It looks like I'll be proposing ways of minimizing MRI distortion in the cranium around pockets of increased air (e.g., around sinuses) or retinotopic mapping around the foveal confluence.

I recognize some of those words!

Congrats on getting the key to the inner sanctum. Have fun, but don't forget to go outside.

Cross posting this, but I got to interview Sarah Elmaleh, Athem’s female Freelancer, for Syfy Wire.

Check it out!

On the bright side, I got a key to the lab! I'll be spending most of the year in here. My corner is nowhere near as lavish, but it's going to be nice to have a private little space to study.

That is a real nice office space! I didn't even get one when I did honours, so I'm super jelly. Congrats!

Prelude: Trigger Warning: this hour long standup video, Rape Jokes, includes some brief sections with frank talk about sexual assault.

This right here is a-maze-ing: https://www.cameronesposito.com/

I don't remember where I learned about this video, but I remember it said something about it being a cool way for lgbtq and feminist allies to get a lesbian's perspective on sexual assault. A more complete description is that Rape Jokes is an amazing hour of confessional comedy in which the brilliant Cameron Esposito describes her sexual awakening, with hilarious detours into her Catholic upbringing, sprinkled with segments of clever observational comedy.

I can not recommend it enough. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go find every piece of Cameron Esposito media available on the internet.

Put in an application for a part time job at Wegman's at the beginning of the weekend, had my phone interview today, and then 4 hours later they call me asking me to come in for an in person interview next week. Not gonna overhype this, but I'm really happy and want to share, haven't felt this self confident in years.

I would spend my entire paycheck at the cafe there. Congrats!

Thanks! I'd be in the pizza section if I get the job.

Nice good luck. They are known for being a great place to work.

My daughter, with two of her friends, launched her first zine!

It's a Yuri on Ice Superzine, and they have apparently produced a variety of content and merchandise.

She's pretty excited. I just overheard her telling my wife that they are close to $1000 in revenue in the first week. I know she has been working on it a ton.

Not trying to violate any TOS, but I know a lot of folks here enjoy Yuri on Ice.

Nice!

Congratulations! Fingers and toes crossed for you!

My love is that a Wegman's is coming to the greater Raleigh area so i get to visit that sweet sweet cafe again.

I ran across a recommendation for Honey for Firefox, an extension that puts a coupon-seeking service into the browser (for Amazon and around 30,000 other stores). It points me to the lowest prices on Amazon, and makes it's money from manufacturer rebates, so there's no fee. So, cool. I set up my account the other day and forgot about it. It's very unobtrusive.

Today I went to re-order shoes from Road Runner Sports, which is fantastic, but pricey. I found the pair I wanted at $140. Ugh, but okay, I need them, my feet are weird (very high arches and wide). So I want to my checkout, and a box popped up to the right. It said there were 10 coupons available. So I clicked it and it chewed on all ten and a moment later I had a new price.

$81. Seriously. No tricks, no gimmicks, no hidden fees, no membership costs, nothing. Just... Install, set up an account, click and done.

So, if you've heard of Honey, it's a really useful extension for Firefox if you like, I dunno, money. I'm shocked but definitely grateful. Amazing.

Probably selling your data. But hell so is everything else these days. Might be worth it.

I hadn't heard of it before but it looks legit, thanks for bringing it up Robear!

As far as the data selling there is a Snopes article from 2017 (yes really Snopes) that says they do not.

Relevant part from one of the founders:

Honey makes money by getting a commission from merchants and then giving a portion of it back to our user as cash back. We DO NOT sell or share your data in any way.

They say they don’t sell your data, so it’ll be a big legal deal if they do. They make their money off of manufacturers incentives.

There's a Chrome extension also.

Really? I searched for it but did not find one... What’s it called?

Robear wrote:

Just Honey: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...

It didn’t show up on a search, but when I went to Joinhoney, it was there. Bizarre. But okay.

I'd recommend a quick read of Honey's privacy and data collection policy. Not that anything there looked like an obvious deal breaker, but it looks like they are tracking every URL and domain you visit as well as clicks within sites that involve Honey.

In addition to information that you share with us, Honey’s products automatically collect certain information to enable Honey’s products, including the Extension, to function properly and to help us better understand how our products work on various devices and browsers. That includes the type of devices you use, your device’s unique IDs where available or set, your IP address, your operating system, the type of browsers you use, URLs and domain names, how you engage with websites you visit when using Honey’s products, error logs, and other similar information. This information also allows us to upgrade and improve your experience.

They do specify that they don't collect browser searches (semi-moot since they are tracking URLs you go to from the search) and financial information.

We collect information that we believe can help us save our users and members time and money. This does NOT include any information from your search engine history or from your email, bank or credit card accounts. That means while you are checking out and Honey is saving you money, we are only collecting information about products, pricing and savings, not your financial information.

Looks like you can adjust some collection settings, though.

We have also given members the ability to control the data we collect, while still continuing to use our products. This information can be adjusted in the accounts settings pages, but limiting the information you offer to provide may impact Honey’s ability to provide certain products.

I'm tempted to install it, disable it, then enable it when I've got an Amazon cart ready for purchase. I wonder how well that would work.

I recommend Firefox nowadays anyway. I’m trying to wean myself off of Chrome but old habits yada yada.

...And it turned out that the coupon code picked was for members of a group to which I do not belong. I'd advise looking over the coupons (via the tiny icon in the browser extension list) before picking one and entering it, rather than letting Honey do it automatically, so that you know whether you actually qualify for something.

Good to learn this up front lol. I was able to get a smaller discount through my VIP membership, again Honey let me know that was available.

I hear that! I'm trying the same thing right now. Importing all my chrome stuff was easy enough, but I've yet to see how well it all syncs with my phone. It seems chrome has wedged itself too easily into my life!

What's the issue with Chrome, again?

It is made by the largest advertising company in the world and tracks everything you do.

Ding ding ding

It also has a pretty awful memory leak. If I leave chrome open on my locked work computer over the weekend, I come back to multiple gb of ram used by it.

Interesting. I leave Chrome running on my home machine eternally. I reboot it once or twice a month.

Same here only I reboot even less than that. Currently sitting at 157 days 13 hours and 58 minutes on my Hackintosh. Chrome is eating 6.9 GB of RAM though... but OneDrive is using 8.18 GB!?!?!?!

Speaking of onedrive: Is there a way to stop onedrive from trying to load every time i boot up my laptop. It really doesn't have the spare anything to have useless things running in the background. There doesn't seem to be a "just don't load this" in the one drive interface itself (or i missed it)
