You can get instructions for MOCs or if you look into the different sections on a site like Eurobricks they have monthly contests for building things that can extend the Lego fun.

I am still mystified by the engineering involved in designing MOCs. Or even regular sets. Some of the gearings and support systems that are wrapped into vehicles are devilishly subtle.

That's why I collect MOC instructions from other people

You could also use those other parts to get into the GBC scene!

I have sold a bunch of used Lego sets and from what I remember I did not have to resort to eBay. I sold them here on GWJ and on ArsTechnica.

That video is amazing.

*eyes explode*

Lego Mustang

Looks great.

Just came to post that!

(Shakes Fist @ karmajay) DAMMMMMN YOU!!!!!!

Oh man I love watching these videos and seeing the crazy contraptions people put together. I really need to get some of those Technic motors!

Here are a couple shots of my first MOC in probably a decade. Working steering, motor pistons, and suspension for both the skis and tread. Not perfect, but pretty good. Getting back into Lego in these last few months has been so great. It works like stress relief for me.

I feel the same way. The stress relief part. I'd like to do more Technic, but I haven't found a set I want to buy yet. So far I just build Architecture sets or Creator sets. I find it really relaxing and distracting.

Sooo many cool Technic sets. The Bucket Excavator (although a bit repetitive to build, it's impressive as hell on the shelf). The Mercedes AROCS, probably the most intricate and interesting Technics build I've seen. Cargo helos. Giant cranes.

Basically, anything with a large gearbox (multiple moving part systems) is going to be a really fun build.

My wife's birthday gift arrived today.

Totally agree! The parts for that snowmobile came from a set from a few years ago, the Extreme Adventure vehicle. Super fun to build and has a ton of parts, so when you want to build something else you have a lot of options.

The history of the Rebel Blockade Runner owned by the Organa family began as a concept drawing for the Millennium Falcon, and has been seen in three Star Wars movies: A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith and, most recently, Rogue One, as well as both the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series.

The first set from LEGO came in 2001 when they released the UCS 10019 Rebel Blockade Runner, which became an immediate hit. Its second version was a Mini-scale build included in the UCS 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer set in 2002, and it wasn't until the tenth anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars line, in 2009, that aminifig-scale 10198 Tantive IV was added to the theme. Since then this blockade runner has shown up in the Planetary Series as 75011 Tantive IV & Alderaan (2013) and behind the fifteenth door of 75146 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar (2016).

And now, with great ceremony -as befitting such an important royal and ambassadorial vessel, LEGO has taken the Star Wars Celebration as the opportunity to announce that they are treating us to a new version on May 3rd, 2019!

In laws just arrived bearing gifts for me my son!

The dragon is cool, does it move with a crank?

The email announcing the Tantive IV was entitled "Start making room in the display case ..."

The set looks great, but I'm not a fan of the minifigure playing spaces. It makes the set looks small. I'm not sure really why it bothers me, but again, I still like the set.

I was expecting to be all hype for the Tantive, but now that they've shown it, I think I'm out. The proportions look all wrong to me. The mid section seems way too short, and the front section too big, so it winds up looking like a chibi Tantive.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of the UCS y-wing, and this isn't it. At least I get to save the two hundred bucks on it?

I still regret I didn't get the 4 ft long Super Star Destroyer when in a moment of weakness my wife said yes.

Similar tale here... Had it in my hands at Legoland FL. I was on vacation with my kids and my girlfriend (now wife) wasn't with us. Put it back on the shelf.

When I got home, she berated me for not buying it.
