Rocket League Catch All

Looks like it went your way 4 times in a row

Yeah I have fallen down the rabbit hole again. God RL is just the best. Toxic as f*ck sometimes but such a great game. Plus I love reporting hat speech.

Edit: *Hate speech There is an emoji word combo I never thought would come up in life.

hat speech? Like if someone says "at the drop of a hat" or "hats off to you"?

I mean, sure they are kind of dumb sayings but reporting someone for it seems a bit harsh.

I honestly don't understand how I have played this game so many hours over the years and I'm not bored at all. It never stops being fun and challenging.

Gol dern hats...just being worn and stuff. People flagrantly throwing them on the ground....stomping them in anger.

In a related note, is there a way to only get quick chat from teams? Playing rando pub games sure brings out the worst in the world. You bump a dude off camera and they go toxic quick. Let alone they try some fancy maneuver that looks like a pass you accidentally steal the ball or try to help them as they look like they are humping the pitch and the throw a fit that you ruined their youtube clip.

Yeah it is one of endless skill and attempting to understand why I still can have games where I whiff on the ball or can't do what I want to try to do pretty endlessly. But then you have that moment where you become the car and it is magical. I have not played in 6 months or a year but the controls are so natural. Came right back.

On the toxic part, I’ve had two cases recently where I reported someone for harassment and then in the very next game they’re my team mate! I find this very odd that they aren’t just thrown into a list of people you don’t want to play with. Of course, the toxic behaviour carries on into the next match too (both times they’ve been opposition in the first game) and I get the full force of it. It also means I report them twice in a row.

I had not done anything in this game but be an anchor on my team. We were counting down to lose 4-3, and then...

I saw you playing last night and almost messaged you and then you went idle. Then work happened.

There are a few options for limiting text chat

I cannot encourage this enough. Drastically improved my RL quality of life. I don't have to see the crap other people spew and I don't get sucked into it.

Me thinks I will be updating that setting.

So i have started uploading a few replays to ballchasing.com to study gameplay. I'm really digging it. Wish this kind of stuff was built into the game somewhere. Its pretty indepth.

I'd like to see a stat around bumps/demos as they relate to shots and saves. For instance, can it track a bump/demo in the offensive third when a goal follows in the next 3 seconds?

Thats obviously a fake replay, I don't see a single octane being used.

I'm not sure what bothers me more, when a teammate is toxic and says something like "you really suck and shouldn't play Rocket League anymore" or when a teammate is a little less of an a-hole and says "when you take a bad angle at a ball thats called ball chasing". That 2nd comment happened on my last game tonight. We were up 5-0 I was in the other teams zone and the ball got cleared. I turn and notice we have no one back, the ball is pretty much dead center of the pitch and I can see a guy from the other team coming straight for the ball. I hit turbo and get there just before the other guy but hit the ball hard into the wall, it bounces off the wall, the player that made the comment to me missed it off the bounce and then the team scored. Yeah, it was a bad angle to hit the ball but I watched the replay and I'm pretty sure if I didn't do that then the other team would have had a straight on empty net shot anyway.

yeah neither is helpful, what are you supposed to do in a lose lose situation? Unless you're my partner and we know how to play with our styles quite well then feel free to coach me. Dudebro telling me how to play RL who doesn't do what I hope they do in each situation allows me to give no f*cks what they think. I am stuck trying to interpret their moves and most of the time left guessing.

When playing with randos I am not as aggressive as I like to play as I am constantly trying to give them room to play and circling back to defend then rush up to make a play where I can.

I wouldn't want to turn off the trash talk. If a team member is wasting his time typing instead of playing, I want to know it, so I also know I shouldn't expect him to actually do anything.

In today's "obvious news that is obvious" Rocket League won the Steam award for Most Fun with a Machine.

They posted a short thank you video about it:

That's all it takes?

So what's with all the Maverick GTX cars? Is that the new hotness?

I lose power for 3 days and come back to this..... jerks.

These air carries are incredible. The only mutator on here is unlimited boost. Both are keyboard players.

LED's video where he air carried the ball for 500+ seconds before he lost concentration and dropped it:

If you watch the keyboard overlay in that second video you can see how many tiny touches it takes for him to keep such exact control.

Well, yeah, that's true.

Near post rotation is usually bad and we all do it sometimes but many people make this mistake ALL THE DAMN TIME and it is infuriating. Here is Musty doing a pretty good job of explaining the issue.

Yeah, I'm very guilty.

Interesting. Ive always thought far post rotation was obvious, and the reasons for it are just how he described. At least in my head I feel that I am doing that more often than not, especially on defense or if the ball is at midfield. When I play pubbies in plat 3 diamond 1 where I’m ranked, people rotating near is one of the biggest complaints I have.

What I did find interesting is the emphasis on it even deep on the offensive side. In those situations I find myself just trying to take the fastest way back because I’m afraid I’m going to be last man back. I actively try to avoid colliding and try to go up walls to get out of the way. Sadly I know I grab all the boosts(!!), but I did pick my title just to warn everyone.

That being said what I know and what I do are probably very different things. Since I don’t see myself play I’d be curious if that is what people observe. I think I always try for the far post but I probably don’t actively aim for it unless I’m between my goal and midfield.

Yeah I always thought this was obvious too. With that said, I would say 70-80% of my games my 2 teammates never rotate out of offense anyway. They will both just stay in the offensive zone and I end up playing midfield. That is in plat 1/2 though, I'm assuming by the time I get to diamond people will understand the concept of rotating on offense.

That would be a false assumption.
