Apex Legends - Catch All

Add me up! Plan to hop on this weekend... which means I am already half a lifetime behind the curve already!

I too will be downloading this tonight in order to play over the weekend and provide quality cannon fodder for the 5-day veterans!

With the addition of Heavenly Sword and Metro Redux, my pile is now as high as an elephant's eye, but I simply cannot maintain my pile resolve in the face of such epic GJW enabling.

See you Saturday afternoon. I'll be returning from a boozy lunch too...

Played a few games of this tonight and I'm sold. I liked Fortnite but really wasn't keen on the building aspect and this is more traditional fps. I have it installed on the Xbox at the moment as that is connected to the big telly, so who is on the xbox1?

I am, as are TheWalt, 1dgaf, and ChrisLTD, to name a few I know are playing this.

Apex Legends is all about the drop ship mini game, believe us.

It's such a crap shoot of "Will there be no other squads landing there, or will there be three?"

Does anyone know or figured out the meta for jumping in Apex? I've seen teams seem to get some kind of boost near the end when they would be right next to us. Losing a lot of fights because they're on the ground before we are.

I believe that firing your rockets speeds you up but reduces your ability to turn. If you go slower you can coast longer and have more control over where you land.

I'm not that familiar enough with the map yet, but I think prefer to wait longer, and try to land where other teams aren't. It usually means scrounging more for supplies, but I found it more fun (and tense) to try to trek across the map.

However, last night my jumpmaster immediately jumped and landed among two other squads and I was able to down two people by punching them!

Apparently there's a way to travel really far after jumping. On Reddit (I can't find the thread) they were calling it "dolphin diving" where you dive normally until you slow down, then fire your rockets and aim back up. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Fire your rockets?

My internet has been down for 24 hours and will likely be down for another 48. I'll be behind the skill curve. I guess I'll have to quit playing Now.

Yellow Numbers: Headshot (not sure if there is anything to indicate if armor was involved or if headshot advantages only work once armor is broken)

The yellow number confused me because there is a gold level armor, but gold level armor is level 3 armor with a bonus so from what I have read, purple text still shows up.

Thank you for this! I thought it was Gold Armor as well.

I also learned that double clicking middle mouse button indicates danger. I have tried to mark an enemy before and missed, placing a lets go hear ping.

Adding ya'll tonight on PSN if we aren't friends already. Time to look for that Sony Gold microphone cable!

My middle mouse button has a tendency to double click, which I know annoyed my squad greatly as I was frequently pinging non-existent enemies. I need to rebind it.

My middle-mouse button doesn't work so I rebound Ping to the F1 key.

THANK YOU!!

Not very intuitive given we are not wearing wing suits but rather have rockets. But that info will help get us win more of the hot drops.

Mine is the same, so I unbound the mouse binding and just left it to pressing F now.

You will NOT be disappointed with this video.

Just a passing comment:

God DAMN this is a quality release. I'd practically given up on multiplayer online games but I played for close to 6 hours straight today.

So many little quality of life mechanics, it plays so smoothly. It's all the best bits of Overwatch and PUBG/Fortnite and then some. Wow.

Edit, hell yeah! Got my first win. And did it with flare.

I was thanked for carrying the team

Congrats on the win Unicycle. I also got my first win last night... was not the one doing the carrying... this game is still all kinds of awesome.

I've been trying to settle on a character I like, I really want to like Wraith but she seems very tricky to play. My first Bangalore game was also my first win so far, her airstrike is alright, and her smoke grenade has a lot of utility, but her sprint boost is her dark horse best ability as far as I'm concerned. I'm really learning to appreciate the simple but effective passives. Hearing warning whispers in your head seems great, but it doesn't actually help all that much, at least this early in the game's life, where everyone just blasts away at first sight anyway, negating how useful it is.

I can’t figure out a good use for Wraith's ultimate. In fact, most of the ultimates are kinda useless in the heat of battle.

My son subs to Origin Access Premier and got some perks including enough coins to get another Legend.

https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legend...

It looks like you get the same for a one month basic sub. (Which I’ve been considering just to play the Battlefront 2 singe-player.)

FYI I converted the Blackout channel into a generic BR channel so we don't have to worry about the manual requests

I'm playing on Xbox. Shoot me an invite or just jump in my party if you see me.

Last night Wizardmode and I couldn't find a third, so we queued up and got a random. As soon as the drop phase started, we got invited to a chat party with our third, which is usually a good sign of a teamwork-minded player. It turned out we had gotten a lady who mained Lifeline and was good at using her healing drone at appropriate times and calling in care packages (I'm still struggling to remember to use character abilities).

Anyhow, we won that game, my first win in Apex! Afterwards I said "I guess we could stick together for another match or two" in a joking manner. We ended up having a great night, and got a second win towards the end. None of us were superheroes or got anything like unicycle's seven kills in one game, but we worked together and it worked out.

One weird note: In both our wins, we ended up bunkering down in the same room! I want to say "What are the chances?" but I'd worry that we'll find out the ring algorithm is messed up right now or something.

I found that it’s great for two things. One is to help your team cover more ground. While your team is looting you move ahead and make a portal for them. Not game changing but speeds up the looting. Also I always make one whenever we engage an enemy by postioning them where you can get another angle on the enemy. This is more for long distance engagement.

The warnings are amazing. Situational awareness in a BR is a valuable tool. People new to BRs tend to blast away at the first sight of someone, but you want to pick and choose your fights so they're to your advantage.

Yeah, I imagine it'll be more useful once people learn to restrain their impulses to fire their SMGs at people over a hundred yards away. As things stand currently, the warning almost always comes paired with a hail of bullets.

So are people meeting up in Discord and going in on PC? I've not been playing MP much in awhile, but am kind of getting the itch. Never played any of the BR games yet. Got to set up my keybinds, etc.

Yea we've had 4-5 groups going most nights since launch.

I will add xbox folk, if you see me online just throw me an invite/party chat. Although I'm in England so time zones may differ.

This as a wonderful and hilarious must watch. One former and two(?) current Overwatch Pros. Amazing game awareness and luck.

Is it just me or is the community pretty nice overall?

I almost never use my mic when solo queuing in any game, but everyone I've played with has been lovely?! Maybe it's just because it's a new game and people aren't invested, maybe it's because there's no strict rank or MMR, but I've been pleasantly surprised.
