Hollow Knight

I would love that ability. I know of several places that would be useful.

I did have success today. I think I uncovered 3 new areas and found a certain pass that had eluded me.

That ability is really helpful and opens up a lot of the map. I totally overlooked the place where it’s available at first; I wish I had found it sooner.

Based on the places you’ve already said that you visited, you could find it right now.

Oddly, I only have 1 or 2 major areas left to visit + 1 area I cannot get the map in yet. Smash Bros Ultimate and Subnautica have seriously slowed my progress in this game. I think I'm at 30hrs and anticipate as much as another 15, but hoping (unrealistically) for no more than 10.

Right now I'm struggling a bit with the optional boss in the Deep Nests.

Holy crap this has been confusing. I've been trying to get back to a known area. I explored much of Deepnest and beat the optional boss. I'm just trying to get back to the starting area. I keep exploring and find

Spoiler:

The Mask Maker,

who does absolutely nothing. It was a long trek. Then I went all the way back down and headed left. I made it to

Spoiler:

Distant Village where a bunch of guys grabbed me and put me in The Beast's Den

.. Now I'm wandering around here without a map. Those large tunnel beasts take some time to kill. I just wanted to see if I had enough essence to upgrade my nail again. I think that was what I needed so I could buy the material to do the upgrade. It's been so long I'm not even sure.

Edit: Phew - made it out after

Spoiler:

absorbing a creature with the dream nail.

Well, if it makes you feel any better:

Spoiler:

If the creature you absorbed was THE beast, you would have needed to do that eventually anyway.

I started using a walkthrough because I don't remember why I couldn't go to some places and I got tired of walking back and forth. It looks like I started when maybe I was 75% of the way through.

I'm close, like really close - but I'm also kinda stuck. I need to win the 2nd challenge at the coliseum so I can get

Spoiler:

the final upgrade for my nail.

I think I was close to that because I got to the part where you need to

Spoiler:

stay airborne while you fight

.

I skipped to the next step and am getting pummeled by The Lost Knight, or Failed Knight, I can't remember. According to the walkthrough I am close to getting to the final main encounter. Maybe I could just skip ahead to that, but i'm guessing that is really tough.

I'm happy I made it this far - even if I did cheat for the last little bit. I still had to actually do the stuff. Just not sure if I'm going to make it all the way.

OK, beat the Fallen Knight guy. Going to try again at the coliseum.

How is your downward strike? Gonna be needing that...

Beat challenge 2 of coliseum!

My downward strike is not great. Maybe it's the way I fight, but I can usually get by without using it much. I have the Shadow Cloak so I can dash through enemies. I tend to get close and take some shots, then back off or zip through them.

Didn't touch this for about a month and The White Palace finally did it. It broke my will to continue. Holy crap it is brutal. It just requires more precision and skill than I can muster over the long haul. I watched a walk through of that level and I'm about 2/3s in. This guy who is good took just over 30 minutes to get through the entire level. I must have played this level for several hours to get where I am in the White Palace.

I'm just about ready to get to the White Palace, it will be interesting for sure. This is my second playthrough, the first was not complete by any means. I'm thinking of 107%ing this sucker now.

I still love this game. It's like they opened up my brain and looked up the Perfect Game for Michael file and then made it. So gorgeous and rewarding.

As a whole I do like the game, it's just a bit too much for me. I got a lot of good and sometimes frustrating hours out of it.

It is, but it's also optional. You don't need to do anything in The White Palace to beat the game.

If I have the

3 dreamer souls do I just need to go to the black egg temple?

Yup. You have to get through The White Palace if you want to get the true ending, but not the normal one.

Getting the true ending also involves a very difficult final boss fight, so it might be better to just look it up after if you've been getting frustrated.

I retreated from the White Palace and beat the Hollow Knight. I don't care if it is the worst ending, I finally made it! Percentage was 93% with around 80 hours (yep I'm bad).

As much as I got frustrated I'm happy I played. It is a good game.

Nice job!

I just got my 1800 Essence to get activate the Dream nail, I also went to the stone to get my % complete - currently sitting at 100%. Time to see what all the fuss is about with this White palace.

So, you may or may not believe this, but I don't know why I would make it up. I beat the White Palace first try, without ever dying. Basically:

Spoiler:

Using Grubsong, Deep Focus, Hiveblood, and Dashmaster, there's really almost no way to die if you're patient. Hiveblood is good to heal one damage, the most you'll take from spikes or saws. Grubsong gives you soul every time you're hit, and Deep Focus gives you two shields per charge. So it's almost an infinite combo. I don't think Dashmaster did anything, but I had a charm slot left over and I figured I would need mobility. It probably wasn't necessary. You can keep whacking the floating beetles or dream nail the mumbling dudes to refill your soul.

Overall, that was one of my favorite sections in the game. Platforming is one of my favorite aspects of this title, so it was nice to find a place like that to flex.

Time to go get that 40-charm reward!

Hah, I thought you meant without ever getting hit. That charm combo is exactly what I used, so I never technically died either, but it took me a while to get through. I would have been much more frustrated with The White Palace without it.

Yeah, me too. I've watched some speedrunners mow through that section like it wasn't actually there... but I was slow and steady to get past it.

Lol. You guys.

Now tell me how you did with Path of Pain...

Just let me feel special.

I just didn't have the patience to wait for the health to recharge. I was about 2/3s of the way through before I just couldn't take it anymore. I did have fun getting through some of the early blade areas- I liked mastering some of the maneuvers.

Congrats getting through!

Tears. Lots and lots of tears.

Oh, awesome. I hope it's not too far out.

Well holy crap. The Hornet expansion became a full game.

If you were a backer of the original, you get the new one for free.

And even if you got the original key on PC, you can choose to get the new one on the Switch.

Wow that trailer looks so good. Day one purchase for sure. Pleasantly surprised this became a full sequel.

Wow when is that coming out??
