Talk about analysis paralysis...
Do we know where Freehold is on that map?
I would guess it is the biggest island which looks to me like the island middle left.
It would also make sense to maximize exploration by not having it dead center.
The funny thing is if that is Freehold, then the saying "Go West young man." becomes "Go East young pirate."
PCgamer got some hands on experience. Pretty good article.

"Studio Wildcard is also working on a tarot card-based magic system, and land ownership will be expanded so players can even establish specific laws that have to be followed while in their territory. The idea is that, one day, players will log into Atlas and find a populated and lively world driven entirely by the whims of its players."
I'm envisioning owning/building a resort style island where clothing is optional/prohibited, drinks are free, and there is much frivolity going on.
I'm pretty excited for this. I did enjoy Ark for all its flaws. I'm a bit concerned about the structure though. I can see it working on the PvP server, but I can't play these games PvP anymore. Protecting what you own in a Rust-like game is a full time job, and that's just more than I'm willing to put in. But I'm worried that in the PvE server everything will just get claimed and sat on, forever. A private server is a solution to this, but as others have said, the map seems way too large. I'm just speculating though, hopefully I'm wrong.
In looking at the map a little closer, I see that they are using some of the same island designs over and over. I noticed when one caught my eye that is kind of a larger square island with lots of forest and one side has a circular cutout for a bay. There's another group of 4 circular islands with all vegetation in a large square shape used multiple times.
I'm thinking an island with a narrow channel cut in that would provide protection from land on 2-3 sides into a port would be good.

The seabed is tiled as well. Which is interesting in that there is a seabed and its tiled 4 times. And also, I wonder if this is like Asteroids where if you go off the map in any direction, you appear on the opposite side.

I think you might be right Fangblackbone.
Also, this video has some interesting theories on the map and treasure hunting. Sounds like Sea of Thieves.
Do we have a time for tomorrow yet?
They are still saying being released today but no timeline yet. They are supposedly slow releasing some keys to streamers but I've been watching Twitch and haven't seen anything pop up yet.
Well, at this point I'll probably just wait until after Christmas now to get it.
Hell, I'll just wait till after new years and reduce their year-end bottom line by my $30.00! A-HOLES! lol.
So seems like there's been some work done on the map that seems legit.
I'm linking the youtube video instead of embedding it if folks want to not be spoilered.
My question though, since it seems we have time now, is what type of biome are folks wanting to start in?
Desert, Artic/Tundra, Tropical, Equatorial, Temperate.
My vote is Tropical followed by Equatorial.
I would think Temperate or Equatorial.
You don't want to make ice hotels?
Saw one streamer (while waiting for the game to go live) looking at this site. Might be useful once the game launches.

I'm good with tropical. Are we joining the stock pve server? I'm out today with family stuff, but hopefully Sunday evening. I will live for your post updates.
One streamer got as far as the menu, settings etc. Basically looks like the ark menu with a pirate Font :D
I think that is all it is going to be. A reboot of Ark in Pirate clothing. Watching some of the videos you can tell the ships have the same janky movements as Ark boats now. I'll probably still buy it as I love Ark, even with all of its flaws. The PvP will probably be very similar to Ark today though, which if it is, will suck.
Pathfinders, our official test servers are now undergoing maintenance. ATLAS is currently being pushed through to the Steam Store as an Early Access title and should be purchasable by 12:15 PM. It takes a bit of time to get through the system ;). Downloads can begin shortly!
Couple of us are in Discord now hanging out.
I'm slowly working through purchasing the game... getting errors at every step. Has anyone successfully bought it yet?
It is in my library and I have an install button, but it tells me that the purchase is still processing when I click it.
Bloody hell, Steam is claiming the download is nearly 96GB. Thankfully once the download started it is only downloading 32GB.
The UI and font are as ugly as Ark. That's enough to make me pass on it alone.
