Apex Legends - Catch All

Is it just me or is the community pretty nice overall?

I almost never use my mic when solo queuing in any game, but everyone I've played with has been lovely?! Maybe it's just because it's a new game and people aren't invested, maybe it's because there's no strict rank or MMR, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Maybe it's because you get seven kills and play the most helpful character while carrying your team to a dub?

I am terrible but having fun

Anyone playing on PC? I'm mostly on PS4, but Origin Access gave me better freebies so I'm willing to play both especially with rumors of crossplay.

PC here: paladintom on Origins.

You can also link your Steam ID in settings if you have friends there.

PC here, having a lot of fun but still raw. It makes sense to learn more than on legend at a time since you are not guaranteed to choose them every game. Heading to Youtube to learn their skills when I get time.

Are the PC folks using Discord? I'd love to hook up with some GWJ folks to try this out. What times do folks typically play?

Every night there's rooms filled on discord. Add me @ Min0taar on origin!

Hopped on with a friend and various random last night. As first timers we were terrible of course but we went in with the right attitude.

More of a “fault” with the genre than anything else but I’m still getting to grips with the drop strategy and dealing with the reality of simply not having a basic loadout - including a firearm - the moment I enter a match.

My fundamental shooter skills on gamepad are also quite rusty. Think I will help pad out kill counts for people for quite some time!

There's a Battle Royale channel on the GWJ discord where people meet up for Apex.

Getting to the ground as soon as possible is key in a BR game.

Mino's post bears repeating.

Kind of a random question but are you guys seeing a significant difference in hours played when looking at the game in Origin as opposed to rough hours played? Mine states 49 hours and there is no way I played that much yet. I played 2 hours max but I also noticed my characters don't have many kills or levelled up so noone I think hacked me. Anyone else experiencing this?

So how does the in-gam party system work if someone on your list is already playing the game?

I saw Min0taur for instance but didn’t know if I would interrupt his match.

Lol, thanks ranalin. Yeah it wasn't until my 5th or 6th match when I realized as jump master I could push up on the stick and barrel us down a lot faster.

Look forward to getting in some games with GWJers and being shown the ropes.

I am on PC: EdgarNewt on Origin.

GWJ folks usually start getting on the PC in decent numbers around 5 pm PT or so. Most nights it crests around 9 pm PT and then the die hards go until exhaustion. I am usually not able to get on until about 9 pm PT.

Meet up on the GWJ discord channel and can group up there before jumping into the game.

I'm maverickzy on Origin.

I'm beaugle

I like the robut

I'll check in there tomorrow (or tonight). I'm iphoneappz2 on Origin...feel free to add me!

Also my apologies to any of my fellow PS4 players. I'm on sporadically cause I'm in the process of preparing to move at the end of the month. So I'm using the game as a break between grad homework and packing.

I've added a bunch of the names listed here on origin. I'll try to see if you guys are hanging out int he discord also when I'm on.

So, I have not partied up on PC yet, but on PS4 you can join a party while they are in game and it will just tell you they are already in a match. You will just be able to join them when they return without any issues.

I've started playing some on PS4. Feel free to send an invite if you want to join up. I've enjoyed what I've played so far.

Ditto.

But I'm not sure whether I have the patience to stick with it long enough to 'git gud'. My experience so far has been:

Land in an isolated spot;
Spend 8 minutes running behind my squad-mates picking up items;
Be discovered by another squad;
Fire a couple of rounds, doing minimal damage to my opponent;
Get obliterated in a few shots.

I think I've played 6 r 7 matches, and have achieved precisely no kills. I don't think I'll find that fun for long.

It doesn't help that - on two occasions - I was put into a match with only one other squad mate. If Respawn change nothing else, I think that needs to be addressed. The game is merciless enough without playing with 1/3 less firepower. I'll give it another whirl next week...

Thanks, Ranalin

Lots of good advice that probably applies to lots of Battle Royale games. The big ones for me are practising with the weapons in the training mission, pinging enemies and getting into combat early and often.

I will give it another go next weekend.

I can't stress this one enough. As you said earlier you certainly need to decide if you are willing to put in the effort to get better at a game. If you have not played other BR's certainly a bit of a steep learning curve. However, it will take you even longer if you avoid fighting.

It's also more fun that way, nothing in this game has been more annoying than spending 10 minutes sneaking around only to die quickly. Feels like wasting time. Go on, fight, die, go in again, fight die.

I've been coming to this conclusion myself. By default I play BRs very strategically, trying to land somewhere isolated to gear up, and slowly advancing with the circle. That's great for getting second-place finishes, but if you want practice with combat so you get better, it's not helpful.

Can't remember if I said this already, but it took me a long time to get used to TF2's pilot combat for whatever reason, and this is similar.

I have won a few matches, but it was because I was carried and did not contribute at all. So, they were wins, but they didn't feel good. Getting a knock down here and there and dying early has been much more rewarding.

Well, it looks like my snap judgement about Apex Legends was wrong. What were the odds!

Downloading now. Grumblegrumble...

You can certainly get top finishes without learning to fight well. However, it will generally mean you had help from teammates or get lucky. They will also be a lot more sparse.

My opinion for learning these games always is

Spend 1-5 games dropping remote and just learning how to loot and basics.

Spend X hours dropping Hot . I don't mean in specific hot zones but somewhere you will probably have an early fight. Somewhere with 1-2 other groups than you. Do this until you are comfortable fighting and with majority of weapons.

Then you can go to normal play style's to whatever you find most fun.

Personally and I think similarly to Ranalin/Kazar/Crinkle who I play most often with in past BR's. We prefer to drop somewhere that it is us and maybe 1 other team. Loot. Then generally go looking for fights. How aggressively probably depends on how fast/slow the last game was.

That being said, once you learn how to fight, actively avoiding fights midgame is viable strategy. However, if someone jumps you or at the end eventually you need to fight.

Also one thing in all BR's but more in this one. If you end up getting bad loot early. It is often rare to find completely un-looted places later. So fact is the worse your loot the more you should look for fights. The better your loot the less you need fights to upgrade. Most likely the teams you face in the final circle will have been fighting and have well upgraded.
