What are you playing this weekend?

Probably Xenoblade Chronicles 2, with Smash Bros Ultimate as a change of pace.

I got that for Christmas as well and am trying to avoid starting it and fragmenting my "current" games list even further.

You may or may not have heard this, but it is REALLY good.

Destiny 2 and hopefully more pass the controller Hollow Knight. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up playing some Lumines on the Switch either.

X4 Foundations

I have a full evening to myself tonight thanks to a bout of the wobbles so I'm thinking Tacoma, Rime and a lil God of War.

Jumped back into some Dead Cells, but I think it's time to give it a rest. Might start Hollow Knight or Uncharted 4. Both?

Ys 1

Oh no! I've fallen down the rabbit hole. Looks like I'm going to dive right into this series. After finishing Oath, I really wanted to play Origins...But to do so, I was told I should play 1 and 2. Welp. Playing 'em all now I guess.

The (in)famous bump combat is really interesting. There's no attack button, so you need to hit the enemy off-center or from the side/rear. If you run into them directly, you'll suffer a lot of damage and be knocked back. Hit them right, and you bulldoze them backwards. I thought it sounded bad, but it's actually a lot of fun. It works really well. And the music. KICKS ASS.

It's the best digital card game I've ever played, and it comes close to my physical favourites (Magic, Netrunner). I can't play more than a round or two a day, but I've been loving the free drafts. It's genuinely amazing, it's just a shame Valve didn't stick the landing.

There's a few half-baked ideas and a bunch of little niggling flaws. I dearly love it and want more people to play, but I fear it will take the game going F2P before that happens.

I heard no such thing!

I’m hoping to play RiME tonight, hopefully some more Pyre. We’ll see. I’ve got my hands full and barely enough spoons for anything.

I've only played Ys 1&2, OIF, and Origins, but the series has never lets me down when it comes to music. I've toyed with the idea of going back and getting Ark of Napishtim when it's on sale, but never got around to it. I absolutely want to get to Ys 8 once it gets a bit cheaper and I've knocked a couple more games off the backlog, though I'm not sure if I want it on Switch or PC.

And if you like hard bosses, Ys 1 will deliver.

Spoiler:

Steam tells me I played it back in 2014, but I still remember how hard Vagullion (the bat boss) and the final boss were. Vagullion in particular was the point where the game told me just how much disdain it had for me.

You're in luck, Ark of Napishtim is currently on sale on GOG.

You made me go down a weird rabbit hole of what version to play Ys on. PSN glitched on me so it never says I bought it but it is on the download screen but it won’t download to the vita directly. The steam version has timing issues with better than potatoe PCs. I could go through and mess with it but the kids are awake so I don’t have the time to mess with it. I own several versions of it. Playing it the psp.

I was in the mood for some easy thrills so have been playing a bit of Onrush. It makes a great first impression but starts to fade after a few races. I want to love it for the originality of its car classes and its race modes, but the car physics just feel a little off. Using my old Burnout instincts to take down other drivers, half the time I would end up taken down myself, without really knowing why.

Pretty sure it would be an amazing game with friends online, since a lot of the game revolves around team strategy, but I think I'll be heading back to Paradise City for my next sugar hit.

Oh nice, hope you enjoy it! I'm almost done and I'm pretty happy with the whole experience.

Life is Strange 2: E1 and Abzu from GamePass on Xbox One.

Diablo 3 is one of the best games of all time. Giving it a go is not even remotely a big risk.
I've heard nothing but extremely positive reviews of the Switch port.
The couch co-op adds a party game wrinkle to it or something to play with a significant other.

I've put about five hours into it so far this weekend. Having a great time!

Would it be recommended that less experienced players stay on the lowest difficulty?

Would it be recommended that less experienced players stay on the lowest difficulty?

