Playstation 4 Catch-All

I had to deal with them a few months ago for similar reasons. To re-instate my account they required that I had the last 4 digits of a credit card that had been long since replaced (possibly do to the PSN hack). They also wanted my console ID, that I created my account with, which seems ridiculous for anyone who created it on a PS3. If I didn't have that I had to verify purchases from 5+ years ago with exact dollar amounts. Luckily I had the same email address and was able to dig through old email to find most of the required info. The whole multiple phone call and multi-hour debacle did not inspire confidence.

What a melt in dealing with them clowns JC, the effectiveness of their protocols seem to be up the left.

Hope you get a resolution in the next few days.

Sony seems to be a shambles in the customer service department at times.

Anyone have thoughts on charging docks? I got a PSVR for Christmas, which means I now have two dualshocks and two Move controllers to keep charged. Up til now, I've been making do with a USB cable to the system, but now that I've got four, that's probably not going to cut it.

I know there's a few PSVR stands out there, though the cheaper one I found on Amazon has some reviews mixed in about the thing killing controllers, so that's bad. I could get one stand for the Move controllers, and then either get one for the dualshocks or keep using the USB cable. I also considered just getting a USB charging hub, but I've found the Move controllers seem to be picky about which USB wall adapters they'll charge off of, so I don't know if that'd be guaranteed to work. Anyone have any great ideas?

I've had good luck with Venom brand docks, for both my old 360 and my current PS4 Pro. They have charged multiple controllers reliably with no issues for years.

Other than the original charging dock, the safest thing is probably an unpowered USB hub plugged into the PS4, or reserving both of its ports for the Move controllers and charging the Dual Shock through other means.

I've been using this Nyko Charging Dock for years, it has a small dongle that plugs into the controller and then you just set the controller on top of the dock, so no more plugging and unplugging things. Not sure if It will help you with the move controllers though.

plus 1 on the Nyko dock. It's elegant in its simplicity for charging the controllers.

Yeah, the Nyko one is what I was leaning toward. They do have a dock for Move controllers that joins up with the dualshock one too, so that's nice. I know there used to be a variant of that one (with the dongle) that went across the top of the console, but that doesn't seem to be available now.

I think your talking about this one, looking back at the one I linked, I think I must have even older version of that, as mine is one piece, but that proves to its durability, its been going strong for 3+ years.

Nyko

Hey, yeah, that's what I was looking for. I might hold off on picking one because we're about to get a new cabinet for the TV stuff, and I'm not sure what the arrangement will be like in there yet. I expect the top of the PS4 will be clear, but you never know.

My wife is very excited that we'll be able to hide all the stuff behind doors and drawers. She hates our current open shelf thing, even though I've drastically cut down on how much stuff I have on it. Eliminating the receiver and reducing consoles down to a Switch, PS4 Slim, and Steam Link makes for a way smaller footprint, and it'll be good to get all the game cases and controllers into a drawer. Gonna be honest, I'm kind of looking forward to the new cabinet too. Having two kids running around, it'll be nice to have less stuff available for grabbing, and I'm psyched to get rid of the gate we have in front of the AV rack now.

@JC thanks for the reminder to take my CC information off of these gaming services. There's no need for me to keep it on file, especially since they are frequently targets for and succumb to hackers. Glad there was a resolution.

Well, this is exciting/embarrassing. I had a special playstation anniversary tin thing (game box size but with no game in it.) I took it off the shelf because I needed the room and just out of interest looked inside. There was a voucher there for £20 to spend in the PSN store and another voucher for 12 months Playstation online.

I must have put the box aside for a time and then forgotten those things were in there. Both codes redeemed ok. The tin must have been a good deal for me to buy it in the first place and the sub has gone up £10 in the mean time.

The take away from all this being, of course, if you have a special playstation anniversary tin thing have a look inside it. You never know.

You're welcome. I hadn't heard from them and gave them a call today to get a status. They did agree that it was fraud and forgave the charges. The silliness of the situation is that they sent the notification that all had been forgiven to the original email that they knew was now defunct...

Sony's put up a dev diary for Plague Tale: Innocence, which showcases more of the gameplay and the concepts behind the narrative. It also gave it a release date of May 14th. It looks good! But this is also Focus Home Interactive which typically means jank and bugs.

Hadn’t heard of this one. Judging by the cover art I would have guessed “last of us clone” and passed it by, but since it’s Focus (probably my second favorite publisher, after Devolver) I have it a closer look.

Using bubonic rats as an indirect weapon is an interesting concept, but if the overall game is an extended escort mission then I’ll pass.

So PlayStation USA has finally begun sending out e-mails regarding a player's stats for 2018. I got a share link for the social medias but as I don't know how it works I don't think I'll be dropping it yet.

The highlights of my stats:

Total Games: 21
Total Hours: 465
Total Trophies: 380(?)

