General VR Catch-All

You can now play PT in VR!
In case you just want to die of heart failure...

I've been loving playing Blade and Sorcery lately. It's really a fantastic hack-and-slash experience -- and the notes for the beta versions make it sound like the physics and combat engines are both getting major overhauls in the near future, which is exciting.

I've been playing around with streaming, and even managed to get a decent video of my most recent playthrough (on a Rift).

How much content is there in Blade and Sorcery? It looks fun.

I've now gotten to try a few games/demos that do third person games in VR. It's a really cool effect. Now all I really want is a LEGO game or Mario game in VR, because that seems like it'd be a perfect fit.

What you’re looking for is Astrobot. Super strong Mario 64 vibes. The best VR game I’ve played that isn’t first person.

Still fairly early access, but there are 3 levels with 3 waves of enemies, and multiple difficulty settings. The enemy types vary from level to level. There are also a half dozen or so different weapon types, plus magic.

Oh, I've got that and will probably start in on it soon. I'm hoping more stuff like those is in the works. I finished Moss last night and that was a super charming experience.

Nice. I think I’ll try it out. Need a break from shooty games.

Cross posting from the trading post.

Anyone try the PC version of Polybius? I wanted it when it first came out on PSVR, but it took so long to come out for PC (Llamasoft is one guy), I lost track and missed that it came out last month.

I saw it release, but I've got history with Llamasoft, and it boils down to Jeff Minter basically remaking the same goddamn game over and over again, and I'm soooooo boooored of that one game he keeps making.

Sidenote - TIL learned off Wikipedia that Jeff Minter has an appearance in the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

Just got Knockout League over the weekend. Don't know what this says about my physical health but my arms were SORE after 20 minutes and my heartrate was at level of a good run too. Fun game with a really good sense of immersion.

Haha yeah, I've played basically all the Punchout games since the Nintendo, and it was really crazy to play that style of game in VR. When the first opponent walks up to you and he's SO CLOSE to your face, it's really a different experience.

Im curious if the same is true after a few more sessions. My experience with intense VR so far (The Climb, Beat Saber, AudioShield) is that the first session or two is sweaty and heart-poundy while subsequent sessions are far tamer.

I've found the opposite is true with Beat Saber. The better I get, the higher I push the difficulty, the sweatier I get. Playing on Expert now, I'm considering it as legit exercise.

Yup. I played for about 45 minutes yesterday after not playing for a few days, and my arms are a bit sore today. It's especially true if you're trying to go for a higher score. You need to make more exaggerated swinging arcs to get maximum score for each note.

Beat Saber was less exercise for me when I got to Expert. My body naturally found more efficient movements than 'swatting at flies'. I found I could twist the wrist/core more and move the whole arm/body less.

I went from hopping around like the hulk trying to smash stuff to bruce lee standing in-place twirling nunchucks. I've scored A on expert, but expert+ is a big leap up.

I'm still getting like C's on Expert, and quite a few songs I can't clear without no fail (which pushes the score down to about a D). I tried one song on Expert+ and thought it would be impossible. Of course that's what I thought when I first tried Expert....

Obligatory link to the video explaining how the scoring system works...

I'm at the point of just starting that transition to Expert+. I've set the "make song slower" option on, along with "no fail", and I'm just starting to figure out the easiest song. Not a hope of doing it without no fail yet, but I'm making progress.

Thanks, I have seen that video. The C ratings aren't because I'm not swiping, it's because I still miss a fair amount of blocks altogether. Expert is still pretty tough for me.

Starting with "slower song" checked helped me a lot with that transition. I left that on until I could do the easiest expert song close to mistake free.

Just saw this early access trailer for Magic Realm Online. Looks promising!

Played some Moss. Was not prepared for cuteness overload. I like it a lot so far. I'm not a big puzzle gamer but it all seems quite intuitive so far, with no "well how was I supposed to figure that out?" moments. And it just looks soooo good. #2 game on VR for me so far, after Beat Saber.

Played a few more minutes of Moss earlier today as well and agree with everything you said. Just found out about Quill's "burden".

That knuckles controller looks pretty fantastic. I get the feeling they will be pricy.
The crazy thing is I see numerous applications for non VR as well.

At my place of work we managed to get a couple pairs of Knuckles controllers as beta testers. They are definitely really cool. They take everything good about the Oculus Touch controllers and go at least one better. Being able to open your whole hand and have the controller stay there is great, and their ability to tell how far open your hand is and which fingers specifically are up and down should make for some really neat game mechanics.

I picked up both Polybius and Minotaur Arcade Vol 1 on steam. Right now they are oculus only as they didn't have a vive during development. afaik they have gotten one and are working on it.
Polybius is, as all of Jeff's games are, a visual overload.
I highly recommend Minotaur Arcade vol 1 too. Gridrunner in vr is what everyone thought being in an arcade game would be like in the 80's.
I'm looking into making a vid to show what I like about the game as I find it kind of scandalous that it hasn't gotten more coverage.

I just upgraded my Graphics and and i should be able to run VR. I am thinking the Vive mostly because I like the idea of the controllers.

I should have the space to do this but I am not sure how to get the lighthouses set up at good angles. My first thought was to buy light house stands but those are not cheap. I am open to ideas for this.

Also my graphics card only has one HDMI out. It does have DisplayPort out so I am thinking I might be able to get a cable for this as I am not sure the Vive comes with one. If I have to get another cable any thoughts on optimal length?

I am epileptic so this is a big jump for me and I want to make sure I get all the technical stuff right to reduce the risk of any issues.

Also I really want to try Moss.

Thank you.

I've got my lighthouses on speaker mounts that are screwed into the wall. $15 for a pair, and doesn't take up any footprint.

Vive needs an HDMI port and a USB port. Does your monitor support Displayport? If so, switch that over and use the HDMI for the Vive. As to length, remember that you only need cable from the back of your machine to wherever you're putting the link box. The headset then connects to the link box with it's own bundled, fairly long cable.

Moss is the sh*t.

That's good to hear since if I buy this then moss is going to be the most expensive game I own.