No. You are not locked into a difficulty and it is very advantageous (loot, gold and xp) to play the highest difficulty you can handle.
If Switch is like PC then normal difficulty = complete pushover.
Try expert or master difficulty. If it gets too hard you can dynamically lower the difficulty.
You won't lose progress if you leave the game, raise the difficulty and re-enter.
You should be able to handle higher difficulty so long as you use your blacksmith to keep your equipment current and the enchanter to reroll a main stat on an item that doesn't have it. (or to increase a low main stat roll or to add vitality or regen)
The diablo 3 thread will be overwhelming but feel free to check it out and ask questions:
https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

Crusader is the slowest class to start off with fresh.
Witch Doctor and Necro get pets very early which helps offset damage to you. (=easier to survive higher difficulties, elites and some bosses)
Barb, Monk, Crusader take 30% less damage inherently.
All classes are incredibly powerful and viable in endgame.
All classes make the whole greater than the sum of its parts in co-op. (even 2-4 of the same class)
Have fun!

I have had renewed interest in Dragon Age Inquisition and started a fresh play through earlier in the week. Downloaded the GOTY edition on PSN yesterday to get the DLC in the cheap so now I feel pretty invested.

God of War... not the page turner that I expected it to be because of Dragon Age interference...

Thanks Fang! That's good to know. I'm getting through most encounters without taking any damage, but I was worried that maybe I was just being lulled into a false sense of security. I'll up the difficulty!

fangblackbone wrote:

Of course it is... Wanna guess which class my character is?

Thanks for all the tips, once I'm a bit further into the game I'll check out the thread.

For sure, I was having a blast until the bat boss came around, never got past him.

I've been bitten by the bug again...

(I'll be playing Heroes of the Storm)

A bit of Persona 5, a bit of Dragon Age: Origins, maybe a dash of Algobot, and then also a real time management game: cooking up some pasta sauce!

More God of War. So much fun!

Some Persona 5, some Dead Island, some Dead Space 2and a bit of Timespinner.

IMAGE(https://news.xbox.com/en-us/wp-content/uploads/Pinball-FX-2-for-Windows-101-938x528.jpg)

Humble Bundle sales let me fill out my Pinball FX 3 collection, so I'll be flipping balls around the Star Wars tables! I've only spent time with Starfighter Assault so far (which is excellent) but I'm keen to see why everyone loves the Force Awakens pack. I may have to get around to watching the new movies now...Oops.

IMAGE(http://images.nintendolife.com/screenshots/20058/large.jpg)

Continuing my surge of interest in Gameboy titles, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is getting a lot of play. I've consistently been amazed at the amount of game packed into some of these cartridges. While many Gameboy titles felt limited and simply un-fun, this feels on par with other Mario platformers of the time. It's weird and unique, with some pretty creative levels and mechanics. It feels shockingly complete given the hardware.

Otherwise, I'm torn between starting Nier Automata or Ys Origins!

I will be playing...work. Keep working. Even though you're on holiday, keep on working. Please let me live vicariously through you all!

This weekend I will mainly be playing Diablo III: Eternal Collection. I'm having a great time with it so far!

IMAGE(https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/images/06_screenshots/games_5/nintendo_switch_6/nswitch_diabloiiieternalcollection/NSwitch_DiabloIIIEternalCollection_01.jpg)

I'm sure that I'll also be continuing to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. (Let's just take it for granted that I'll be playing Smash at some stage every weekend.)

IMAGE(https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/images/06_screenshots/games_5/nintendo_switch_6/nswitch_supersmashbrosultimate/NSwitch_SuperSmashBrosUltimate_01.jpg)

And lastly, if I feel like something a bit different, I might play some more Okami HD. I'm about two hours in...so not much has happened yet.

Same God of War.

Also some dad/son game time with Rime. Passing the controller back and forth for the puzzlings, we're having a good time.

Also Sims 4. I'm not quite sure why but I bought the base game last night on the PSN sale. I've not played one since the first Sims on console way back when... Gamecube or PS2 maybe... so long ago. I remember enjoying it, maybe I'm intrigued more than anything to see what a Sims game looks like these days.

More Assassin's Creed II (PC). I am mostly done with side-missions, so I should be able to only focus on the story missions. With a bit of luck, I might be able to finish it!

And also more Persona 5 (PS4).

If I manage to beat ACII early in the weekend I might continue with some Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch).

That’s not healthy! I’ve been there and I completely empathize, but please take care of yourself!

Ill be wrapping up the GOTY write up and, provided I’ve done that, perhaps some light gaming on my laptop, since I’m traveling. Maybe To Be or Not To Be.
And Mario Kart and Just Dance with the kids.
