Playstation 4 Catch-All

I think you can manually force it into "boost mode" to help with the sometimes chuggy framerate.

WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE?!?!

Have you tried rebuilding the PS4 database?

I've rebuilt my PS4's database. Thanks for the info. It seems to function a bit more smoothly. I expect it needed it considering all the little gameplay clips I save and edit on the thing.

I have a 1080p tv. How would Spider-Man benefit from a pro?

Thank you

I rented Spider-Man this weekend. So great. It's like the best of Batman Arckham and Assassin's Creed plus amazing writing and a gorgeous rendering of NYC. *chef's kiss*

I just got Spider-Man this week. So so good. And the Stan Lee cameo was almost as good as his appearance in Into the Spiderverse. Every time he shows up now though I seem to get stuff in my eye.

(and the fact that Insominiac put in accessibility options to do things like turn off QTEs. This is now the gold standard as to how to make you games work for the biggest audience.)

The ps4 will apply supersampling to 1080p.

So I replaced my PS4 with a PS4 Pro in the end. I tried rebuilding the database, but it didn't do anything to fix the problem. I saw the error again after the rebuild. Also it was having a terrible time reading discs of any kind, including movies.

Obviously the Pro isn't a huge jump on most games and I knew that going in. I just knew if I had to replace my system I might as well spend the extra $100. I just wish this had happened at Christmas and I had spent the money then when it was on sale all over the place.

Anyway, so far there have been a couple of noticeable improvements.

First off boost mode really helps with Just Cause 3. I don't know how much of that game I'll play, but I did enjoy it and was annoyed that at times it was basically a slide show when too much was happening on screen. With the PS4 Pro that smoothes out quite a bit.

Shadow of the Colossus looks really gorgeous in 4k.

Lastly, Spider-Man looks a lot better to me completely turned up. Maybe it's just how my new 4k TV handles 1080P vs. native resolution, but Spider-Man looks a lot more clear and vibrant to me. I mostly played that last night. I think it's going to inject new life for me in terms of that game.

So I got the email (it was in my promotions folder for anybody that uses gmail's information).

Top 3:
19 hours in Rocket League
4 hours in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
4 hours in Bloodborne (can't stop won't stop)

40 total hours of gameplay, according to them, though it clocks 27 of it as "local" and I don't play offline, so I'm not sure what that might be about unless I left a game running in the background or something? Curious. Maybe Borderlands counts since it was single player?

So obviously, I didn't play much ps4 this year.

Longest streak: 3 hours.

Days played in 2018: 24 out of 365.

I only earned 5 bronze trophies.

Sony calls me a "Funky Speed Demon." It's really too bad I already chose a website slogan.

Wait, what are these emails and how do you get them?

I'm kind of curious about my NBA 2k18 playtime. In the last few years my time spent on a traditional console has dwindled significantly. I don't play many long, story based games unless they're portable.

What I do play on a console, though, is NBA 2k. Every year, fairly consistently. And mostly online.

Last night I won my last game in the highest tier in NBA 2k 18 online play. I have a so-so winning percentage, but I've climbed every rung and I've played over 180 games total. By my rough estimates that pencils out to about 120 hours total, given around 40 minutes of game time.

That's the most time I've spent on any one game since Battlefield Bad Company 2. I'd be curious what it is officially, though.

PlayStation's 2018 Year Wrap Up link (I didn't get an email either).

It only seems to work for US/Canada accounts, so if you're elsewhere like me then you're out of luck.

I finally got that latest PDP remote. It's fantastic. Nice feel on the weight and buttons and button layout. I always hated using a controller when I just wanted to watch TV. Always loved the PS3 remote. To mitigate any battery use issues, I got 4 AAA Eneloops since I have a charger from some AAs.

Can the PDP remote turn on the PS4? Logitech's Harmony remotes can't or at least their support pages still say the same thing they've been saying for years, "Sony does not currently permit remote's [sic] other than its own to turn on the game console". But I wouldn't be shocked if that's out of date.

Yep! Just tested. It really is mostly a 3rd party controller with the form factor of a remote. You could probably try and play Dark Souls with it...

You would literally be all thumbs.

Hollow Knight: Silk Sonf coming to PS4 soonish.

Silk song is actually console exclusive to the switch unfortunately. Not coming to PS4.

Not entirely true. It's being released on both Switch and PC and the devs has stated more consoles may follow: https://live.engadget.com/2019/02/14...

I was just going by the tweets from team cherry which said it is console exclusive to the switch. Its a team of 3 so even if they do decide on those other ports I doubt "soonish" is in the cards.

That's pretty surprising, considering the original game came to Switch late, and I wonder why. I could see it being one of:
- Nintendo threw money at them
- The Switch version got them a ton of sales such that it makes most sense to primarily support it.
- The Switch version is the most recent, so they want to strike while the iron is hot with that install base.
- They worked on the Switch most recently, so it was an easier transition to continue developing for that platform vs having to context switch back to the others.

It came to switch before PS4 I believe not sure about xbone. I just remember debating triple dipping on it for PS4 when it launched but talked myself out of it.

Chaz wrote:

It came out for the Switch a few months before the other consoles and was originally announced as a Wii U game. So I'll go with:
- Nothing nefarious, the team just likes Nintendo

If this were the case I feel like it would have been a Nindie Highlight a couple weeks ago or part of yesterday's Direct. It's most likely this:

- The Switch version got them a ton of sales such that it makes most sense to primarily support it.

Indies are doing better on Switch than other platforms, so it makes sense to prioritize that over other consoles.

I'm not sure if you've heard the news, but games are selling on the switch by leaps and bounds more than the other consoles. SO most people are making that a priority until that bubble bursts.

I think saying just games is pretty general quote. Indie games certainly. Mobile friendly games certainly. First party games certainly. Huge triple A 3rd party games less so. I love my switch. I would not even consider something like Division 2 or Anthem on it "if" they were every released for switch.

I mean, evidently Skyrim did pretty well.

The thing is that we don't really have a good gauge for huge AAA 3rd party games. We have DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 on there, but each of those was released late and the visuals are, in some fashion, compromised. There's stuff like Dragon's Dogma and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice getting ports, but one of those is years old and has been ported to everything under the sun and the other is 2 years old and a AA game at best.

We don't really have a comparison point for big AAA 3rd party games (of the Western variety, at least), and likely won't ever since the Switch is under-powered.

Is there really a case that can be pointed to that has been triple A and received a simultaneous release on all the consoles for comparison.

Id be curious to see numbers for Diablo, Skyrim, Wolfenstien etc.. to see how they have performed. Even those though were all released well after the other versions.

I guess tales of vesperia remaster released on all platforms at the same time but even that is just a re-release.

Indies are really the only thing that seem to come out at parity with the other consoles and time and time again the switch version seems to perform better number wise.

I'm not saying the ports are as good I think the Assassin's Creed 3 remaster looks awful on switch. There is no denying there is an audience for more games then just 1st party stuff unlike past Nintendo systems though. The portability factor is huge.

Skyrim is how many years old? Yes it did well but at this point it can run well on your phone almost. The switch still has much lower power than the normal versions of ps4/xbone little long the Pro etc. I was not referring to triple 8 games 8+ years after launch.

Edit: I agree with portability being huge and big reason why I have bought several games twice on it. However, there is also no arguing it is under powered for cutting edge high graphic games.

I'm pretty sure there's a Wii thread around here somewhere to hash out this argument in again, yeah?

Argument about a Switch would be equally out of place in a "Wii" thread as it is in a PS4 thread.
