Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

It's been a long time since Nintendo was dependent on the success or failure of only one hardware platform. We'll see if that makes them more aggressive in their efforts to hit their sales targets or if the unified platform for software development begins to see results. As it is, the rate of first-party releases for the Switch doesn't seem to be much higher than in previous years.

In my wildest dreams this causes Nintendo to start making portable experiences for the Switch.

I'm all for full-sized games like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey, but I hope they don't abandon shorter, bite sized games in the process. I'd love a straightforward Advance Wars on the Switch that doesn't have any pretense. Don't go over the top graphically. Just make another 2D Advance Wars.

Well, if there really is a 2D Zelda, then that would confirm a lot of their 3DS and smaller teams will be focused on making similar experiences for the Switch. If Emily Rogers' numbers are right, then that means Nintendo can easily have one major release per month, which was roughly what you could expect at a minimum during most years. While some of their most productive would see multiple games divided between both platforms a month, they have a standard of at least one major title on console or handheld. Once their pipeline improves, then seeing one major release a month minimum wouldn't surprise me and would basically be what you could expect out of them.

Speaking of rumors and the current lack of Direct announcement for the 13th, Mother 3 localization was allegedly canceled due to potential controversial content. I never got to play far in Mother 3, so I'm really curious if there was much in the way of content that could get people outraged.

Sorry. Super Mario 5, then.

We're gonna at this a while, aren't we?

New doesn’t count. I mean one that still looks like a cartoon.

Man, check out those super realistic, not cartoony graphics they're sporting for Mario games these days. I can't even.

I mean, that doesn't look dissimilar to the Super Mario 3d Land on the 3ds I 100%ed, so that's fine by me!

*Now* I get why DS was hung up on NSMBU Deluxe. He thought he was launching the game but was actually accidentally starting the Super Mario Bros movie on Netflix instead.

Dude. Put down the phone/mouse and go buy Wargroove this instant.

It's Advance Wars, through and through. I think you'll dig the hell out of it.

Seems like mixed reviews due to a huge difficulty spike and a lesser version of Advance Wars? I hope I’ve misread the posts about the game.

Mixed reviews? It's not a new AW game by Nintendo, so it lacks the generally exquisite polish, it also lacks much in the way of innovation, but otherwise it's an AW game through and through. People seem to be quite happy about it. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't go so far to say it's getting mixed reviews.

Leg me amend my comment. My concern after reading reviews is I was left with the impression that there may be an unfair spike in the difficulty curve and the favorable comparisons to Advance Wars lessen the deeper one gets into the game. Many of the reviews I read seemed to suggest the ability for players to make customized maps may lead to a better experience than the single player dmapaign. Hey I hope I am wrong and I correctly read into the reviews I read. I was excited to buy the game but cooled. Please share your enthusiasm for the game as I’d love to buy it.
Thanks!

OH SNAP!

35 minutes, huh? I typically don't clock out of work until 5:30 but if I log in early...

Compare that to 2008's Wario Land: Shake It. Now that's how a 2D Mario game should look.

Nintendo's website drives me crazy every time I try to use it. How do I redeem a pre-paid gift card?

This isn't working...
https://en-americas-support.nintendo...

I found a link to this on the eShop's front page. I'm also logged into MyNintendo, though, so I dunno if you need to be logged into your MyNintendo account. I would assume so since it's all linked to your console and wallet and etc.

This is exactly the kind of stuff that drives me crazy. I'm logged in and click on your link and I get: Error Code 9001-1630

I’ve always just gone through the eshop on the Switch and entered them with the touch screen keyboard. There they have the courtesy to disable any characters that aren’t used in the codes, so you don’t have to spend time trying to tell the difference between O and 0.

Ok I logged out then the link worked. Then I put in gift code and logged in at same time:

Error Code 9001-1663
You can use a prepaid code at the time of purchase if you do not have the necessary remaining funds to purchase a product.

Okay Nintendo...

I guess I will try on the Switch when I get home.

Edit: For those interested you can get $60 gift credit for $50 at Newegg.

If you're running an ad blocker, try disabling it. I had a hell of a time with the eshop site not displaying prices or the buy button, and eventually figured out that it wasn't getting along with ublock. I disabled it for the eshop, and everything works fine.

Nintendo isn't alone in their web store being weird. PSN's website absolutely refuses to let me log in using Chrome on my desktop. It spins on the sign in area, then drops me back to signed out status. Signing in accepts my credentials, then does the same thing. I can sometimes get logged in by clearing all Sony cookies, but the next time I visit, it does the same thing. Works fine in Firefox on my laptop though.

Yes, their website is terrible for this stuff. I spent a good 10-15 minutes trying to figure out a way to get it to work before giving up and doing it on my Switch.

Is "Ninyendo" like "Micro$oft"?

Alas! I can only dream of being that good at puns.

Most of the typos were genuine, so I leaned into it.

Ninyendo. Micro$oft. $on¥.

The good news is that you can just write "Sega" because they don't make money.

I tried everything but then I gave up. Doing some googling their cryptic error is trying to tell me gift cards can only be used, on the website, when purchasing games. Very strange restriction but I think its just this:

I've never played an Advanced Wars, but I won't let that stop me from sharing my opinion.

I'm working my way through the Wargroove campaign and find it pretty fun. I've completed about 5 or 6 of the campaign levels so far and felt that the difficulty is challenging, but not overwhelmingly so. The art and writing is cleverly silly and I like the 1 second voice sound effects they use. There are even side quests in the campaign that unlock story and background codex entries. I thought that was a nice touch. During the missions, there are even occasionally events that trigger flavor dialog to explain a new unit arrival or something.

I looked at the user made maps, and there are literally thousands of them already. I don't know the quality, but there are user made campaigns already being produced.

So far it is scratching an itch I had for a quick strategy game. The light story elements are a nice icing on the cake.

Oh man, what a glorious typo!

I'd probably also change Nintendo Nin¥endo just so they too can get in on the symbols!

LESS THAN ONE HOUR UNTIL ALL MY DREAMS ARE FULFILLED AND I HAVE A REASON TO EXIST AGAIN!

God damn, those people have families.

Yeah. That confused me too.
