NFL 2018: Conference Championships

I still don't understand why no one ever seems to double Edelman on 3rd down. Brady always throws it to him for the 1st down...

Cordarelle Patterson as a WR isn't exactly who you want to be hanging your season on.

Edit: This is aging well so far.

Because you might leave Cordarelle Patterson open if you do that.

I agree, you gotta cheat towards Edelman in that situation.

Oh gawd, here's the game.

Wish I was wrong.

Damn

Sigh.

Whelp, can't wait to see what Aaron Donald does in a couple weeks.

So, you guys want to do something two weeks from tonight? Looks like my schedule just cleared.

I'm sure it's a tired, worn out argument, but NFL overtime rules are dumb.

I just asked my tabletop gaming group if they want to play some dudes on a map that day because I'm now freeeeeeeee!

More CK2 for me.

Yup, I hate the offense didn't touch the ball in overtime in the playoffs.

I think KCs only strategy going into OT would have been to refuse a coin toss.

Elect for Rock paper scissors instead or something.

Y'know what? I may not watch the Super Bowl, but that was one of the most entertaining games of football I've seen all year.

So even if it was a disappointment, I'm glad I got some real excitement. Just too bad this story wasn't happy end.

I was also expecting to be wrong about KC scoring with too much play clock left when I came here and complained about it, but for once I'm reassured that my observation was shared. I guess I'm learning!

Same. My wife wants to go visit some family. Sunday will be a great time to be driving home in the car for 7 hours and not have to see any of this trash.

Rams don't even belong. But anybody but the Pats. But... ugh. Just can't deal with it. I'll stay out of the super bowl thread so I'm not even tempted. See you guys next season.

Early early early early prediction: the post Super Bowl headline shall be "Rams To The Slaughter." Can't decide if it's in the Boston Globe or LA Times.

Agree it was an exciting game to watch! It would be poetic if Brady loses his last Superbowl to the Rams though. Only better if he was going to lose to the Giants one more time.

THE CLOUDS HAVE PARTED! I'LL SEE THE BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIC ECLIPSE!

His last? Hahahah.

If I wasn't lazy I'd go dig up quotes of people saying he wasn't going to make this one from weeks ago.

This is not how you apply reverse jinx people.

haha well I think if he wins this one he may call it quits. Or it Gronk decides to retire.

Just cancelled my YoutubeTV account b/c TV sports are over until next September! The Empire just saved me a bunch of money on my subscriptions! Today was a great day!

Sigh...

Everybody has said I pretty much hat I was saying all game.

The one thing that everyone seems to have missed was Chris Jones going out of the game. He THE load in the center of the DL, and missing him was enough for Brady to setback on track.

The refs sucked, but, as usual, I saw plenty of bad calls go the Chiefs way, too.

I don't think Reid mismanaged the clock. Mahomes held the snap off until 1 second on the play clock. While kneeling once or twice might have helped, it also made scoring the TD much harder. I think they had to have the TD there.

Super bummed. Went straight to Netflix and watched the Fyre documentary. Decided to enjoy someone else's misery for awhile.

But I think the team is well positioned to improve on defense. they have a lot of young talent, and I'm not going to spend much time being upset that my team made it to the AFC Championship game and lost in OT. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year. There is a lot of great football coming to KC in the next few years.

And, no, I'm not watching freaking Super Bowl is two of the most loathsome teams in the NFL. Might as well start the offseason thread now.

Man, yall really don't like the Rams. Did they kill your cat or something?

That game really just came down to who won the coin flip. Still can't believe the non-call from the early game though.

Edit: This is pretty cool. I can't remember Brady ever doing this before.

"Tom Brady just quietly approached a security guard waiting outside the Chiefs’ locker room — and asked if he could see Patrick Mahomes. Brady was escorted into a room where he spoke briefly with him. A very clear display of respect from one incredible quarterback to another."

I dunno what negative politics might be going on with the Rams or their administration, so I can't comment on that. I'm just apathetic about the team and don't expect them to stand a chance. I'd rather find out that they lost in a headline than spending three or so hours of my life watching them lose. And if they won, sweet! It's just that the Rams, specifically, draw no passion out of me. In fact, I'm a bit even more upset because Eagles beat the Rams, but here they are beating the Saints and it's like... nah man, should have been us (which I'm sure is what every fan says of every team that's been knocked out of the play-offs).

You might also have the whole "narrative" thing. I mean, while my brother still holds a grudge against Andy Reid for the Super Bowl lost fifteen years ago, I look at Andy as having that Eagles connection and thus have an interest. There's also something about "the hot young quarterback coming up and taking on the old legend" that makes for a perfect Hollywood sports movie of generic but enjoyable underdog measure.

I don't know enough about the Rams to expect or care about any such story.

I will say, though, that watching him play yesterday, I got the feeling that Mahomes isn't as great as the hype was making him out to be. Boy did some incredible stuff, but he also seemed to crumble under pressure a lot. I wonder if this is how the rest of the country felt regarding Eagles' hype of Wentz.

Everyone crumbles under pressure, which is exactly why Brady is back in the Super Bowl. I don't know what magic the Pats O did to keep him so clean but it worked.

I actually thought Mahomes looked pretty good given how much pass rush he had to deal with. He did what he needed to do to tie the game at the end then lost on a coin flip.

Looking at previous Chiefs beatdowns of the Pats Hunt was a big factor. I wonder if losing him had more of an impact than it appeared earlier in the season.

Super Bowl thread. On a Monday! Why not?

I’m looking for the off-season thread...
