Apex Legends - Catch All

Wingman I agree with there, but the G7 never feels like its hitting that hard for me.

You can see the numbers. It's correct.

As you know, I’m worse at shooting than the Grand Tour crowd

Nah, you're not that far behind. I've played a couple hours every night this week and I'm only about a quarter of the way to earning enough xp to get another Legend.

I'm having a blast though, so I may throw 10 bucks in this weekend to get Mirage.

It takes dedication - I'd say you need to put in at least 5 to 10 matches (most of which you'll die without ever downing someone) to start really getting the feel for the equipment, movement and shooting mechanics.

But man is it ever worth it. Loving this game.

Hit me up on origin, I'm Min0taar on there (likely I made a dupe acct with Minotaar and just forgot the login).

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there any plans to let people play solo vs. groups of 3?

I'm personally interested but deathly allergic to online team gameplay.

You can always go out on your own and leave the team behind...

As far as I know there are no plans. It definitely seems designed around squad play.

Nothing official but everyone assumes there will be at some point because all the other BRs out there allow it.

Its fun for a once in a while challenge, but the way this game is set up you're at a massive disadvantage without team mates and with the way they added abilities to the mix its even more of a disadvantage than normal.

Add to that the frustration of learning a new shooter and all that comes with it...

Thanks for the replies, gang.

Guess I just don't play well with others, lol.

As online-phobic as I am, the fact that I'm even considering checking this thing out speaks volumes.

I watched some gameplay and the presentation looked awesome. Then seeing the diversity of representation with the main characters in the select screen just sealed the deal in regards to my interest.

Related to this, Bloodhound is a woman right? I've seen several sites refer to this character as a "him", but I think that character is a woman based on voice pitch and tone.

EDIT: I was wrong, I hadn't seen this before.

"In an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Apex Legends community manager Jay Frechette revealed that one of the characters, Bloodhound “is non-binary, or at least non-specified, in terms of gender.”"

Compared to many of the other BRs, the non-voice communication system in-game works so well, I've had a ton of successful games where no-one has said a word, so if part of the thing you hate is voice chat with randos ... this game pretty much sidesteps the issue in a very well thought out fashion.

Surely you can find people on GWJ who are worth playing with!

Also, Bloodhound's VA sounds 100% male to me. If anyone actually cares, that info may be out there somewhere.

I'm generally pretty online and squad based phobic, but weirdly this game seems to short circuit my anxiety around those issues. It's so slick, quick and charming and players seem pretty chill. The mouse pinging means people don't usually speak at all and everyone is pretty good about sticking together.

I can't speak to a month's time, but now is really a good time to hop in.

Seconded. As a female who has usually kept her mic muted, this is nice for me to not even have to worry about communicating verbally.

Maybe I'll try to shadow a few gameplay sessions.

I'm sure the GWJ online community is one of the friendliest faces in online gaming, but it's more of a series of mental hurdles for me.

I'm not shy at all in public and I don't have any kind of anxiety issues (that I'm aware of anyway, lol). It's more that my brain doesn't really align with co-op online gameplay structures.

I've always been a soloist in the gaming landscape, desiring the freedoms to play at my own pace and on my own schedule at any given moment. That's why I prefer the anonymity of solo online gaming. I don't feel beholden to play at a certain skill level and I can drop in & out at my leisure.

Maybe I'm just a flaming narcissist more than anything else!

But this game does intrigue me though. Which is odd because I've never felt a draw to BR otherwise.

Well getting in on the ground floor is always attractive. Any purported skill level discrepancy is smaller than people make it out to be, as the ground rules haven't been fully felt out.

It's through a respirator so could still be anyone

Non-binary.

So I have been playing a fair amount last couple days (not Ranalin level but decent amount). I'm enjoying my time. It's new and different. Yet, for some reason that I can not put my finger on I'm not "loving it".

Of course!

Yep!

I am pretty sold on this game. I expect I'll be playing it for quite a bit. Friend me up on Origin: EriktheRed1

Well, if this article is accurate, I was wrong!

Played a few games of this tonight and I'm sold. I liked Fortnite but really wasn't keen on the building aspect and this is more traditional fps. I have it installed on the Xbox at the moment as that is connected to the big telly, so who is on the xbox1?

I am, as are TheWalt, 1dgaf, and ChrisLTD, to name a few I know are playing this.

I’m up to playing this with some Goodjers.

Do we have a place to meetup and play? Discord? I’m on Xbox and PC. I know back in the day GWJ had a ventrillo server.

Did some digging on what the color of the numbers mean since I found that I didn't know fully what was happening in combat. Typically the color of the text tells you what level of armor the person you are hitting has, but no indication on how much it is charged.

White Numbers: Level 1 armor (between 1 and 50 extra hp)
Blue Numbers: Level 2 armor (between 1 and 75 extra hp)
Purple Numbers: Level 3 armor (between 1 and 100 extra hp)
Red Numbers: Armor out of power or not existent
Yellow Numbers: Headshot (not sure if there is anything to indicate if armor was involved or if headshot advantages only work once armor is broken)

The yellow number confused me because there is a gold level armor, but gold level armor is level 3 armor with a bonus so from what I have read, purple text still shows up.

I think on Xbox people just invite each other to chat parties. That's what I do, and that's how I've been invited a couple times this week.

Long ago I added basically everyone on GWJ to my friends list, so with today's tools it's very easy to see who's playing what and who I should invite. I also just learned how to use the LFG tool on Xbox, which I believe can ping all your friends briefly to tell them you're trying to play a certain game.

I generally don't have problems playing with strangers but am furious when a game defaults to voice audio on. As soon as I join a game "Bro.. you have a mic? Bro".

I alt-F4'd right on out and considered uninstalling.

Came back in with the voice-to-text turned on, voice off, and managed a game or two. is there a way to disable chat completely? I feel that the ping system is pretty good for communication and I never want to hear or read stranger text. As a comparison, I play Rocket League with Team Only Quickchat, and have been playing that way basically since it released.

I will assume every human stranger I play with is an idiot and I don't want to listen or read anything they have to say. Happy to follow their ping around and take that advice though. Also happy to play with any GWJ folks provided you accept the fact that I'm the worst PVP FPS er out there.

Me too. I straight up muted all voice chat after having a bad experience. As for text I didn't see an option to disable but that brothers me waaaaaaaaaaaaay less than voice chat.

Apex Legends is all about the drop ship mini game, believe us.
