Random thing you loathe right now.

Vacations that aren't vacations. I've got the stretch between Christmas and new years off. Except every day has been either holiday prep, holiday stuff with wife's family and friends, or kid duty. The last three days, I've had a long stretch of solo dad duty because she's had an appointment or lunch with a friend or something. Sunday is one of her extended family Christmas parties. Tomorrow was supposed to be free, but suddenly we're babysitting her friend's toddler for most of the day. I know she has solo parent duty most days, but man, it'd be nice to have some time.

Adding to the annoyance, my big Christmas present was a PSVR. I've barely gotten any time with it because I can only really use it after everyone else is in bed, and the last week, she's wanted to stay up late watching a movie. So I get an hour or two in after, but it means I don't get enough sleep. Tonight the movie went later than usual, so it's not even worth starting a game. Maybe a vr set was a bad idea with two little kids and an early wake up time.

Flight delays. I planned for this, but it's still annoying.

Got sick on my vacation, still sick couple weeks later. Much better feeling but annoyed the cough is still there. Traveling while sick is awful.

We didn't do it this year, but the last time Christmas was on a Tuesday, we held our Christmas morning on Saturday. All of the prep went into getting ready for the 21st. The idea was to give my wife a holiday weekend about chilling with family and friends instead of just shopping and cleaning. So Friday night was our Christmas Eve, Saturday Christmas morning, and then she had Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to relax before work on Wednesday.

Really wish we had done that again this year.

2019

edit:

2017: dumpster fire.

2018: garbage truck arrives and picks up dumpster anyway, setting itself on fire.

2019: garbage truck engulfed in flames speeds towards garbage dump, intent on completing its mission no matter what the cost.

Will the garbage truck make it? Will the whole garbage dump catch on fire? I guess we'll see! : D

I have no hot water. It’s bath time for the kids.

The two posts above *really* confused me because I thought this was the "2019 Gaming Goals" thread and was trying to figure out which games cheese was throwing into the dumpster fire of 2018 going into 2019 and then wondered how Eleima having no hot water fit into that picture. Wouldn't cold water do well enough to help put out such a fire?

I loathe that I really can't think of anything to loathe at the moment!

First day of work for the year and I've been assigned the worst project our team has ever seen.

Jobsearching. Keeeeeeee-rist.

The experience of putting out 100 applications, knowing that if you're lucky, you'll hear back from 2 companies is just infuriating.

I'd also like to significantly fine any company whose online job application page makes you upload your resume, and then fill out another page with all the information that is ALREADY IN YOUR RESUME.

Some guy shot randomly shot at a family killing a 7 year old and putting her mother in the hospital. Might have been racially motivated. The shooter is said to be a white guy in his 40s driving a red pickup truck. This happen in Texas. The truck was at least caught on camera

Feel your pain. This particular brand of unnecessary sh*t is incredibly frustrating.

I love that HR or recruiters are first contact at all companies and that they have different priorities than people I would work with. Ah the wonderful bliss of being systematized at work (or places that might become work).

Also f*ck you to places that want a homework assignment during the app process.

Been having a really lousy day since about lunch time yesterday, and I hate that I have no one to talk to who wouldn't laugh at me or chide me for even thinking about the thing that's bringing down my mood.

Sorry, NSMike. We're here for you if you want to vent!

Today my loathe is that I can't seem to stay on top of things. I have a clear list of things to do, and I'm making some forward progress, but nothing is actually getting done and checked off the damn list. Like dishes. Why do we have so many dishes? I keep starting the dishes, but not finishing the dishes and there's always more dirty dishes! I think I'm going to just eat out until all the dishes in the house are done.

/Female Doggoes about jobsearching

//less than 48 hours later, gets a callback for an interview

I should piss and moan about this stuff more often.

Might I suggest complaining about the Trump Administration?

Job searching sucks no matter how little time you have to do it. But I hope the interview works out for you!

I'd like to seriously fine any company that receives two of the same resume with different names and only calls back the one with the white-sounding name.

Sigh... the PocketCasts app has sh*t the bed, so I'm looking for a new app now.

First world problems yada yada and all, but it throws me off when a thing you've been using every day for years suddenly stops working the way it used to - for no good reason. If everything were left to some app developers, you'd wake up one morning and all the buttons on your microwave would all be re-arranged.

I use Overcast and am quite happy with it's features.

Yeah, I recently started searching for a new Android podcast app after the one I had on a recent update started automatically downloading new episodes on my data plan despite being told not to automatically download episodes at all and also to only download on wifi in the settings. Nothing more infuriating than paying $15 in data overage fees two months in a row for downloading things I already listened to. And that was the podcast app I paid money for. But hey, it now has a fancy and more needlessly complicated interface that hitches where it didn't before.

It's annoying how so much software manages to fail miserably at the very simple tasks they exist for because the developers (or salespeople controlling the devs or something) are so focused on re-inventing the wheel on every other aspect of it.

I use Downcast - have done for several years now. Never had an issue with it. I believe it has iOS and Android versions

What happened to PocketCasts? It's working fine on my phone.

I've used Podcast Addict for years and never had a problem with it. I actually gave the developer a few bucks to get rid of the ads just because I liked it and used it so much. Free version works great though anyway.

1. They changed swipe behavior on the queue. You can't swipe the now playing show anymore to archive. Now it's dangerous for me while driving.

2. You can't edit podcasts on a list ("filter") from that list. You used to be able to edit a list and tick a check box for every podcast you wanted on that list. Now you have to navigate into each podcast page to add it to a list.

3. This one is by far the worst: auto-cleanup is gone. I have several lists that I only want a limited number of episodes on this list, such as a daily news podcast that gets refreshed every day. Nope, now it has 37 episodes in it.

Weird, are you on iOS or Android? On my Android phone, all that stuff's still present and working like it always has. I'm up to date according to the Play store.

iOS. They had a big update in early December (I think!) to change a lot of the UI. It was more than just a graphics refresh sadly.

Edit: I just checked out screen shots on the Google Play store. Looks like the refresh was only for iOS for now.

I used to use Podcast Addict. Great app. It'd be where I'd turn to again.

(I don't listen to podcasts anymore. They were clipped upon trying to better manage my time. I prefer to read and can do so faster.)

I use Castro and think it's' great.
