Old games out of the attic... which to play first?

Well.. the plus side of a divorce is that my lovely ex-wife brings boxes now and then with stuff that belongs to me. Last week as a particular highlight, as she moved a box inside with the complete Soprano's on DVD and some good ol' computer games.

Apart from bingin the Soprano's. I am wondering. Shall I (re)-start

Diablo III
Sword of the Stars
The Movies
Rome Total War
LOTR, War of the Ring
LOTR, Battle for Middle Earth II
Baldurs Gate II / Shadows of Amn
Freelancer
Wow Vanilla / The Burning Crusade

I think I only touched The Movies, Rome, Freelancer, and WoW.

Suggestions are welcome.

Also, there is a urban myth that the silver disc of Battle For Middle Earth II has some value?

Wonder what she will bring next...

I keep thinking about trying my copy of Freelancer for the first time, but there's lots of good to choose from in that list. So I guess Freelancer is my pick.

I enjoyed what I played of The Movies back when it was released. Probably would have played more if I hadn't seen something shinier.

Coincidentally, I've actually been playing a bit of Rome lately.

Sword of the Stars - a good, different space 4X. Might take some time to get used to it, there's a lot different from the typical MoO clone.

I agree with tboon. That's a rather unique game.

D3 is still relevant! And good!

Prioritize Sword of the Stars and Battle for Middle Earth 2.

I'd go for Diablo 3 first, if you've never played that.

Wait on Baldur's Gate 2 until the GWJ CRPG club gets around to playing it.

I just downloaded MedianXL Sigma on a lark. I'm pretty much done with vanilla Diablo II unless they remaster it, but Median is a total conversion mod that changes everything, it's pretty much a second game.

Just fired up battle for Middle Earth II.

It looks kind of clunky after the ooze and graphics of Subnautica, but it's nice to be able to built a sh*tload of walls without painstakingly searching for some titanium in the weeds.

Sword of the Stars
Rome Total War
Freelancer
Wow Vanilla / The Burning Crusade

Those are the four that I have experience with. I still have SotS installed on my PC because it's good to run through every now and then when I get a strategy itch. If you've just got the base version, do yourself a favor and grab the Complete Version from Steam, which is 75% off right now ($2.49).

I've run through Freelancer about 3 times, it's a good game, with good pacing, and a decent story... I'd definitely say it should be towards the front of the list.

Rome Total War I bounced off of, but may go back to. I think my rig was too outdated at the time and it was struggling to run though.

With WoW... I played WoW through those same eras. Quit in BC, came back for a couple months during Mists of Pandaria, and haven't played since. If you want to give it a go, paying the active subscription will boost your account up to one expansion behind the current (Battle for Azeroth). If you want to be current, you need to pay $60 for BoA, but you could get a feel for it for just the subscription fee. However, the game has changed far too much for me over the years. They removed the skill trees (for the most part) and the game just feels watered down for me.

Yeah... I think I keep Wow in my fond memories. Trotting up and down Gank Forest just to show my stead to everyone and myself in particular. Sweet memories.

Just installed Battle for Middle Earth II, did the Windows 10 fix and the put the ini to be in native resolution.

I must say it aged rather well if you play it in 1920 by 1080. The part that make me chuckle was the fact that the inter-cut scenes look now less good than the actual gameplay.

Burned Lorien to the ground. Alas, Mouth of Sauron was not able to place his lips on Galadriel.
The battle itself was no complete Dagor Bragollach... I freed some giants, but when my armies thinned I recalled my Nazgul and Mouth, while Celeborn followed them.

It was fun to see him slip through the trees, unhindered, trotting up to my fort. As Fingolfin did Ages before him to Angband. The difference was that Mouth of Sauron totally slaughtered Celeborn, allthough backed up by two legions of Goblin archers - just to be sure.

No Eagle was able to rescue his body, and my spider defences still feast upon his remains, laying eggs in his once clean elven flesh.

Levelled three Nazgul up to level 4, the Mouth stuck at level 3. Read somewhere this could come in handy, as you carry them over.

First time I played an RTS since AoE and RA... Starcraft was always one step too far.

Glad I like it. Up to the next slaughterbandersnatch!

So the Grey Havens appeared to be some sort of elderly dementia haven. For the tactics and buildings these woeful elves had, made no sense. Maybe it is because I play it on the easiest level, but even then they just act like sitting ducks.

I will try to install the zoom-function before tinkering with the difficulty, because the map is now 3:4 zoomable which is bar to none.

Buckland is waiting!

So with the zooming out bigmap fix the game is even better!

Trashed buckland as a Zerg-swarm... didn't count on Grima Wormtongue coming in, who in his turn trashed my camp. Frabjous day calhoo callay, up for the re-run.

Not sure if you're using these patches:

https://t3aonline.net/download/

But they're great, add a lot of features, and add back multiplayer.

Oh, this widescreen patch should also work:

https://www.the3rdage.net/item-792?a...

Now I wanna go through reinstalling the thing.

Widescreen was allready there, thanks!

Strange, in the middle of BFME II and Subnautica, I somehow decided to fire up an Civ III game, huge map, pangea, roaming hordes... Seems I need some variation on the Subnautica-grinding, BFME II RTS
