Borderlands 2 Catch-All

Ha! Well, even if I can't join, glad I inadvertently brought people together. Besides, random public games can be entertaining. I did the Wildlife Preserve mission with three Psychos, and it was a breeze. One even indicated a plasma caster that was a pretty significant upgrade to the only other one I've found.

Maliwan Plasma Casters are the bee's knees. Dahl and Hyperion are decent too. Bandit Plasma Casters are too inaccurate to use at anything other than short range, but they pack a wallop at close range -- you can treat them almost like shotguns with a deeper ammo pool.

Yeah, the first one I found was Bandit, this one Dahl. Alas, the Dahl was shock, while the Bandit acid, which I find a much more useful damage type. Somewhat less alas, but notable, neither are as helpful as my Sandhawk.

So news of a new Borderlands coming out and a need to dive into something different than Slay the Spire (which had been my go to game for about a year) motivated me to boot BL2 up for a replay. It's been a few years.

I'm having fun. Starting from lvl 1, going through the game mission by mission. But I've looked up a few videos as a refresher and for some build ideas, and I'm getting pretty annoyed. Even videos described as a build new players or the best general build always seem to start with "for this build you're going to want a Bee Shield and Gronk Nozzle which you can get from farming..." Dude, I'm level 11 and trying to decide where to put my next skill point.

What's your class? I may have some insights.

Playing Maya/Siren. I mainly was just trying to figure out if there was a particular skill I should be aiming to unlock by level 25/30 that would make my leveling experience go smoother. So far I've just put points in the increased gun damage and increased shield skills in the left tree.

Just do whatever sounds cool. Respeccing is very painless in this game.

I've only completed Maya on Normal Mode, not TVHM or UVHM, but I was mostly Cataclysm with some healing skills from the harmony tree, since I'm so rubbish at these games I need as much survivability as possible.

Play Gaige the Mechromancer ;P
For Maya I will have to look up her tree on the intarwebs for a sec.
I went the right tree: flicker, helios, cloud kill, chain reaction, reaper, blight phoenix and ruin
So much elemental damage that is versatile for all types of targets and can save your ass in FFYL.

You are kinda making me want to fire up BL 2 again. Last time I tried it didn't last very long of hold up well for me.

I was playing it a few months back trying to complete all the achievements, but I ran into some areas where it just wasn't possible to solo and it looked like multiplayer was dead on Xbox One.

That was the other class I considered, and I’m very tempted to start over with her. I just want to run around and kill stuff without too much frustration and Gaige seems like she would let me do just that. I just remembered enjoying the siren class in both 1 and 2 so that’s what I went with this weekend.

You're in luck, that's my primary. fang is right, focus on the Cataclysm tree, and get Ruin, it's immensely helpful. Also Cloud Kill will carry you for while. Scorn is useful but not nearly as much as Ruin, and I don't care for Thoughtlock. Also, not specific to any builds, but the Pimpernel and Sandhawk are very, very good, and simple quest rewards from the Captain Scarlett campaign.

I feel that the Mechromancer takes a while to really open up, but once it does look out. Was running with this build for a while using a Firehawk shield and a nice Jacobs shotgun that was one shot and then reload (so no accidentally reloading when trying to pick stuff up). Constant Novas from me and DT and lots of Anarchy until it hit max Anarchy at which point it becomes nearly impossible to hit anything that isn't right in your face.

In addition to being an awesome skill, Ruin also has one of my favorite pieces of flavor text. I almost never play with Scorn -- it seems inferior to Ruin to me in terms of both power and fun.

It's actually pretty easy to get good guns for Maya. Once you unlock Sanctuary you can tip Moxxi to get the Good Touch and Bad Touch (Good Touch is repeatable, Bad Touch only once per playthrough). They're Fire (Good) and Acid (Bad) Maliwan SMGs (purple rarity). Even better, they're Moxxi weapons, so they heal you for a portion of the damage you inflict while wielding them.

The Bee is, well, the Bee. It is, of course, stupidly powerful. Everyone should definitely get a turn playing with it. For bonus points, pair it with Sandhawk, Pimpernel or even Lyuda. But, in the long term it's not nearly as fun as other playstyles.

If you're looking for a fun (and funny) way to play Maya, try a Blurred Trickster build and stack Chain Reaction. It's a lot of fun and quite powerful once you get the hang of it.

I didn't realise those remasters of BL1, 2 and 0 were out so soon (the 3rd)! Might have to finally sit down and have a run through BL1 again after all this time.

The remasters of 2 and 1.5 have been out for years, they are just getting even more remastered updates. I am actually looking forward to playing through the first game again despite how much I hated that game when I decided to 100% the Achievements (the Claptrap DLC had some bullsh*t collection Achievements).

end of game spoiler to make the collection very easy if I remember correctly

Spoiler:

the last boss is the big Ninjabot Claptrap or something? The one that spits out mini-claptraps that explode? Well, just find a spot on the map (I think maybe over by the original fyrestone entrance) where they can't get close enough to kill you and just...walk away for a while. Come back and pick up loot, should be lots of the stuff you have to collect, rinse, repeat until achievement popped.

I have a HOTAS plugged into my computer, as well as a controller and obviously a keyboard and mouse. Is there anyway to disable the joystick and throttle in BL2 so that I can use my keyboard and mouse to play? There doesn't seem to be an option for that in the menus, and it's driving me nuts because it's totally unplayable right now.

That is what I ended up doing eventually

So, Steam shows I have all the dlc and downloaded, but when I look at DLC in B2, it shows purchased but not downloaded? Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?

Try verifying local cache. Right click game in your library and choose properties.

Thanks, giving that a try.

I had the same issue, and eventually had to completely unplug my HOTAS to be able to play.

After a whole lot of searching I found the solution. In the WillowEngine.ini file in WillowGame\Config\ there is a line that shows "AllowJoystickInput=1", if you change the 1 to a 0 it works perfectly.

So I finished the main game at level 30/31 and played through the Tiny Tina DLC finally and it was so good. I seem to remember there being an enemy in that DLC when I tried playing through the first time (5+ years ago) that would just start leveling up if you didn't kill it fast enough until it was unkillable. So either they have rebalanced the game since then, or I was playing too high a difficulty at too low a level. I didn't encounter any such difficulty this time around. In fact, I found a Bee Shield at level 30, and now have embraced that play style with this item. It's a lot of fun.

Currently I restarted on True Vault Hunter Mode and have made it to Sanctuary at level 38.

I think there are enchanted skeletons that, if you don't pull the sword out of them after you kill them, they come back leveled up?

Also these:
https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/...

"Boost raises the level of the other dragons by 1 each time he lands."

Ah I found the thing I was thinking of in the game. It was Warlord Grug and/or Warlord Turge. Both of whom have the ability to " level himself and others around them by one level. He can do this five times, at which he turns into the Duke of Ork."

I just found Warlord Grug in The Forest, and he leveled himself into a level 43 Duke of Ork while I was level 38. Lucky for me, he got caught in some glitch on the map and couldn't chase me, so I was able to spray 100s of bullets into him until he died.

Put on your oven mitts, potential hot take incoming:

Dragon Keep is really grating for a lot of reasons. Too many melee enemies, too much waiting for tedious dialogue to play out, the foundational joke is good, but you still have to play that joke, and Roland was a dick to all my characters, I was relieved when he died. It's lucky the grenade and class mods are cool, it raised some crucial drops, and everyone demands a grog.
