NCAA College Football 2018-19: Official Thread

Apropos of nothing, I'd like to remind everyone that Syracuse has nine wins so far this year.

That is all.

What Army is doing to Houston is literally pornographic.

I was just checking scores and came across this. Oof.

This is the Army team that gave OU all they wanted this year.

(Brett Bielema voice:) Borderline erotic...

Man, tough call on who to cheer for today: Cal for Carl, as I usually do, or TCU for my TCU peeps, who are really good Texan friends.

...I think I'm gonna have to go with TCU! The scars of Cal beating A&M down at a Holiday Bowl I traveled to are still with me! Go Frogs!

Fun fact: One "gigs" frogs, which is one of the two possible origins of "Gig 'Em!"

Well I just blew a plane ticket and hotel in Phoenix, tickets to the game and 4 hours of my life in one of the most embarrassing displays of football I have ever witnessed.

Cal D gave up 25 yards passing, had 4 interceptions, and lost.

At least your game wasn't cancelled.

Shows how meaningless bowls are when they just give up and don't finish one.

I am sorry you had to experience that. Speaking as a neutral observer, however, that was amazing from a "here is a trainwreck that somehow only gets worse" perspective. TCU managed to win the game with a quarterback that literally did not have full use of one of his feet.

It was monumentally hideous, and I look forward to a 30 for 30 on it in the future.

Also, Mark Richt is a good man, but I think it's becoming increasingly clear that he is not, and arguably never was a top-level coach.

Bowl cancellation could cost Boise State more than $25K

F*ck your blue turf.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Guess who's back?
Not da U!

Congrats Wisconsin. With FSU being historically bad, I shall get my bowl satisfaction from schadenfreude.

Up next... Let's go Wolverines!

I'm having trouble drumming up any enthusiasm for the Florida game.

Michigan is 4-0 all time vs Florida, dating back to 2003.

If we beat them again, then yay?

If we lose to them, then oh well.

It just doesn't seem to mean much either way after losing to Ohio State. (Yet again.)

Holy crap, Purdue is down 49 points at the HALFTIME! What the heck is going on?

Jeff Brohm wishing he'd taken the Louisville job.

Auburn thought it would be cool to just kill Tyler now, I guess.

Oh man, that Cheez-It Bowl write-up Pred linked was amazing. Probably more entertaining to experience the game that way than to actually view it.

TEN WINS! TEN!

SYRA-DING-DANG-CUSE WON TEN FREAKING GAMES!

...the kicker for Iowa State's last name is Assalley.

Mike Leach.

PAC 12 WON A BOWL GAME!

I kind of support athletes who choose to skip the bowl game because of realistic NFL expectations, even though AFAIK no Aggie has yet done it, but it rubs me very wrong that West Virginia's QB Will Grier skipped it. I suppose there's no difference between him doing it and UGA's CB, but it feels different with a QB.

Grats to Syracuse for soundly beating West Virginia.

I absolutely support a player who has a shot to go pro deciding to skip any bowl outside of the playoffs. The players have done their part, no sense in risking their shot at getting paid.

I probably would NOT have felt this way as recently as 5 years ago, but my attitude has shifted considerably in favor of the "student" athletes.

Why does it feel different? Every bit as much if not more risk to a QB, who is the target of several very big men every play while often being in an self defenseless body position, where a CB is generally in less risk on a play by play basis.

I love for guys to want to play for the team, and if they don't, you kind of wonder how focused on team goals they'll be even as pros. However, I understand that's easy to say for me who doesn't have millions at risk.

I'm still forever grateful that Peyton Manning came back for his senior season, when he really had no need to from a career perspective. But the players don't owe it to the fans like me.

This is just another reason college football mostly sucks, and the NFL needs their own farm system. I'd rather NFL bound players just enter the NFL and their farm system than dorking around in college for two years just because the system made that their best option. Because, once they have established their draft grade, it's also in their best interest to just sit out.

Let the stars go to the NFL, giving more players that need the scholarship for, you know, education, the opportunity. Plus it gives borderline talent more chances to play and prove themselves over 4 years.

It feels different because the QB is usually considered the leader of the team. A leader, at the very least. Any other position has less expectation of leadership.

Like I said, I pretty much support them. I said "I suppose there's no difference". I'm taking about muh feelin's here.

Ooh, is it "NFL needs a minor league" discussion time? My favorite topic!

Pretty much. I didn't realize it was CFP day until I woke up this morning and looked at my phone. I think we can move on.

That game nearly made me fall asleep.

ND had no business there. Vandy almost beat them goodness sake.

Condolences of the day go to badferret, whose team was robbed.

I like you, grinder. Stick around.

They were never going to put us in over ND.

Now if OU get's blown out....

Then Georgia can claim their third What If National Title in seven years.