Most Active Month: October with 5 games, 83 trophies, and 113 hours

Trophy Breakdown: 1 Platinum (Spider-Man), 15 Gold, 50 Silver, and 314 Bronze

Top Games: 115 hours of Destiny 2, 45 hours of God of War, and 39 hours of Marvel's Spider-Man

Of course some of these hours statistics seem off. The total online hours are 74 with 68 total in Destiny 2, which just does not compute. I can't think of anything else I would have played with online features and there's really not any offline play for Destiny, so... don't know what it's smoking there unless it's specifically determining those hours with party chat.

But yeah, now we "yanks" can go and share our hours of gaming time. I just wish the Nintendo Switch offered a similar system. The WiiU has a robust one, I think? Or was the 3DS the robust activity log? It would be interesting to calculate all together.

Maybe it's counting time spent browsing the store and everything?

I think you're thinking of the 3DS log, that was down to the minute, if I'm remembering correctly.

Actually I forgot about time spent playing Monster Hunter World as well, so that likely accounts for some of the online time that wasn't allocated to Destiny 2. Even so, that's over 30 hours that was technically online that is unaccounted for.

Not that it's important anyway.

I never get these emails from Sony have everyone seems to get. I’d love to see my stats.

Yeah, some of these stats are completely off. It seems to be counting total playtime as total amount of time the system was powered on. I have 0 games played in July and August, but my hour counts for those months are 92 and 86. The PS4 served as our media hub during those months, so Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, etc. must have been adding to that total. Here are my fun stats that are accurate.

Total games: 27
Trophy Breakdown: 256 total. 1 Platinum, 10 Gold, 42 Silver, 203 Bronze.
Top Games: 270 hours of Monster Hunter World, 101 hours of Destiny 2, 40 hours of God of War.

And a particularly noteworthy statistic, amount saved through PS+ discounts (calculated based on PS Plus member and Non-PS Plus member price at time of purchase): $40.59. That's more than I spent on the membership for the year.

Here is mine, it must be counting Vita play time into that as my number 2 hours played game was on Vita.

Total Games: 109
Top Games: Rocket League 118 hours, WRC 4 (vita) 46 hours, Ni No Kuni 2 46 Hours
Total Hours: 841, 98 Online (96 hours were in Rocket League alone)
Trophy Breakdown: 685 Total, 1 Platinum, 45 Gold, 96 Silver, 543 Bronze
Longest Streak/Days Played: Longest was 4 hours with me playing on a playstation device for 296 days out of the year.
Plus Plus Breakdown 71 Free games "downloaded" $123.53 saved. I would say it was worth it to me.

I'm super happy they finally started doing this for NA players. I really find the month to month break down interesting.

Edit: there was a free theme code in my e-mail as well

The Wii U and the 3DS both have activity logs that keep track of your playtime day-by-day, game-by-game down to the minute. The 3DS activity log goes the extra mile and makes it really easy to see your playtime totals by day, week, month, and year, with graphs showing when you played most and what you played, as well as your most frequently played games, longest average session, and so forth. It's really robust, and I'm sad that didn't get carried forward into the Switch or picked up by competitor platforms.

I was in Gamer Tourist mode this year, apparently:

  • 92 games played
  • 1518 hours of gameplay
    • Rocket League (375 hrs)
    • The Crew 2 (119 hrs - my son)
    • God of War (31 hours).
  • 212 trophies, but 158 were bronze.
  • $86.14 saved from PS+ - almost double what I paid for it - sweet

Ah ok cool. I don't have a Wii U so I didn't want to assume how it worked there.

PlayStation's 2018 Year Wrap Up link (I didn't get an email either).

  • 39 games played
  • 1757 hours of gameplay
    • Warframe - 110 hrs
    • Diablo 3 - 61 hrs
    • Conan Exiles - 15 hrs
    • Overwatch (Probably, but I'm just guessing on this one.)
  • 97 Trophies
  • $141.93 saved from PS+, which seems low for all the sales I took part in.
  • 43 free games added (They only list 28 as having been available in 2018 though, lol)

I was a Masterful Adventurer in 2018!

  • 44 games played
  • 540 hours of gameplay over 227 days
    • Fate/Extella the Umbral Star - 70 Hours
    • The Witch and the Hundres Knight 2 - 67 hours
    • 88 hours in VR
  • 675 trophies
    • 12 platinum
    • 75 gold

13 games played
453 hours (Ps4 is primary video streaming device)
Ni No Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom - 46 hours
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate - 35 hours
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 - 34 hours
125 trophies earned (4 gold, 17 silver, 104 bronze)

20 games played
Monster Hunter World: 94 Hours
God of War: 56 Hours
MGSV: The Phantom Pain: 21 Hours
364 Hours of Gameplay
11 consecutive hours(?!?)
107 Days played
201 Trophies (2 plat, 8 gold, 42 silver, 149 bronze)

Did they remove the 'rarest achievement' stat, after it turned out you could calculate games sold based on it :/

39 games played
228 hours
Top games were Final Fantasy 12 (45 hours) and Ni No Kuni 1 (39 hours).

I'm not surprised that there were a few months where I played just 3 or 4 hours of games and one month where I don't seem to have used the console at all. It was an off year for my PS4.
