Titanfall 2 Catch-All

I'm completely in if that's the case. I've missed playing this game and would redownload it in a heartbeat.

Saw that, with tomorrow being the day they announce and launch simultaneously. I'd be all over it. I loved Fortnite a year and a half ago, but I didn't like building. Haven't tried any other BR games yet but I still like the concept.

Without Titans, which tanked my interest.

Same. Titans might have been tricky to integrate into a BR game in a balanced way so the first guy to get one doesn't automatically win, but it would really have set them apart from every other BR game.

Its official (sorta)

Tomorrow you can expect to see a New AAA Battle Royale by @Respawn, and the Two-Time absolutely dominating it. Yayayayaya #ApexPartner #Ad

It's always the game that comes out of nowhere that gets me hooked. I remember when PUBG did that two years ago.

Wait, no Titans at all? Kinda defeats the purpose?

Indeed.

I'm a little bemused by this announcement. First, a game mode with no Titans doesn't seem to offer a competitive advantage over BR modes in new games. Presumably, this going to require an entirely new suite of multiplayer maps.

Second, what's the revenue model that supports this level of ongoing development? I believe that all the original Titanfall 2 DLC was free. So is this going to be paid?

Third (and linked to my second question), where are Respawn finding the money for this. I assumed that they were full utilised on the new Star Wars game.

I picked Titanfall 2 out of the bargain bin in 2017, and really enjoyed the campaign (there were some stand-out levels in there) and my one evening of multiplayer. But I've not been back since. A Titan-less BR mode sin't hugely appealing to me.

I couldn't find any specifics last night, theoretically I saw mention of some Super Bowl ad but couldn't find it, just a bunch of YouTube reactions that I wasn't about to subject myself to. Regardless, Vince Zampella said they'd be streaming this morning and that it's evidently not Titanfall 2, but is its own thing.

Which would explain the lack of Titans.

There is a significant contingent of people who still play TF2, I think, including myself who enjoys pilot vs. pilot only modes. So a game that has no Titans in it would be okay with me.

If it had titans, the best players would win even more frequently than they already win BR games. Advantages would snowball, except that a snowball grows gradually, and this would be a ten-ton killing machine literally falling out of the sky.

TF2 was a great game where you spent most of your time outside of a mech. I'm very interested to see what they show.

Here's the Twitch channel where the announcement will be: https://www.twitch.tv/playapex

Edit: Thread here - https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

Being outside a mech was my bread and butter. I'd just use the auto-chip to let my mech watch my back. I know at that point most people figured it's better to not even drop it, but if I had the chance to crush another Titan, I'd take it.

I enjoyed Titanfall 1 for the combined Titan and pilot game play; hopping in and out of the Titan as the situation demanded. Titanfall 2 didn't get that balance right for me. I'm more interested in fighting in and around Titans than pure pilot gameplay.

I popped in excited to maybe see a trailer only to have my interest completely evaporate at the news it's pilots only. I hope it's a success for them but I can't see myself playing.

I usually stayed outside the Titan as well. Sad but true that the autopilot could fight the Titan better than I could.

I loved the pilot movement so count me as tentatively interested, waiting to see the cheevs.

The thing is for the pilot parkour movement to work, it seems like they have to have maps way smaller than most BR games. I mean, you can't wallrun out in the middle of a field or gently rolling hills where there are no...walls. So that would in turn lead to quicker matches, which I guess some people would appreciate and which would help set this apart from other BR games?

The pic of the map which came out doesn't really look smaller, though.

The main competition here is Call of Duty's Blackout, which has somewhat smaller maps and faster matches. That's likely also why there aren't Titans.

Weird, this whole time I thought it would be a free DLC for Titanfall 2.

Well, it's a spin-off that isn't about Pilots so naturally no Titans. I think the design challenge of including Titan-like things would be interesting but it doesn't really support the theme & tradition of BR. Scavenging parts to build a Titan that may move too slowly into the next safe zone? *shrug*

I'll throw some support behind this if it means bankrolling Titanfall 3.

They're not making Titanfall 3, at least not any time soon.

"We're doing a free to play game, with essentially loot boxes, after we were bought by EA, and it's not Titanfall 3. It's the perfect recipe for a marketing plan to go awry, so why have that - let's just ship the game and let players play."

I mean they at least know what they're up against.

Based on this quote, though:

It takes place about 30 years after the events of Titanfall 2, in an area called the Outlands, featuring an eclectic bunch of characters who are all competing in "the Titanfall equivalent of a blood sport". Hunger Games, but more sci-fi.

This sounds more like a new IP attached to Titanfall for cynical business purposes.

I mean, I hope this is successful for them but, I don't care, and knowing that the only other thing I have to look forward to from Respawn is a Star Wars game with Jedi and lightsabers, the two most over-played elements of the franchise since "extended universe" became a thing, I'm... pretty disappointed.

Well, I gotta hand it to 'em, "People will be pissed if we say we're making a F2P lootboxfest instead of TF3, so we'll just let everyone -think- we're making TF3 and then release this instead" is a helluva PR strategy.

You know what had people pissed? Releasing TF2 in a crowded schedule (Battlefield 1 and COD:IW say hi!) where it lost a golden opportunity to find and keep new players. Thanks a bunch EA.

Do you consider all spin-offs to be related to an existing storyline only for "cynical business purposes"? I'm generally pleased when cool settings are expanded.

EA came out and said Respawn actually picked the release date. I am not a big defender of EA but I was pretty shocked when I read that.

Eh, from what I played of Titanfall 2 and saw of Titanfall nothing about the character's looks or the sound of the setting seems right for the Titanfall universe. Then again, it's not like it's the most detailed setting to begin with, so who knows?

I thought many things, from the structures to the targeting reticules, looked like TF2.

As far as I can tell after a few rounds of play:

Outside of the guns and one character being a Marvin, there's really nothing to link this to Titanfall (well, there's a few recycled art assets from TF1 and 2).

no titans, no parkour(not even a measly double jump), no story element.

game play wise it feels like a fortnight clone but replacing the building element with Overwatch-like characters and powers.

I might give it a few more rounds to see if I get more into it once I fully grok the UI and controls... but it's probably going to be a pass for me, I just find the pacing of BR games to be terribly boring (action is too infrequent yet final).

Also, I played several rounds of TF2 last night. Not many people on, but enough to get games going. This game is so fun.

Oh that's why I was confused. I don't think one of you mentioned the actual name fully.
I tried a few rounds of Apex Legends with some goodjers and it seems neat, but not really my style of gameplay. I do like the visual, but as mentioned it does look like a reskinned Fortnite.

This has me wanting to see if anyone is playing TF2 still, as well. My friends and I played a ton of it for a couple months.
